This study aimed to assess the experimental wound-healing effect of 0.5% humic acid gel. A full-thickness skin wound was created on the dorsal side of 24 Sprague Dawley male rats (220–250g). The animals were then randomly divided into the control, sham, and experimental groups. Skin wounds were bandaged daily using sterile gauze dipped in normal saline, carboxymethylcellulose, and 0.5% humic acid for 21 days. The wound-healing rate was evaluated grossly and histologically at various time intervals post-injury. Wound-healing percentage was significantly higher in the gel treatment group at all time points (P < 0.05). The mean number of inflammatory cells was significantly lower in the humic acid gel group than in the other groups (P < 0.001). Moreover, the number of new vascular cells and fibroblasts were significantly increased in the humic acid gel compared to the control (P < 0.001). These data confirmed that 0.5% humic acid gel accelerates wound healing, probably by anti-inflammatory effects, as well as by promoting vascular and fibroblast proliferation. Therefore, the humic acid gel may be used to improve wound care.","PeriodicalId":15415,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery","volume":"380 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139205011","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The condition is often recalcitrant and difficult to treat on account of its location. Frequent recurrences following excision is often frustrating for the patient and the surgeon. Application of pressure along with intra-operative and postoperative intralesional steroids is a popular choice and is in vogue by surgeons and dermatologists. However, considering the uniqueness of the structure for every individual, it is often difficult to ensure one size fits all when using pressure therapy as an adjunct. We designed a simple PMMA dental prosthesis to ensure comfortable yet effective constant pressure over the lesion to ensure complete aesthetic outcome without recurrence in an operated earlobe keloid.","PeriodicalId":15415,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery","volume":"52 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139205142","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The tumor develops from the outer root sheath of the hair follicle. The patient underwent a wide local excision with 1 cm clear margin. The defect was covered by split thick skin graft harvested from ipsilateral thigh after consulting the plastic surgery department. Trichilemmal cyst can be misdiagnosed as other cutaneous lesions. Like in our case, initial FNAC was suggestive of a epidermoid cyst but post excision Histopathological examination gave us the real picture of a trichilemmal tumor. Recurrent tumors are very rare and can get misdiagnosed as squamous cell carcinoma. Malignant proliferating trichilemmal tumors are rare cutaneous tumors that are very rare in males. These tumors can be misdiagnosed as squamous cell carcinoma and require external stimuli for malignant conversion from benign counterparts. Wide local excision is sufficient for treatment.","PeriodicalId":15415,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery","volume":"181 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139204486","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Subcision and microneedling are cutting-edge treatment options available nowadays. In this study, we aimed to compare the efficacy of microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) against subcision with PRP in treating atrophic post-acne scars in a split-face study design. Fifty patients with atrophic post-acne facial scars were included in this prospective interventional study. Group A included the left side of the face managed by microneedling with PRP and group B included the right side of the face that was subjected to subcision with PRP. Results were assessed based on Goodman and Baron qualitative and quantitative grading. In our study, at the end of the treatment, on the left side, 5 (10%) had 1 grade of improvement showing good response, 35 (70%) had 2 grades of improvement showing very good response, and 10 (20%) had 3 grades of improvement showing excellent response. On the right side, 1 (2%) patient had no improvement in acne grade showing poor response, 9 (18%) had 1 grade of improvement showing good response, 25 (50%) had 2 grades of improvement showing very good response, whereas 15 (30%) had 3 grades of improvement showing excellent response. Till date, apart from ours no other study has compared the two modalities head-to-head with adjuvant PRP in both groups. Although both modalities showed statistically significant results individually, there was no significant difference in qualitative improvement of acne scars between the two groups.","PeriodicalId":15415,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery","volume":"233 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139206976","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Lasers like Alexandrite, diode, and Nd:Yag lasers have been used for hair reduction with varying efficacy. Trichoscopy of hair is a simple noninvasive method of hair assessment. However, it has not been used in the assessment of diode laser hair reduction. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of diode laser hair reduction in skin color with the help of clinical and trichoscopic assessment. This prospective observational study included 73 patients of hirsutism recruited in 18-month period. All participants received sessions of 805nm diode laser at monthly intervals up to six sessions. Clinical and trichoscopic evaluation along with photographs were obtained at each visit. Side effects, if any, were noted in every sitting. All patients were females of Fitzpatrick skin types III–V. All clinical parameters showed statistically significant hair reduction when compared with baseline. Trichoscopic parameters of hair reduction like total hair count, terminal hair count, and terminal/vellus hair ratio showed reduction compared to baseline which was statistically significant (P < 0.05). The most common side effect noted in our study was pain followed by erythema and perifollicular edema. Diode laser is an effective and safe procedure for the reduction of unwanted facial hair, even in darker skin types. We also wish to emphasize that trichoscopy for the assessment of laser hair reduction is a recent, noninvasive, simple, and underutilized tool. No serious adverse events were noted in our study.","PeriodicalId":15415,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery","volume":"48 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139206882","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
