{"title":"Suriyeli Sığınmacı Çocukların Entegrasyonuna Yönelik Kurumsal Bir Modelleme Girişimi: Reyhanlı Eğitim Köyü","authors":"Fatih Yaman","doi":"10.21733/IBADJOURNAL.592380","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.21733/IBADJOURNAL.592380","url":null,"abstract":"Beyond spatial displacement, migrations have a challenging nature, including the unraveling scope of cultural, political, ethnic and religious codes that constitute the ties of mental and social belonging, as well as the reconstruction within social reality of the migrated region. Since 2011 the political instability and civil war process in Syria has turned into a reality that led to hundreds of thousands of people to have died and millions of people embarked on a forced migration journey. The difficulties that emerge in migration processes undoubtedly affect children the most. This is because of the fact that the children, whose physical and psychological developments are not yet completed, are victims of various traumatic events, especially in violent conflict environments such as the civil war in Syria. Children who witness the casualties in the war environment may face a series of problems such as physical violence, harassment and abuse during the migration process involved. Furthermore, for children, who have to move away from their family, friendship and education, adapt to the new environment in their new migrated places, the well-being periods are prolonged considerably. In this context, the fact that approximately four million Syrians who have taken refugees, 45% of whom are the children under the age of eighteen in Turkey, has particularly been pointed out the importance in the studies focusing the integration of children as asylum seekers. Indeed, for the Syrians who do not have a return agenda yet to their home countries, it is possible to create a systematic application for asylum-seeking children by the society in Turkey in the medium and long term. At this stage, non-governmental organizations should be involved in the process actively by taking the initiative as the practices developed by the state organs towards the integration of Syrian children do not seem to have reached the required levels. It is obvious that comparative analysis results of textbooks, which are the fundamental guides of education, have substantial reflections such as detecting shortcomings and flaws, keeping the education up to date and processing mathematical concepts to make them integrable into education. Greek mathematicians have immense contributions in terms of laying the foundations of geometry. Therefore, including Greek textbooks in the comparative analysis was deemed important. The aim of this study is to compare the subjects of Pythagorean Theorem and how it is grounded between the mathematics textbooks of Turkey and Greece, and to reveal similarities and contrasts. Document analysis as a qualitative research method was applied in the study. Conducting content analysis on textbooks, findings of the comparative analysis of the books were coded and tabulated, and interpreted by combining shared themes. The results of the study revealed that the Greek textbook introduced planar surface areas, surface measurement units and area of plane figures before explaining the Pythagorean Theorem while the theorem itself was clarified by being proven through area formulas. The Turkish textbook, on the other hand, introduced median, altitude, angle bisector, side relationships, angle-side relationships in triangles and drawing triangles. The relationship between side lengths of the given right triangle and surface area of the given square were examined, and the Pythagorean Theorem formula application was displayed through examples. Moreover, in contrast to the textbook of Turkey, the textbook of Greece contained a fair amount of historical information, the converse of the Pythagorean Theorem, and applications and exercises intended for proving the theorem. The model of freedom, glorified or blessed as individualism and popular discourse created by the conditions of the current economic, social and political system, imprisones people in a confined environment with only their family and close friends and obliges them to adopt and adhere to a life that focuses only on individual success. Today, we are becoming indifferent to everything except ourselves. And we are becoming more and more lonely. As a matter of fact, individualistic based lifestyles make individuals feel compelled to behave more career-oriented, successoriented and pragmatic. In the words of Niedzviecki (2011), in an individual society that is extremely fragmented, bounded and organized, individuals constantly think about their own interests. Evaluating life and relationships through interests and focusing only on success can be associated with the rise of Machiavellian identities. The individual lifestyle has increased the number of individuals with narcissistic and machiavellian dispositions who regard whatever it takes to achieve their goals and maximize their personal interests as the sine qua non of life and can afford to try everything on this path.
