The three control techniques are implemented using PWM voltage modulation. The comparison is based on various criteria including: the motor dynamic performance, the speed and torque ripples, the ac current harmonic content, the control algorithm implementation complexity, the ZSI performance and the overall system efficiency. The study is done by MATLAB simulation of a 15 kW induction motor fed by a high performance Z-source inverter. The simulation results indicates that, the IFOC seems to be the best control techniques suitable for controlling an induction motor fed by a ZSI for automotive applications. In addition, this paper proves that, all control methods used for the voltage source inverter (VSI) can be applied for the ZSI and gaining its advantages.","PeriodicalId":166144,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121479969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An on-line Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) is applied to estimate motor position and angular speed by measuring motor voltages and currents. In order to achieve desirable dynamic and robustness motor performance, Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used to tune coefficients of PI controller. This algorithm arranged these coefficients with considering importance of three factors in speed response: overshoot, steady state error and rise time. For investigation, entire system drive including EKF, Vector control, SV-PWM and AFPM motor are simulated in MATLAB/SIMULINK After that, the control system is executed on the TMS320F2812 controller platform.","PeriodicalId":166144,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives","volume":"24 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116632270","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These batteries would be charged from the power grid at home or at work and would thus allow for a reduction in the overall fuel consumption. This paper proposes an integrated power electronics interface for PHEVs, which consists of a novel Eight-Switch Inverter (ESI) and an interleaved DC/DC converter, in order to reduce the cost, the mass and the size of the power electronics unit (PEU) with high performance at any operating mode. In the proposed configuration, the Eight-Switch Inverter (ESI) is able to function as a bidirectional single-phase AC/DC battery charger/ vehicle to grid (V2G) and to transfer electrical energy between the DC-link and the electric traction system as DC/AC inverter. In addition, a bidirectional-interleaved DC/DC converter and its control are proposed for interfacing the ESI to a low-voltage battery pack in order to minimize the ripple of the battery current and to improve the efficiency of the DC system with lower inductor size. To validate the performance of the proposed configuration, the indirect field-oriented control (IFOC) based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed to optimize the efficiency of the AC drive system in PHEVs and compared with the IFOC. Moreover, an improved AC/DC controller based Proportional-Resonant Control (PRC) is proposed in order to reduce the THD of the input current in charger/V2G modes. The proposed configuration is analyzed and its performance is validated using simulated results obtained in MATLAB/ SIMULINK. Furthermore, the experimental setup of the integrated system is under progress.","PeriodicalId":166144,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116928543","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A major criticality of such machines is the occurrence of large air-gap field harmonics due to winding distribution and to slotting effects. Predicting such harmonics analytically with adequate accuracy is a good way to significantly speed-up subsequent investigations concerning the rotor effects of the field harmonics in terms of rotor losses. This paper proposes different analytical formulations for this purpose, covering the case of a generic number of stator phases and differing by how slotting effects are taken into account. The various approaches proposed are evaluated by comparing analytical results with FE analysis computations on a sample machine geometries.","PeriodicalId":166144,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives","volume":"196 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115675310","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, the effect of various phase excitation schemes on estimation of rotor position and speed in the presence of resonance is studied. A method has been proposed to identify the resonance from the frequency content of measured phase currents well before it is exhibited in the mechanical measurement. It is compensated through excitation voltage. The microstepping excitation is found to provide fastest and smooth tracking of rotor position and speed. The results are validated through experimentation.","PeriodicalId":166144,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124883814","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One approach is to study the battery-power converter-electric machine chain for different types of batteries and electric machines, and therefore, adapt the power converter to the performance and dynamics required for those systems. In addition, these types of chains can allow bi-directional energy exchange not only among the storage systems on-board but also with ordinary electric grids. In this work, the plug-in vehicle has a modular topology where different solutions for the battery-power converter-electric machine chain of a plug-in electric vehicle are possible to be simulated. The system integrates ultracapacitors and batteries to store energy on-board. Among the sub-systems onboard, the batteries — AC grid connection has a significant contribution improving the modularity and efficiency of such systems. In this paper, aspects of the simulation model and results of a solution for this electric chain allowing bi-directional power flow and using different types of batteries (state of charge curves tested in the laboratory) is presented and analyzed.","PeriodicalId":166144,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives","volume":"304 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116335228","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, the power utilities have pursuing ways to delivery improvements to the system to ensure higher reliability without significant increases to operating costs. Given these statements and the regulatory aspects of the Brazilian Electric System, this paper presents a proposal to redefine the boundaries of performance DEC and FEC (equivalents to indexes SAIDI and SAIFI). To obtain results, Fuzzy Logic was applied to specific features of each evaluated system with the goal of matching the limits established by the Regulatory Agency in order to avoid excessive penalties for power utilities and to encourage the increased reliability of power supply.","PeriodicalId":166144,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116413665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
