The project of the building was done by the architect Svetozar Jovanović, and the pedimental sculpture in the gable of the building was done by the academic sculptor Živojin Lukić. The building housed two institutes: the Institute of Physiology and the Institute of Histology. Each of the institutes owned one wing, and they shared the central part of the building, which also contained an amphitheater. The building was equipped with the most modern technical devices and provided excellent conditions for scientific work and teaching. In addition, within the Institute of Histology there were the Photography Department, the Terminology Department, the central catalog of the books and journals of the Faculty of Medicine, and a museum was planned as well The largest part of the building was destroyed in the German bombing on April 6, 1941. After liberation, according to the project of the architect Milan Sekulić, the reconstruction of the central part and the construction of new wings of the building were carried out.","PeriodicalId":167411,"journal":{"name":"Medicinska istrazivanja","volume":"107 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120909046","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All gatherings indoors (sport, cultural and other events), as well as in parks and public places intended for recreation and sports, were prohibited. Shortly after, a lockdown took place which prohibited leaving home with the exception of basic needs, work from home was recommended and online schooling was introduced. The World Health Organization has recommended the use of online resources to maintain basic physical activity. In these circumstances of social distancing, this study examines the prevalence of physical activity supported by social networks and mobile applications during the COVID-19 lockdown in Serbia. The study was conducted as a cross-sectional study, using questionnaire distributed through social networks. The study found that more than a third of respondents (38.3%) used social networks or mobile apps to perform physical activity during the lockdown in Serbia; 27.1% used social networks/mobile apps before the pandemic, while 11.2% began to use social networks/mobile apps to perform physical activity during the lockdown. Easy access and review of exercises were the most common reasons for using social networks/mobile apps. 40% of the participants in the study agreed that social networks/mobile apps, make it easier to engage in physical activity. Based on the presented results, it can be concluded that the promotion of physical activity at home through social networks and mobile apps can provide an invaluable contribution to maintaining physical activity globally during pandemics such as COVID-19.","PeriodicalId":167411,"journal":{"name":"Medicinska istrazivanja","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122015970","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although the basic principles of radiotherapy in children are the same as in adults, it has its own specificity because it is applied to an organism in the phase of growth and development. Also, pediatric tumors differ from tumors in adults, so pediatric radiation oncologist has to have knowledge of pediatric oncology. Treatment of children with malignant diseases requires coordinated work of a multidisciplinary team: radiation oncologist, pediatrician, various specialty surgeons, pathologists, each of whom participates in the decision making on combined oncological treatment. Treatment decisions are necessary made in a multidisciplinary environment with the necessary knowledge of all members of the pediatric oncology team. Pediatric radiation oncology has its specifics and requirements in terms of infrastructure and organization. The basic requirements apply to rooms, equipment, staff, and procedures. Based on the international recommendations, the necessary radiotherapy equipment and its number, for the work with children, is defined. In the treatment of children it is recommended to use 3D conformal radiotherapy, or other advanced techniques, in order to avoid the irradiation of healthy tissues as much as possible. Monitoring early and late unwanted effects of radiotherapy is of great importance in treating children with malignant tumors. Also, a certain level of knowledge in the pathology of malignant diseases of children is necessary of all the members of radiotherapy team. Pediatric radiotherapy, as an extremely sophisticated and complex method of treatment, can therefore only be performed in hospitals and centers that can meet all of the above high standards and recommendations with the coordinated work of a multidisciplinary team with experience in pediatric oncology.","PeriodicalId":167411,"journal":{"name":"Medicinska istrazivanja","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127100702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of metabolic parameters on LDL and HDL size and subclasses in adolescents with type 1 diabetes. The cross-sectional study included 43 adolescents (23 females, 20 males) with type 1 diabetes of mean age 15.09±1.94 years, with mean disease duration of 5.86 ± 3.08 years. LDL and HDL particles were separated by polyacrylamide gradient gel electrophoresis, while serum lipid parameters were determined by routine laboratory methods. Patients with inadequate metabolic control (HbA1c ≥ 7.5%) had a higher mean value of triglycerides (TG) (p = 0.041), higher proportions of small, dense LDL particles (p = 0.045), higher proportions of LDL IIA subclasses (p=0.03) and smaller LDL diameter (p = 0.02) and HDL diameter (p = 0.04) than patients with optimal metabolic control (HbA1c < 7.5%). Higher HbA1c and higher TG levels were statistically significantly related to small, dense LDL (r=0.341, p=0.025; r= 0.394, p= 0.009) and HDL particles (r=0.684, p=0.000; r=0.421, p=0.005). Predictors of small, dense LDL and HDL particles, which contribute to atherogenesis, were high HbA1c (HR = 1.52, 95% CI: 0.97-2.40; HR 3.87, 95% CI: 2.11-7.10) and elevated TG (HR= 1.10, 95% CI: 1.00-1.20; HR 1.85, 95% CI: 1.07-3.21). Diabetic adolescents require particular attention in order to minimize factors such as high HbA1c and elevated TGs in the development of future cardiovascular events.","PeriodicalId":167411,"journal":{"name":"Medicinska istrazivanja","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125147514","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite different data about its efficacy, it is evident that BCG protects infants from disseminated and meningeal TB (there is a decreasing trend of such cases over the past six decades in Serbia) and TB - related death. Serbia is an intermediate-to-low TB incidence country in socio-economic