In case of allergy, chemotherapeutics side effect treatment, pain medicines and pediatric as well as geriatrics drug delivery prefers rapid response of drug. Numbers of drug from above categories have been formulated in rapid release tablet or film. With the use of natural polymers and superdisintegrants it is feasible to prepare these dosage forms to dissolve within 1min with minimum quantity of water. The aim of present review is to give complete detailed including all formulation aspects and evaluation parameters of rapid dissolve tablets and films. This review is first of its kind, as per our knowledge, which compiles complete information in one article. Rapid dissolve formulation have very high acceptance rate due to patient friendly formulation. Several technologies have been developed and patented. This review also covers patented technology.","PeriodicalId":15889,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Global Pharma Technology","volume":"62 1","pages":"01-14"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76193021","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The therapeutic activity of the formulations is obtained by disteintegration followed by dissolution. The inclusion of right disintegrants is a prerequisite to get optimal bioavailability in tablets and capsules. Disintegrants are the substances that causes the rapid disintegration of the capsules or tablets into smaller particles that dissolves more rapidly than in the absence of the disintegrants. On the other hand superdisintegrants ,as it name suggests superior to disintegrants are the substances which facilitates or increases the disintegration time even at low level ,typically 1-10% by weight relative to the total weight of the dosage unit. This article comprises of study of superdisintegrants which are being used in the formulation to provide safe and effective drug delivery with improved patient compliance.","PeriodicalId":15889,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Global Pharma Technology","volume":"8 1","pages":"15-20"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89040900","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently defined traditional medicine (including herbal drugs) as comprising therapeutic that have been in existence, often for hundreds of years, before the development of modern medicine and are still in use today. The traditional preparations comprise medicines which primarily use medicinal plant preparations for therapy. Embelia ribes is most widely used in traditional herbal medicine in India. The fruits of Embelia ribes reported to contain mainly benzoquinone derivatives such as Embelin and Vilangin. The dried fruit has been used in India since ancient times as an anthelmintic. Embelia ribes has been shown to possess astringent carminative, stimulant, antioxidant, anti-spermetogenic, anti-bacterial and anticancer activity. The plant Embelia ribes contains embelin, quercitol, and fatty ingredients, christembine, resinoid, tannins and minute quantities of a volatile oil.","PeriodicalId":15889,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Global Pharma Technology","volume":"24 1","pages":"18-27"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-09-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87209854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A defective insulin secretion disturbs the blood glucose level, which ultimately results into the Type-II diabetes mellitus. The rise in cytosolic Ca2+ concentration due to extracellular Ca2+ influx through voltage-gated Ca2+ channels acts as a key regulator for insulin secretion. Ca2+ influx is a triggering signal for insulin release which takes place in a biphasic manner. Ascorbic acid shares structural similarity with glucose and have evidences that supplementation of ascorbic acid relieved various complications of diabetes. This review focuses on the role of extracellular calcium and ascorbic acid in the management of Type 2 diabetes in MIN6 cell line which has unique ability to induce glucose-stimulated insulin secretion similar to the isolated pancreatic islet. Individual studies has been made for both the regulators hence we reviewed simultaneous literature together in order to have new approach which can be of therapeutic use in Type 2 diabetes.","PeriodicalId":15889,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Global Pharma Technology","volume":"37 1","pages":"01-07"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83306213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Prolonging the gastric retention time is desirable for achieving greater therapeutic benefit of drug substance. The research was aimed to develop gastroretentive mucoadhesive tablets of quetiapine for prolonged residence time. \u0000Methods: The wet granulation method was used for the preparation of various formulations (F1-F12) using different mucoadhesive polymers viz. hydroxyl propyl methyl cellulose K4M, hydroxyl propyl cellulose, chitosan, carbopol 934P and sodium carboxy methyl cellulose in different combinations. The formulations were subjected to various evaluation parameters such as swelling index, mucoadhesive strength, in vitro drug release profile and physical properties. Results: The study showed that the formulation containing chitosan and carbopol 934P in combination (F7) exhibited good swelling index, high mucoadhesive strength of 192.66 g and maximum in vitro residence time (10.14 hrs) and in vitro cumulative drug release after 24 hrs (96.26%). The optimized formulation (F7) was further subjected to in vivo retention time determination in rabbit by X-ray technique and accelerated stability studies. \u0000Conclusion: The formulation (F7) had shown promising potential to achieve desired goal as depicted from the release studies, swelling studies & mucoadhesion studies.","PeriodicalId":15889,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Global Pharma Technology","volume":"411 1","pages":"12-17"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78086147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

White albino male rats were used and different treatment regimens were studied using praziquantel as a reference compound. MTO dose of 834 mg/kg for 3 days, cured the infection in 75% of the rats, while lower doses exhibited less success. The number of worms was around 24 when the infected rats received a dose of 333 mg/kg for one day or for 3 successive days. Increasing dosing duration to 4 days, the mean number of worms decreased to 2 worms. Praziquantel produced a 100% cure of all infected rats in the assigned group. MTO emulsion proved to be effective against Hymenolepis nana. Although the results indicate the superiority of praziquantel, nevertheless the data obtained is promising for the interest of using natural products and warrants further investigation.","PeriodicalId":15889,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Global Pharma Technology","volume":"74 1","pages":"08-11"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90400736","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
