It is, almost, well known fact that panic disorder is common comorbid condition in various somatic diseases, including pulmonary diseases. The importance of this comorbidity is related on impact on the functioning, the questions of primary diagnosis, etiological relationship, therapeutic implications etc. The prevalence of panic disorder is 3 times higher in patients with COPD and vice versa. The etiological considerations of panic disorder include, among the others, respiratory hypothesis and hyperventilation as the possible cause factors. The problem is, also, that symptoms of panic and COPD overlap, which could complicate diagnostic process.
