Our replication results support much of the original study. Inertia to use the existing system significantly affected intentions to use the new system. Inertia also affected perceptions of the new system (perceived ease of use and relative advantage) which in turn affected intentions. We found a few differences from the original study and highlight what we consider the major ones. First, the original study found that sunk costs, incumbent system habit, and transition costs all significantly influenced inertia, whereas we found that only sunk costs had a significant influence on inertia. We attribute this to the differences in technologies studied; the original study examined a technology that required a change in both software and work processes whereas we studied a technology switch that only required a change in software (no major change in work processes). Second, the original study found a complex two-part moderation of inertia on the relationship between subjective norm and intentions, while we found a simple direct effect of subjective norm on intentions with no moderation. We also attribute this to the differences in technologies studied; the original study examined a technology that required mutual switch by two parties whereas we studied a technology that required a switch by only one.","PeriodicalId":146711,"journal":{"name":"AIS Trans. Conducting six separate longitudinal studies, the effect of professional training on improving one’s application-specific computer self-efficacy (AS-CSE) was shown. Also in line with some prior IS studies it was shown that an application-specific measure of self-efficacy is better able to predict one’s performance in accomplishing tasks in the corresponding domain than a general computer self-efficacy (GCSE) measure. Moreover, it is shown that, regardless of the type and characteristics of the training method, individuals’ perceptions of quality of training significantly affects their AS-CSE after the training course.","PeriodicalId":146711,"journal":{"name":"AIS Trans. Whereas Chandra et al. focused on mobile payment systems, we apply their theoretical model to the context of adopting open source software (OSS). Results are largely consistent and comparable with those of the original model; we also found that user trust plays a vital role in OSS adoption intention. However, two of the hypotheses had significantly different results in our model when compared to the original—specifically, perceived reputation did not have a significant impact on trust in the technology, and trust had a more powerful effect on the perceived usefulness of the technology. We argue that users’ expectations regarding trust are different depending on the type of technology that a user intends to adopt.","PeriodicalId":146711,"journal":{"name":"AIS Trans. Sun (2012) conceptualized, tested empirically, and validated this new concept for the first time. We conducted a methodological replication of Sun’s (2012) work. We show that his study on ASU can be successfully replicated under similar contextual conditions. While our research is a first step towards understanding ASU in more detail, further replications in the search for new potential moderators and the applicability of ASU in different contextual conditions are necessary. Additional replications further the generalizability of the ASU model and its triggers.","PeriodicalId":146711,"journal":{"name":"AIS Trans. We conducted a conceptual replication of this study in an attempt to examine the robustness of its findings. Our data were collected in a different country (Sri Lanka versus US), using different subjects (MBA versus undergraduate students) grouped into 24 teams that were collocated (rather than geographically distributed) but still using a CT and engaged in different tasks (judgement versus intellective) than the original study. Two of the five hypothesized results were replicated, indicating that certain characteristics of high-performing virtual teams seem universal. However, the remaining differences between the studies point to the influence of task, culture, and geographic dispersion of members in determining effective leadership behaviors in self-managed virtual teams.","PeriodicalId":146711,"journal":{"name":"AIS Trans. For this purpose, the original research model was adapted and examined in a different context: cloud service usage in Germany, focusing on Dropbox. The conditions in a cloud service context differ fundamentally from those in the original study (online banking), since use is free of charge (freemium business models), customers have a wide choice of providers with low switching costs, and positive network effects are presumably in effect. The empirical analysis of 321 responses from a cross-sectional study based on the research model of Bhattacherjee (2001) confirmed his results for a different sample group and in a different context: confirmation was a predictor of perceived usefulness, satisfaction was significantly influenced by confirmation and perceived usefulness, and satisfaction and perceived usefulness predicted continuance intention. Nevertheless, the path coefficients of satisfaction and perceived usefulness on continuance intention were measurably lower in our results than in the original study. The findings imply that although the model is generally confirmed, additional factors are likely to influence the intention to continue IS usage in this specific context.","PeriodicalId":146711,"journal":{"name":"AIS Trans. The social sciences, and in particular the information systems discipline, has lagged behind the physical sciences which have more established traditions of independently replicating studies from other labs. In this essay, we outline the need for replication in the information systems discipline, identifying three possible approaches for executing such studies. There are numerous benefits to the discipline from embracing and valuing replication research. Replication will either improve confidence in our research findings or identify important boundary conditions. Replications also enhance various scientific processes and offer methodical and educational improvements. Collectively, these benefits will help the information systems discipline mature and prosper.","PeriodicalId":146711,"journal":{"name":"AIS Trans. We use four social media datasets with posts and personality scores for nearly 9,000 users to determine the accuracy of the Receptiviti predictions. The model was tested using data collected from 251 students learning ERP in a simulated computer-based training environment. In general, results are consistent with the original study, where cognitive absorption positively influences perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. Nonetheless, there were some notable differences. Unlike the original study, this replication study found that the cognitive absorption had no direct impact on perceived usefulness, but the effect was indirect via perceived ease of use underscoring the uniqueness of computer-based training environment. Further, perceived usefulness had no significant impact on use intention. Moreover, we found a significant positive relationship between perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. The study controlled for age, gender, previous ERP experience, and business process experience.","PeriodicalId":146711,"journal":{"name":"AIS Trans. The purpose of this study is to perform a theoretical (conceptual) replication of both the core and full (PMT) nomologies in the context of voluntary password manager application use for individual home end-users. In our study, the full PMT model explained more variance than the core PMT model, but the relationships between multiple behavioral antecedents differed between the core and full PMT models, possibly due to differences in model complexity. Our findings suggest that researchers should justify the version of the PMT that they choose to use based on their research objectives with the understanding that the same variables may be significant in one version of the PMT but not significant in another version of the PMT.","PeriodicalId":146711,"journal":{"name":"AIS Trans.
