The common-header/transmitter-based spreading code is used for data packet transmission and the receiver-based code is used for acknowledgement packet transmission. By staggering packet transmission the protocol can significantly reduce broadcasting delay. A special addressing method and packet format are also proposed to achieve collision-free acknowledgement and multicast capability. The simulation result shows that the protocol provides better throughput-delay performance than the common-header/transmitter-based slotted ALOHA protocol.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":170618,"journal":{"name":"[Conference Record] SUPERCOMM/ICC '92 Discovering a New World of Communications","volume":"349 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115894742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Results indicate that the subcarrier multiplexed/WDM architecture is the most promising architecture for implementation. Three dedicated 1:1 optical diversity path protection and equipment protection schemes using mechanical optical switches are proposed for survivable operation. The improvement in system reliability and the implementation cost are determined. The proposed protection schemes are not unique to the candidate architecture chosen and could be used for any other architecture, with a few modifications.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":170618,"journal":{"name":"[Conference Record] SUPERCOMM/ICC '92 Discovering a New World of Communications","volume":"6 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-06-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132455361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors derive the expressions for the mean queueing delay and resequencing delay for the M/M/n queueing system shared by C different message classes. A numerical calculation is carried out for the queueing system with two servers. For the case of rectangular frequency pulses with L=1 (that is, M-ary continuous phase frequency shift keying (CPFSK) or M-ary 1REC CPM), an analytical expression is known for the PSD when the data symbols are equally likely. An analytic expression is obtained for the PSD of an M-ary LREC CPM signal where L is an arbitrary positive integer and the data symbols are not necessarily equally likely. The technique employed does not require the tedious evaluation of integrals. Rather, the integrals are recognized as convolutions and the PSD is obtained using simple Fourier transform properties.
