Islamova","doi":"10.51508/intcess.202340","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.51508/intcess.202340","url":null,"abstract":"The article is devoted to the relevance and features of the formation of the key competencies among students of the Humanities at the non-linguistic universities (linguistic, regulatory, intercultural and communicative). The aim of the study is the theoretical substantiation of the features and development of technology for the formation of key competencies in foreign language classes at a non–linguistic university. The following features of teaching a foreign language are considered: interdisciplinary, integration, multilevel, multifunctionality, heterogeneity and infinite character. The principles of formation of key competencies in the process of teaching the foreign language are defined, among them personal goal-setting, the choice of individual educational trajectory, learning productivity, the primacy of the student’s educational products, situationality, educational reflection. Higher professional education puts forward the need to train a competitive specialist. The authors identified disadvantages in the teaching of a foreign language at the non-linguistic universities, among them insufficient level of foreign language proficiency; lack of new methods of teaching and learning materials (the global IT industry does not solve this problem, it only helps); lack of relationship between classes in a foreign language and in specialized disciplines. In the context of the study, the authors consider key language competencies as components of the professional competence of a specialist in the humanities. The role of individual and personal factors is extremely important when teaching a foreign language to students of the humanities. During educational activities, each student manifests himself in different ways. Someone has a great concentration of attention, memory, great activity of thought processes. Someone is characterized by a quick reaction. Someone, unfortunately, does not have such personality qualities. Professions are changing as activities become more and more technology-intensive. This makes the use of digital technologies a key element of workforce training. As a result, digital transformation radically changes the labour market. It affects the quantity of job positions and the quality characteristics of workforce. These changes pose the question of developing the digital skills and competences of working people, especially those of young people who are about to start their career. This problem is particularly relevant given the fact that youth unemployment is a serious challenge both at national and European level. The analysis outlines the possible obstacles regarding the labour market inclusion of young people through a self-assessment of their digital competences. Emphasis is placed on the skills that economics students must develop or improve in order to meet the demands of the labour market in Bulgaria. This is an important condition for their professional realization. The self-assessment of skills and the awareness of the shortage of digital skills with students will facilitate the process of developing a vision for improving their digital literacy. The ability to identify the necessary skills in perspective is the basis on which to build the education system in Bulgaria. The latter can ensure the readiness of young people to realize in the labour market. Following the discussions with other members of the teaching staff, it was considered appropriate to introduce interdisciplinary exercises that would fill the existing gaps both within the information technology and communications subject, as well as regarding other subjects existing in the curricula. By means of a questionnaire, a general assessment of general skills is carried out considering aspects related to verbal and written communication, basic mathematical concepts, digital skills, etc., as well as specific topics in the field of IT&C: self-assessment regarding the level of digital skills and the use of digital tools in the educational process, the correct use of on-line resources and different information channels regarding the educational and professional course, presentation of professional options and certifications useful in carrying out the labor activity. Taking advantage of the dynamic and interactive nature of on-line resources and alternatives of e-learning, the exercises developed during the laboratory hours were aimed to provide extracurricular information and activities. These would contribute to the general motivation of students to easily promote the existing subjects within the school program. As a conclusion of the study, the digitization of the education system represented the opportunity to adapt to a new teaching-learning context.
