Recognition by the sender specified information as particularly important is motivated by the evaluation carried out by him, taking into account cognitive and religious criteria. In the analyzed metatextual structures we can distinguish formulas in which signaling importance is the only function, and formulas, in which signaling the importance of introducing content is an additional (accompanying) function, yet the main task of metatexts is naming and accentuating the strategic points of the discourse. Strictly evaluative formulas and persuasively characterized modal formulas, imperative formulas and emotional first-person formulas can be distinguished in both groups. Metatextual indicators signaling the importance of introducing content used by John Paul II are both structures specific to scientific texts, as well as structures peculiar and unusual for them, but characteristic of – for example – catechetical and preaching messages.","PeriodicalId":162310,"journal":{"name":"Słowo. The possibility of using non-verbal elements and interaction with the audience attracts artists representing various social groups. Slam poets who present original works prepared for oral presentation during the events often take on peculiar names (e.g. Sad Tuna, Wania Łania, Noicoztego, Wieszcz Leszcz, Raban). Slammers’ names present a plural diversity. Most often their incorporation is practically or artistically motivated. The anthroponyms used arouse the interest of the audience, who try to find out where the name came from. This article will discuss the function of slammers’ names and present their classification taking into account their origin, the motivation of the authors or the analysis of slammer self-presentations.","PeriodicalId":162310,"journal":{"name":"Słowo. The area of the Myjava Uplands represents a territory of the oldest and at the same time the most intensive Kopaničiar settlement in Slovakia. We present naming models, which are formed by functional members first name, surname, family name, individual characteristics, name of the house and appellative element. It explores the monosyllabic Chinese word ‘see’ in the graphemic perspective of traditional Chinese writing as well as the contribution of the radical 見 jiàn ‘see’ to the notation of the Chinese morphemes in the semantic field of “seeing”. The introduction to the topic outlines the relationship of a morpheme, syllable and grapheme. The historical background of the Kangxi radicals is discussed to show that the canon of graphemes classifies the entries in the traditional dictionaries of Chinese characters. The morphemes assigned in the dictionary to the radical 見 jiàn were analysed in the current paper with regard to “seeing” as a semantic component. Finally, drawing on the analysis, a model for the relationship of the morphemes’ prototypical meaning has been proposed.","PeriodicalId":162310,"journal":{"name":"Słowo. Responsible for the impression of interacting or communing with the spontaneously created text, which is a record of the living language of the narrator and characters, they are concerned with numerous simplifications and schemes. Among many diversified linguistic phenomena found in the novel by D. Masłowska, entitled “Kochanie, zabiłam nasze koty” (English title: “Honey, I killed our cats”, seemingly contradictory syntactic tendencies are used; the elliptical nature of syntax on the one hand, and, on the other hand, numerous repetitions both with regards to lexis and the construction of sentences. The segmentation or breaking up of utterances, as well as their excessive expansions, is similarly contradictory. Drawing from the spoken language aims to connect the at times unreal word depicted in the novel with the reality of the recipient, and to present the literary characters in a reliable way, more often than not associated with ordinariness.","PeriodicalId":162310,"journal":{"name":"Słowo. The Language material was gathered by means of a questionnaire. It was answered by almost 200 people, who represent two age groups: middle-school students, and the oldest inhabitants of the area in question. The results revealed significant differences in the way a child is perceived by the students and by the oldest generation. The respondents representing these two groups determine different caesura for adulthood, and they also justify this choice differently. Lexical terminology of children relating to their age constitutes a significantly larger number of lexical items in the language of the older inhabitants of Pogórze. Students more frequently quote names common in general Polish language, both in its colloquial and regional form. Older respondents are more keen to use differentiating dialectal terms, including lexical items referring to the past reality of village life. Students are familiar mainly with the dialectal lexical items for children that are widespread in the area in question and have numerous derivatives.","PeriodicalId":162310,"journal":{"name":"Słowo. {"title":"Imiennictwo łemkowskie w XIX wieku","authors":"Robert Słabczyński","doi":"10.15584/slowo.2020.11.9","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.15584/slowo.2020.11.9","url":null,"abstract":"The name resource of Lemkos living in the first half of the nineteenth century is mostly made up of anthroponyms derived from the Christian tradition, i.e. biblical names, as well as names of the holy martyrs and the blessed of different periods of Christianity, belonging more often to Eastern Churches, a little less often to the Catholic Church. Most of the Lemko anthroponyms derive from the Orthodox-Russian tradition, which in turn has its roots in the Greek tradition. Names of Greek etymology account for 50.5% of the excerpted material. The most common ones include the following: Anastasia, Gregor, Basilius, Andreas, Stephanus, Theodorus, Ksenia, Parasceve, Pelagia, Demetrius, Petrus, Helena. Latin names are much less common (19%), e.g. Paulus, Romanus, Antonius, Ignatius, Julia, Julianus, as well as Hebrew names (12,4%), e,g. Maria, Anna, Ewa, Joannes, Symeon. Germanic names (Wilhelmus, Adalbertus, Conradus, Leopoldus) and Slavic names (Stanislaus) were among the rarest. The analyzed anthroponomastics is characterized by high repeatability of names. The proper names in the top ten make up 57.3% of all units. The most frequently repeated names are Maria, Joannes, Anna, Anastasia, Gregorius, Andreas, Theodorus, Stephanus, Simeon. Names which have appeared once represent only 2.3% of the analyzed anthroponomastics.","PeriodicalId":162310,"journal":{"name":"Słowo. Method: the study used a case-experimental approach. The results were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. Results: the best-preserved semantic relations were indicated, the phenomena proving the quality of access to the mental dictionary were determined, the symptoms of degradation of the semantic dictionary were specified, the stage of processing disturbed was determined. The quantitative evaluation included the percentage description of the obtained results. Conclusions: A generally enhanced ability of the respondent to identify categorical proper names than common names was observed. This can probably be associated with the aforementioned specificity of proper names, related to their information entropy. We can talk about several causes of the observed dysfunctions, the most important seems to be the language deficit, manifested by impaired access to the semantic dictionary, dysfunctions in the field of metalinguistic operations within semantic networks, difficulties with updating words and, to some extent, the depletion of the resources of the mental lexicon. The test results should certainly also be considered in the context of cognitive dysfunctions. The results of this research are in accordance with previous findings suggesting that the difficulty of semantic categorization is related to the dysfunction of semantic memory in the field of categorization of the so-called fuzzy concepts.","PeriodicalId":162310,"journal":{"name":"Słowo. Based on Stefan Warchoł’s research about traditional folk zoonymy, and individual research, including the names of pigs housed in shelters, the dynamic for naming animals was analysed. The focus was mainly on the categorisation and tabulating the frequency of names over time. In order to exist, it must be constantly updated: frequently recalled, reinterpreted, reinforced. In this process, names play the role of a peculiar means of encoding memory for several reasons: they are fairly permanent, permanently assigned to specific denotatives, and have the ability to connote multiple contents. The subject of consideration in this article is an analysis of the elements of collective memory encoded in the names of objects of urban space: an attempt to systematize the ways of interpreting and transmitting this memory, as well as an assessment of the role of different types of motivational names in memory-forming processes. In the context of urban names, it is also important to ask about the relationship between memory, forgetfulness and repression, and to seek answers to the questions what elements are sometimes erased from the naming space of the city, what nomination practices lead to a “dialogue of memory” and which to a “conflict of memory”, how history and politics control memory-forming mechanisms through onimia.","PeriodicalId":162310,"journal":{"name":"Słowo.
