With the recent popularity gain of interactive web applications, the data size is beginning to be the tightest bottleneck, especially for detailed 3D animations. The MPEG-4 standard was recently supplemented with an algorithm for compression of dynamic triangle meshes called Frame-based Animated Mesh Compression, which is considered the state of the art in this area. We have thoroughly analysed the algorithm and identified some weak spots and unclarities. In this paper, we present several improvements and optimisations, which attempt to resolve the problems we found. These changes result in combined performance gain of up to 32 percent on tested datasets.","PeriodicalId":158764,"journal":{"name":"2011 3DTV Conference: The True Vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video (3DTV-CON)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125126498","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Their applicability, however, is limited due to the semi-dense nature of their reconstruction. We propose a method to generate a dense depth map from a patch cloud by assuming a planar surface model for non-reconstructed areas. We use local evidence to estimate the best fitting plane around missing areas. We then apply a graph cut optimization to select the best plane for each pixel. We demonstrate our approach with a challenging scene containing planar and non-planar surfaces.","PeriodicalId":158764,"journal":{"name":"2011 3DTV Conference: The True Vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video (3DTV-CON)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121219532","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, few studies have been done to analyze the Quality of Experience (QoE) perceived by the end-users in this scenario. This paper studies the impact of transmission errors in 3DTV, considering that the video is delivered in side-by-side format over a conventional packet-based network. For this purpose, a novel evaluation methodology based on standard single stimulus methods and with the aim of keeping as close as possible the home environment viewing conditions has been proposed. The effects of packet losses in monoscopic and stereoscopic videos are compared from the results of subjective assessment tests. Other aspects were also measured concerning 3D content as naturalness, sense of presence and visual fatigue. The results show that although the final perceived QoE is acceptable, some errors cause important binocular rivalry, and therefore, substantial visual discomfort.","PeriodicalId":158764,"journal":{"name":"2011 3DTV Conference: The True Vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video (3DTV-CON)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123180611","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Generally, 3D broadcasting has some considerations such as the 3D content delivery, rendering for generating of virtual-view image and glassless comfort viewing. These kinds of consideration seem more important in mobile broadcasting domain. Because, most of the mobile broadcasting system has limited circumstance compared with legacy broadcasting system. Hence, we introduce a research and development of various 3D broadcasting technique to overcome the drawbacks of 3D broadcasting and result of trial broadcast over DMB.","PeriodicalId":158764,"journal":{"name":"2011 3DTV Conference: The True Vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video (3DTV-CON)","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114603867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We can generate 3D human actor by capturing a depth and color image of human actor using a TOF camera which uses the IR sensor. But the acquisition is processed in an indoor environment due to the time and space constraints of capturing environments. In practice, a composition using a 3D human actor with a real scene has some problems such as low quality depth data of the TOF camera and the absence of illumination. Especially the illumination cannot be acquired when we capture a 3D human actor. To compose a 3D human actor with a real scene, the real light information of an environment should be represented. To efficiently use the real light information we estimate a small number of light sources from the HDR radiance map using a segmentation and a sampling methods. Experimental results show that our proposed method successfully generates natural illumination effects on the reconstructed 3D actor and the virtual object by using the estimated light information.","PeriodicalId":158764,"journal":{"name":"2011 3DTV Conference: The True Vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video (3DTV-CON)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114640033","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the 2D sensor profits from the whole field of view of an F-Mount photo film format lens, the smaller-sized 3D sensor is mounted onto a highly precise XY linear move stage. Thus, by the means of macro-scanning, the 3D sensor can be moved to interesting parts of the scene so as to provide a second modality e.g. for classification purposes, or, in the same setup, micro-scanning can be applied to enhance the lateral 3D resolution. A test setup was realized to verify the performance.","PeriodicalId":158764,"journal":{"name":"2011 3DTV Conference: The True Vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video (3DTV-CON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129185977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method models the RQ curve of video encoder and performance of channel codec to jointly derive the optimal encoder bit rates and unequal error protection (UEP) rates specific to the 3D video broadcast. Moreover, the distortion on the 3D video quality caused by packet losses and the loss rate of the channel is estimated. Finally, with the use of analytical models and estimated single packet loss distortions, end-to-end distortions are minimized and optimal encoder bit rates and UEP rates are obtained.","PeriodicalId":158764,"journal":{"name":"2011 3DTV Conference: The True Vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video (3DTV-CON)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121333560","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Motion vector predictors for INTER mode and SKIP (DIRECT) mode is optimally selected from a given adaptive set of predictors by a slightly modified rate-distortion criterion. The adaptive set of the predictor candidates is determined, based on the analysis of the predictors according to their prediction structures. The analyzed predictors include spatial, temporal, and inter-view predictors. The proposed scheme leads to the accurate and efficient MV prediction compared to the MVC reference software, JMVC 6.0. As a result, bit-rates are decreased by nearly 5% in average, up to 7.6%, in terms of the Bjontegaard Metric.","PeriodicalId":158764,"journal":{"name":"2011 3DTV Conference: The True Vision - Capture, Transmission and Display of 3D Video (3DTV-CON)","volume":"908 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116404485","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