transition. Its current epidemiologic situation when it comes to TB shows a slightly decreasing overall trend of TB, a constant decreasing time trend of childhood TB as well as a dramatically increasing trend of TB in the elderly. Some forms of extra - pulmonary TB are on the increase as well. At the beginning of the 21st century, BCG is a useful resource for individual protection in particular situations where the spread of TB infection and disease and the limited application of preventive measures cannot provide an objective control of TB.","PeriodicalId":167411,"journal":{"name":"Medicinska istrazivanja","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127028165","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Neuroblastoma in solid organs other than the sympathetic nervous system is extremely rare. The most common site of neuroblastoma is the adrenal medulla. Liver neuroblastomas are usually metastatic lesions, particularly from stage 4S adrenal neuroblastoma. Patient review. We report the first case of primary hepatic high-risk neuroblastoma diagnosed in a child older than 12 months. The patient received multimodal oncology treatment, including chemotherapy, surgery, bone marrow transplantation, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy, as well as deep regional hyperthermia. Despite the timely diagnosis, the tumor was refractory to intensive treatment, and the patient died 2.5 years after the diagnosis. Conclusion. The differential diagnosis of primary malignant liver tumors in pediatric patients should include neuro-blastoma, especially in tumors with atypical clinical presentation. The reports of similar cases in the future may contribute to better tumor biology understanding and facilitate clinical management.","PeriodicalId":167411,"journal":{"name":"Medicinska istrazivanja","volume":"209 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130390116","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its regulation is based up on appetite control and one of the important factors in that system is leptin, a peptide hormone primarily synthesized in the adipose tissue. Leptin levels, besides the amount of fat tissue in the body, depend on: food intake, sex, age, physical activity and glucose up-take. In addition, leptin secretion displays circadian rhythm. The effects of this hormone are mediated via leptin receptors, which are distributed in the central nervous system and several other tissues. Activation of the receptors initiates a cascade of several signaling pathways, of which JAK2/STAT3 is the most important pathway in the process of feeding regulation and energy homeostasis. Leptin controls energy balance and body weight by activating leptin receptors in the hypothalamus, and the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus is the main site of its action. Within that nucleus, leptin stimulates the activity of anorexigenic POMC/CART neurons and inhibits the activity of orexigenic AgRP/NPY neurons. In addition, leptin regulates the expression of (an)orexigenic neuropeptides in the ventromedial, paraventricular nucleus and in the lateral hypothalamus. Bearing these facts in mind, studies that were conducted have shown that leptin may have its place in the treatment of obesity, since its application leads to a significant reduction in body weight in animals and in people with a deficit of this hormone. This has led to the development of clinically appropriate product leptin, which has entered the third phase of clinical trial.","PeriodicalId":167411,"journal":{"name":"Medicinska istrazivanja","volume":"251 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132530317","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These metabolic COM-plications increase the risk of cardiovascular disease (coronary disease, acute myocardial infarction) and cerebrovascular disease, increasing morbidity and mortality in this population. Metabolic syndrome is the consequence of the dynamic relationship between HIV virus and a host, which is influenced by the viral characteristics, genetic factors of a host, environ-mental factors, and the HAART. The potential to induce metabolic syndrome varies among antiretroviral drugs from of the same class, as well as between different classes of drugs. The development of algorithms for the screening, prediction, prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease is the new challenge for the doctors and requires new studies in this area.","PeriodicalId":167411,"journal":{"name":"Medicinska istrazivanja","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132900847","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is, almost, well known fact that panic disorder is common comorbid condition in various somatic diseases, including pulmonary diseases. The importance of this comorbidity is related on impact on the functioning, the questions of primary diagnosis, etiological relationship, therapeutic implications etc. The prevalence of panic disorder is 3 times higher in patients with COPD and vice versa. The etiological considerations of panic disorder include, among the others, respiratory hypothesis and hyperventilation as the possible cause factors. The problem is, also, that symptoms of panic and COPD overlap, which could complicate diagnostic process. Therefore, the duty of somatic doctors is to recognize the symptoms of panic disorder in their patients, to reduce their anxiety and to refer them to psychiatric treatment if it is indicated.","PeriodicalId":167411,"journal":{"name":"Medicinska istrazivanja","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114945695","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First of all, it is the approach to elderly patients, whose primary target is not a particular disease or the treatment of a system of organs, but the treatment of the entire person. If our interdisciplinary team's knowledge and efforts do result in healing an elderly person, we do not consider ourselves successful unless there is a complete recovery or, in other words, unless the elderly patient is back on their feet. The modern approach to geriatric patients is based on 50 - year experience in clinical work with elderly patients, as well as on fundamental science, but it also applies current trends in the treatment of common diseases (e.g. the final stage of renal disease, arterial hypertension, diabetes). Finally, the approach is completed with specificities in treating elderly patients - i.e. focus on iatrogenesis and the application of geriatric assessment in everyday geriatric practice.","PeriodicalId":167411,"journal":{"name":"Medicinska istrazivanja","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115072625","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
