In Brazil, power companies invest in research to improve energy efficiency of this type of load. This paper presents an automated irrigation system based on supervisory control (SCADA) and wireless communication. The main objective of the project is to monitor and control the level of water in the crop, which represents an important impact on energy efficiency and water consumption. Specific characteristics of rice cropping irrigation was taken into account, such as large distances involved and different working schemes of water pumps. A complete solution is presented and it includes equipment description for reliable communication and supervisory features.","PeriodicalId":166144,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives","volume":"148 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130440871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Darrieus type VAWT performance prediction is a very complex task, since its blades move around the rotor axis in a three dimensional aerodynamic environment that leads to several flow phenomena, such as, dynamic stall, flow separation, flow wake deformations and their natural inability to self-start. In the lift-type turbines the self-start incapability can be overcome with the use of several more or less complex solutions, being one of them the development of a blade profile capable of making the wind turbines self-start. Hence, this paper focuses on presenting a new methodology for fast development of new blade profiles, for self-start capable Darrieus type VAWT.","PeriodicalId":166144,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133118845","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since the voltage level of DC bus and batteries are different, the interface circuit must be able to increase or decrease the voltage level in each power flow direction while limiting the current. In contrast to almost all previous introduced bidirectional converters, the proposed bidirectional converter uses only one auxiliary switch to provide soft switching condition for all semiconductor devices. Low weight, small volume, high efficiency and reduced switching losses are the most important features of the proposed bidirectional converter. The converter operational modes are analyzed and simulation results are given to confirm the theoretical analysis.","PeriodicalId":166144,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132705138","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Condition monitoring, signal processing and data analysis are the key parts of the EVI fault detection scheme. The Motor Current Signature Analysis (MCSA) is considered as an effective condition monitoring method in any EVI. However, a signal processing technique, which enhances the fault signature and suppress the dominant system dynamics and noise, must be considered. Windowed Fourier transform analysis and wavelet are of the most considered signal processing methods. However, some parameters influence their ability and accuracy. This paper intends to investigate the effectiveness of these methods for incipient fault detection. Accordingly, current signal was measured and analyzed for broken rotor bar diagnosis in a squirrel-cage induction machine. Results indicated that though windowing improves Fourier transform analysis, it is not capable of accurate incipient fault detection. In other words, wavelet analysis is superior for this purpose.","PeriodicalId":166144,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130804064","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The first step for achieving this goal particularly the PD localizing is creation of simulation environment. In this paper three dimensional simulation is done using the FDTD method. The created simulation environment by FDTD was compared with CST software. The results of the two simulation environment had a good match with together. Consideration of the transformer active part is the feature of this simulation. Simulation results show that UHF electromagnetic (EM) waves can transmit from the radial ducts width between adjacent coils of high voltage winding. It was observed that the energy of received signal is proportional the oil duct width. Also it was observed that if the PD current pulse is steeper, signal energy and peak of the received signal would be reduced.","PeriodicalId":166144,"journal":{"name":"2011 International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128504889","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is mainly due to the power electronic converters of traction system drives and their single phase operation. The created harmonics and unbalance currents are propagated in the upstream electrical network. Also, the created harmonics put the power quality of the traction system in danger. In this paper the traction system load is characterized, an algorithm for compensating simultaneously the both harmonics and load unbalances, and a topology of Hybrid Active Power Filter (HAFP) for improving of power quality in upstream network and the traction system is presented. The proposed algorithm can be adapted to any traction transformer connections / configurations. Besides, the load side compensation is used which reduces the cost of installations.
