Connecting a computer over the Internet could realize a distant control system to monitor and control those appliances. This system could also attract students to study the system furthermore. This paper proposed a system, which could be used as a teaching media to introduce a simple distant control system. The systems should be evaluated in both of system working and users' responds when it is used as a teaching media. The results showed that even the speed of uploading and downloading was low, the system still can be updated the current situations. Furthermore, the prototype of web-based home controlling was suitable for a teaching trainer considering the validation result of material and media experts, and also implementation in a real class.","PeriodicalId":166275,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Region 10 Symposium (TENSYMP)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128088458","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The performance degradation of LTE TDD system due to the CTI is evaluated in terms of throughput and bit error rate (BER). This paper simulates and evaluates two mitigation scenarios. Simulation results show that system performance degrades significantly due to the CTI. The first mitigation scenario shows that by using additional guardband, the throughput degradation can be reduced. The second mitigation scenario shows that the degradation can be also reduced by increasing the isolation distance between affected user equipment (UE) and its strongest interferer.","PeriodicalId":166275,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Region 10 Symposium (TENSYMP)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124965125","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Humans tend to move in a way that is influenced by their social relations. Knowledge of social relationships therefore can be exploited to build social-aware routing protocols. These algorithms typically favour higher (social) ranking nodes as better relays for message transfers. The combination of this forwarding heuristic and the social network structure, which exhibits a non-uniform connectivity distribution with the existence of a few highly-connected nodes, leads the routing algorithm to direct most of the traffic through these hub nodes. Unbalanced traffic distribution therefore results in the network. This paper presents an analysis of traffic distribution in SONs when social-aware routing protocols are applied in the networks. Initially, we survey state-of-the-art social-aware routing protocols. We next investigate the topology characteristics of real-life SONs. Furthermore, we apply three forwarding strategies on these networks, categorising these strategies into social-aware forwarding and social-oblivious forwarding. The social-aware forwarding strategies consider node ranking when choosing traffic relays and the node ranking here is measured by degree and betweeness centralities. The social-oblivious forwarding, however, disregards node ranking on the forwarding decision and selects a relay node randomly. We show that the social-aware forwarding strategies result in very poor traffic distribution fairness, where a few (hub) nodes process a large fraction of the network traffic. Finally, we discuss the strategies for improving traffic distribution fairness in SONs.","PeriodicalId":166275,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Region 10 Symposium (TENSYMP)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121886947","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research aims to develop a method that can be used to perform iris identification using four hundred and twenty iris images from CASIA-v4-Syn (non-ideal iris) along with three hundred and seventy eight iris images from CASIA-v1 (ideal iris). The basic principle of the proposed method as follows: firstly, design the preprocess using amoeba median filter and Gaussian filter in order to enhance the effective area of the iris. Secondly, using modified CHT method, the iris area is segmented to separate the iris from the pupil. Subsequently, the selection process of ROI by applying homogeneous rubber sheet model to extract the intersection of internal and lower region from the segmented iris will consequently transform it to a rectangular shape which will be used for features extraction. The characteristic features namely maximum probability, correlation, contrast, energy, homogeneity, and entropy are then extracted using multiple 3D-GLCM; which is the advanced version of 2D GLCM. Finally, these features are trained using Elman Recurrent Neural Network/Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm to obtain the accuracy. Studies have shown that the recognition rates of this method can reach CRR of 91% using CASIA-Iris-Syn v4 and CRR of 94.22% using CASIA-Iris-Syn v1 which can meet the demand of iris recognition.","PeriodicalId":166275,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Region 10 Symposium (TENSYMP)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123562159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
