Using the method of content analysis, we consider the profile in the social network as the profile of the identity of the owner. Through the prism of presence/absence of information, we can assume who is this or that user. Based on various criteria, we can determine to which category a particular user can be attributed. We consider the profile in the network as a place of confession for the user, and the gadget considered as “prosthesis” that everyone needs to achieve their goals. Therefore, the person and the gadget are considered holistic. We provide information on the development of the OCEAN method, which allows us to «measure» the human psyche based on auto-expression on a social network. We present examples of using users data by Cambridge Analytics for political purposes, such as the 2016 presidential election in the USA, Brexit, and examples showing global data collection, high data representativeness, automating data collection processes, processing information from social network users and their profiling. To demonstrate the level of representativeness of the data, we compared the number of Facebook users in the USA with a population of this country. For comparison purpose, we also analyzed the statistics of users of the Android system. Based on the methods of induction and deduction, as a result, we presented the problems associated with the use of information of gadgets owners (identity theft, using data for manipulation (political and consumer) purpose, threats to democratic elections and the loss of subjectivity in the decision-making process). We also noted the trend (disappointment of people who understand the situation in the political system as a whole), which will develop as a reaction to these processes. As a conclusion, we propose solutions that can reduce negative processes (improving legislation at the international and national level, promoting awareness). The significance of this study for science and society is to clarify the problems associated with big data, which often remain outside the scope of discussion.

Academic researchers are not just included to the activities of modern universities, but are prioritised, because this kind of activity significantly affects the position of university in prestigious rankings, whereas ratings are among of the arguments in favor of the entrant’s decision to choose a university for further study. During the period from 2017 to 2021, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and similar government agencies in the United States and the EU, as well as many grant-making organisations in the field of education, declared the need to develop research activities of universities. It has become the responsibility of most Ukrainian lecturers to publish articles indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science scientometric databases. Research activities are particularly difficult for practitioners who are involved in teaching due to their experience in the business sector of national economy. According to the strategy of student-centered and practice-oriented learning, many such specialists had been involved in the activity of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations at the Institute of Journalism. Advertising and public relations are mostly applied areas, not traditional academic disciplines, unlike many other specialisations of academic departments in Ukrainian universities. Meanwhile, modern entrants show more interest in applied areas of social sciences than in theoretical issues. Therefore, the analysis of the research work of the Department of Advertising and Public Relations may be of particular interest to teachers and administrators working in higher education institutions. The main objectives and results of research work of the department are systematised on the basis of academic research papers, mass media publications of this department lecturers, as well as with the help of several special interviews with employees of the Institute of Journalism. The main achievements of key figures in research activities of this department are highlighted in the context of the common scientific theme of the institute: “Modern Media Studies in Educational and Scientific Discourses” and the individual research interests of the lecturers. The article provides an overview of the most important academic publications of them. A considerable attention is paid to the analysis of achievements and theoretical issues of academic research cooperation between teachers and students. The article emphasises the need to unite the efforts not only of the vast majority of Ukrainian academic researchers and educators, but also of the majority of Ukrainian society, as well as its truly pro-Ukrainian foreign partners, to reform the system of administration of research work and high education in Ukraine

How Information Changes the Thinking and Behavior of Ukrainians”. Oksana Moroz was the first in Ukraine to systematically collect and disclose technologies and practices that are used to create media viruses and manipulate the mass consciousness of citizens through the media. The Ukrainian edition is placed in the global context of this issue with an emphasis on such phenomena as information explosion, information fatigue syndrome, data accumulation, information vulnerability of modern humans, artificial intelligence, and integration of individuals and the technologies created by humans.\u0000The constructive contribution of the author to the study of this issue and the solution of the problem of manipulation of mass consciousness in Ukrainian society are analyzed. The author gives a lot of insider information gained over the years of working behind the scenes of the media, her book is filled with descriptions of real mechanisms and schemes, which, depending on the available budget, tasks, and tools, create the “information viruses” or large-scale media manipulation in the Ukrainian information area.\u0000The main factors of information hygiene formation and their probable effectiveness in the Ukrainian environment are indicated. If people will understand the tools used to manipulate the masses through various media and will be able to track this instrumental footprint, there will be a real way to sort out the situation in the Ukrainian media space. This publication is an attempt to start a discussion and draw attention to an urgent problem that requires a systematic solution at the level of media market regulators in Ukraine and active actions to introduce information hygiene on a national scale.

Copy editing of translated texts is different from copy editing of texts written in the native language, because the focus of the work shifts from how to deliver an author’s message in the most appropriate way to how to deliver author’s text, written in the native language, in another language (Ukrainian) in the most appropriate way. The first question is the versatility: does the copy editor need to know the language of the original text in order to do effective copy editing. And she/he should at least understand the basic features of the language of the original text such as phonetics, grammar and syntax. Also a copy editor should pay particular attention to such aspects as: at the lexical level – false friends, transliteration of proper nouns, excess of possessive pronouns, translation or adaptation of lexical gaps; at the syntactic level – copulative verb, word order in a sentence, contrastive stress in a phrase, address words, syntax simplification. A necessary aspect is the unification of certain elements in the translated text: address words, units of measurement (length, weight, area, time, volume, etc.), transliterated proper and common nouns.\u0000Described in this article principles of transliteration, unification, adaptation, lexical and syntactic aspects of copy editing of translated texts will help to improve the quality of translated books into Ukrainian.
