It has been found that the moire patterns are strongly influenced by the shape of an electron beam profile. By using the evaluation technique, optimum electron beam profiles for various moire modes are pursued. Although the common belief is that the Gaussian current density distribution is the best for the beam profile which gives least moire fringes, it is found that an introduction of a small deviation to the Gaussian distribution reduces the moire contrast to an appreciable extent. This enables us to design CRT electron guns which have an improved moire characteristic.","PeriodicalId":170859,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 5th Asian Symposium on Information Display. The results show that the coaxial-type structure gives the best focusing effect but with lowest anode current. The ridge-type structure could give the largest anode current but its focusing effect is poor. The coplanar-type structure, in addition to its good focusing effect, has a moderate anode current and the simplest fabrication process. It is concluded that the coplanar-type focusing structure is the best choice for display application.","PeriodicalId":170859,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 5th Asian Symposium on Information Display. Now, because its applications and product functions have changed, the HMD is gradually changing from laboratory equipment to a consumer-electronic product. In the future, the applications of business and consumer purposes will bring further potential profits. In its commercialized product design process, the characteristics of end-user and markets must be considered. In this research, the human engineering, image scale, product design methodologies and theories will assist the commercialized product design of HMD. Our purpose is to propose investigation of methodologies and techniques of HMD product for its commercialized process. These methodologies and techniques can assist the manufacturer to set up their product design principles and strategies for HMD design.","PeriodicalId":170859,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 5th Asian Symposium on Information Display. There are many multiple camera vision systems used for the ITC process, with mixed results. The key problem is that single camera is dedicated to a single measurement point. In this paper, a new method of measuring geometry attributes, convergence, and purity of CRT using a single high resolution camera is reported. Critical innovations in subpixel imaging processing allows the camera to report up to 165 data points simultaneously. An advanced perspective correction algorithm made camera to CRT position non-critical. Wobble coils placed at the neck of the CRT enables high accuracy purity measurement without magnetizing the CRT. A high speed hardware platform allows near real time measurement, fast enough for interactive adjustment. Significant work on integrating the measurement report system results in a streamlined user-friendly production measurement system that can significantly shorten production time while sustaining a high quality standard.","PeriodicalId":170859,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 5th Asian Symposium on Information Display. The guest-host LCDs use the absorption anisotropy effect of dichroic dyes and have a wide viewing angle cone. The GH-LCD does not need complicated designs of optical compensation in birefringence or optical rotatory power modes. One of the applications of GH-LCDs is a black and white display which works as a light shutter of a full color reflective display with micro-color filters. It is necessary to mix dyes for an achromatic display. The Newton-Raphson method is useful for the calculation of optimum dye concentrations in order to display the designed color. In this work, the judgement of the calculated results is discussed. As a result, the calculated result with Newton-Raphson method is quickly and easily evaluated. The process gives us a helpful guideline in the fabrication of the reflective color LCDs and it is expected that the precise color matching improves the quality of LCDs.","PeriodicalId":170859,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 5th Asian Symposium on Information Display. Following formation, the grating is irradiated by a single Ar/sup +/ laser beam while probed by a He-Ne laser. Experimental results indicate that the first-order diffracted intensity of the probe beam significantly increases. Such an optically switchable diffraction effect is attributed to thermal expansion. The G-206 dye absorbs Ar/sup +/ laser, subsequently resulting in thermal expansion. The liquid crystal (LC) droplets are then squeezed so that the LC molecules within the droplets are reoriented collectively. Thus, the refractive index difference between the LC-rich and polymer-rich stripes, /spl Delta/n, increases.","PeriodicalId":170859,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 5th Asian Symposium on Information Display.
