We develop a two-stage solution procedure that integrates heuristic search algorithms and an integer programming model. The proposed procedure can be applied to a wide range of distribution problems with a specified delivery time window and a circular transportation network structure as exemplified in City of Beijing.","PeriodicalId":154053,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Conference on Service Operations and Logistics, and Informatics","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116291029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since labor costs are a major component of the total cost of operation efficient staff scheduling is critical. But because of uncertainty in arrival rates, efficient scheduling is very difficult. While there are many models in the literature that address call center scheduling, the majority of these models ignore the issue of arrival rate uncertainty and focus only on the stochastic variability of interarrival times given a known arrival rate. In this paper I summarize my research into the issue of arrival rate uncertainty and its impact on scheduling. I review empirical data from outsourced call centers that demonstrates the level of uncertainty present in many applications, and propose scheduling and staffing models that consider arrival rate uncertainty.","PeriodicalId":154053,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Conference on Service Operations and Logistics, and Informatics","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126388817","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This objective of this paper is to present the model and algorithm for third party logistics supplier (3PLS) to design the efficient and effective hazardous waste reverse logistics network under the fuzzy and uncertain environment. We proposed a multi-type hazardous waste, fuzzy multi-objective and capacitated facility location model for 3PLS considering cost-effective and risk-minimizing hazardous waste reverse logistics network. We applied the triangular fuzzy numbers to describe the uncertainty of the disposal quantity of hazardous wastes, accident probability of hazardous wastes and the unit transportation cost in the fuzzy model. To solve the fuzzy model, we firstly converted the fuzzy multi-objective model into two, crisp, single-objective models by combining the goal satisfactory function, ¿-cut theory and extending principle. Then we founded a hybrid genetic algorithm to solve the crisp single objective model. The numerical example shows that the confidence of fuzzy numbers, the goal weighting and the goal satisfactory function affect the decision results, and that the feasibility of the fuzzy model and algorithm for 3PLS to design a hazardous waste reverse logistics network.","PeriodicalId":154053,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Conference on Service Operations and Logistics, and Informatics","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129158664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

RFID is getting more attentions, and not only field trials but also commercial implementations are reported recently. Although the number of RFID implementations is increasing, many of current RFID implementations focus on SCM logistics application, and this single purpose implementation does not always make positive return on investment. The approach we propose is a multi-application approach, with which SCM financial applications utilize location data of corporate assets captured originally for SCM logistics applications. By sharing the same RFID system and utilizing the captured data with multiple applications, returns from the system will be amplified. We propose five SCM financial applications in three categories, evaluate the benefit of a proposed application by simulation with a hypothetical scenario, and show the feasibility of the proposed approach by developing a demo system.","PeriodicalId":154053,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Conference on Service Operations and Logistics, and Informatics","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124055826","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on inducting the enablers which caused customer switching behavior in the existing studies, this research designed a customer switching intention model, analyzed the relationship between these enablers and switching intention by introducing the variable of customer perceived value into the model, and gave an empirical test. The result indicated that the customer perceived value plays an important role in the switching intention model as an intermediate variable, most of the controlled incidents by enterprises influence customer switching intention by the adjustment of customer perceived value indirectly. But most ofthe uncontrolled incidents by enterprises can influence switching intention directly. Meanwhile, core service failure is the key enabler of customer switching intention.","PeriodicalId":154053,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE International Conference on Service Operations and Logistics, and Informatics","volume":"136 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131847966","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
