It increases the efficiency of the DQDB protocol by improving the utilization of the bus bandwidth in DQDB networks. The proposed protocol is particularly well-suited for the case when information transfer between neighboring nodes is more likely than that between remote nodes. Simulation was used to study the throughput performance and it was demonstrated that the maximum throughput offered by the SP-DQDB protocol may be many times greater than that of the DQDB in different environments.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":170618,"journal":{"name":"[Conference Record] SUPERCOMM/ICC '92 Discovering a New World of Communications","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128356183","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A measurement-based call admission control approach is proposed. It is based on measurements of the network loading over a period that is long enough to reflect multiplexed traffic behavior. A heuristic call admission rule based on periodic measurement of line utilization is formulated. The admission rule can keep the cell loss ratio below certain level for a given set of control parameters. The cell loss ratio depends on the sample period of network loading measurement. The performance of the admission rule was evaluated by simulation and the results are presented.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":170618,"journal":{"name":"[Conference Record] SUPERCOMM/ICC '92 Discovering a New World of Communications","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128631926","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experimental and theoretical results are given. The PLL synthesizer proposed is composed entirely of digital signal processors except for a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO). The VCO control signal is derived by the subtraction of the linear reference phase and the feedback phase. Therefore, it does not need the bandlimited loop filter which limits the ability of the loop to switch rapidly. The experimental results show that it can provide a switching time as short as 0.1 ms, which is 10/sup 2/-10/sup 3/ times higher than conventional PLL synthesizers, and spurs of less than -65 dBc/Hz.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":170618,"journal":{"name":"[Conference Record] SUPERCOMM/ICC '92 Discovering a New World of Communications","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129323445","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Demonstrated aggregate bit rates for electrically time division multiplexed (ETDM), optically time division multiplexed (OTDM), and wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) laboratory lightwave systems are shown. ETDM systems place the most severe demands on electronic and optoelectronic components, but the simplicity and economy of such systems continue to make them attractive. The ETDM system is a building block for OTDM and WDM systems. The potential and limitations of present system components are examined, and the promise of new technologies is explored. The PCS functional model consists of four functional groupings: user terminal functions, channel management functions, call management functions and data management functions. The analysis considers call-related flows, identifying the activities that must be performed by each of the functional groupings and the relationships between groupings. The mobility of terminals, of people, and of services is addressed. Scalability, extensibility, alternative functional partitioning, and tradeoffs between customer equipment and network intelligence are discussed. The results of this analysis identify the effects of personal communications services on the functionality and requirements for wireless and local exchange networks.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":170618,"journal":{"name":"[Conference Record] SUPERCOMM/ICC '92 Discovering a New World of Communications","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130525190","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This technique is a noncoherent demodulation which utilizes a limiter-discriminator-integrator (LDI) followed by a nonlinear postprocessor to combat the intersymbol interference caused by a bandlimiting filter. The error rate performance is computed for this receiver and compared with that of the LDI receiver. The proposed system was simulated and the bit error rate (BER) performances of 2, 4, and 8-ary CPFSK schemes were obtained. The proposed technique provides improved BER performances for narrowband digital FM. Simulation results have verified the superiority of this method.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":170618,"journal":{"name":"[Conference Record] SUPERCOMM/ICC '92 Discovering a New World of Communications","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123670021","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experimental arrangement is described. The weather was drier than usual, and fewer events were observed than expected. Typical events for Olympus show attenuation of the horizontally received signal, which was at 19.77373 GHz. The equipment was carefully calibrated during clear weather. Several fade events observed are described. The disappearance of Olympus from the end of May 1991 until its recovery in mid-August 1991 was a setbacks; however, observing another satellite helped in utilizing the equipment effectively to measure attenuation at 20 GHz. The maximum fade rate observed so far was 1.5 dB/s.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":170618,"journal":{"name":"[Conference Record] SUPERCOMM/ICC '92 Discovering a New World of Communications","volume":" 12","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113946194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, they consider network partitionings caused only by independent communication link failures. An algorithm that orders network partitioning in decreasing order of probability is proposed. This algorithm is similar to the most probable state enumeration (MPSE) algorithm proposed by V.O.K. Li and J.A. Silvester (1984). By looking at only the most probable partitionings, a good estimate of the performance of the network can be obtained. This approach also gives bounds on the network performance. Some replicated distributed database performance parameters like availability are also computed.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":170618,"journal":{"name":"[Conference Record] SUPERCOMM/ICC '92 Discovering a New World of Communications","volume":"506 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127598859","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In every node of a communications network, neural networks are installed to simulate the traffic in the communications network and to determine the optimum output link. A neural unit in the simulator has delay circuits that correspond to the buffer memories in a communications network node. Since the simulator was implemented using analog hardware and operated in a parallel processing manner, this scheme is suitable for high-speed routing.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":170618,"journal":{"name":"[Conference Record] SUPERCOMM/ICC '92 Discovering a New World of Communications","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126477069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
