However, to date, there has been relatively little research on learning the relationships between Mobile-Assisted Language Learning and university students’ perceptions of this innovative teaching approach. In this paper, some of the existing research on the topic of mobile learning is reviewed to connect language learning, educational technology, and perceptions of learners towards the use of mobile technology to support language learning. The $1^{{mathrm {st}}}$-year students in the Germanic Philology Department at Sumy State University, Ukraine, were first exposed to a MALL experience, and then asked to express their thoughts on the incorporation of mobile devices into the language classroom. Research findings revealed overall positive attitudes and perceptions amongst the students surveyed. However, some technical and digital literacy challenges emerged during the intervention. Despite some constraints, the university students majoring in English indicated their readiness for mobile assisted learning. The learning/teaching materials elaborated for the study might be useful for practitioners and researchers in the field of mobile pedagogy for EFL teaching.","PeriodicalId":153823,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 20th International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies (ICALT)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124934295","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It includes a programmable interaction system based on hand movement and gesture recognition, that allows to easily create and use customized hand gestures for interaction with 3D objects in a virtual environment. By applying the TAM model to discover the motivation, enjoyment and behavioral intention to use, the results show that: (1) using NUI technologies in interactive learning environments improve the enjoyment and the perceived ease of use; (2) perceived enjoyment was a significant issue in the intention to use; (3) NUIs interfaces during exercises could provide motivation to learn for middle school students.","PeriodicalId":153823,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 20th International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies (ICALT)","volume":"14 22","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120863409","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dataset includes the results of written questionnaires from 24 teacher students and video and written diary posts by 18 of those students. Data was analyzed using inductive and deductive content analysis. The results of the study reveal that the advantages of video diary are the richness of emotions and authenticity, faster compilation, alternation to written work and opportunity to get used to watching and hearing oneself on video. The disadvantages pointed out were fear of the camera, issues with technology and digital competence, choice of location for video-recording, logic and thoughtfulness of the text and potential unwanted circulation of video material. Written practice diary posts contained fewer meaning units than video diary posts. In reflections of both formats, the descriptive level was most common.","PeriodicalId":153823,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 20th International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies (ICALT)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120954606","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the development of the DigiCulture project we decided to extend the existing UniCampus platform with a new DigiCulture theme. This paper presents the technical development, based on the Moodle framework, with new user interactions. The DigiCulture project develops free, online short courses dedicated to adults with low digital skills. The shortage of digital skills in Europe reported in 2016 in “European Digital Progress Report EDPR” of the European Commission: 45% of Europeans have insufficient or no digital skills. As there are big differences between the countries that are partners in DigiCulture, we propose an integrated approach for course development, but with national personalization as language, study cases. These implementation and personalization are presented in this paper.","PeriodicalId":153823,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 20th International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies (ICALT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129604129","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a result, it is essential for online learning systems to provide mechanisms that monitor the behavior of students and encourage them to engage with course content. Research has shown that adaptive notifications providing students with feedback motivate learners to engage with online learning. In addition, visualizations presenting progress, time spent on tasks and activities, and engagement levels have also been shown to support student engagement. This research analyzes whether the combination of adaptive notifications and visualizations may influence gaming behavior. It found that although most students benefitted from this combination, 14.3% of learners tried to artificially enhance their engagement levels.","PeriodicalId":153823,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 20th International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies (ICALT)","volume":"160 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127307663","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is a lack of work studying the characteristics of SE responses prompted by collaborative activities. In this paper, we use writing analytics to investigate differences between SE text responses resulting from individual versus collaborative learning activities. A Coh-Metrix analysis suggests that students in the collaborative SE activity demonstrated a higher level of comprehension. Future research should explore how writing analytics can be incorporated into CSCL systems to support student performance of SE activities.","PeriodicalId":153823,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 20th International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies (ICALT)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114073682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
