A back-propagation algorithm was used for the training task while implementation and synthesis tools are centred on the ISE 6.3 of Xilinx with the targeted components being Virtex II and Virtex II Pro. A fixed point and a floating point number representation were used for encoding real numbers and for data processing, respectively. The realization of the activation function was carried out according to three methods, for which the results of simulation and synthesis are also presented. The implementation performances were tested using an approximation of some linear and non-linear functions. Of particular importance, an experimental evaluation involving the speed control of a DC motor is given to demonstrate the features of the adopted methodology.","PeriodicalId":139846,"journal":{"name":"2008 Conference on Human System Interactions","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125199511","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The hand shape recognition algorithm consists of two parts: hand region extraction process and hand shape recognition process. Furthermore, the algorithm can be applied to recognition of a moving hand. In this paper, recognition of a moving hand is reduced to recognition of still image. A moving hand is recognized by the proposed method in real time.","PeriodicalId":139846,"journal":{"name":"2008 Conference on Human System Interactions","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133057094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Depth perception is a part of vision allowing to accurately determine the distance to an object which makes it an important visual task. Humans have two eyes with overlapping visual fields that enable stereo vision and thus space perception. Some birds however do not have overlapping visual fields, and compensate this lask by moving their heads, which in turn makes space perception possible using the motion parallax as a visual cue. This paper presents a solution using an optomechanical filter that was inspired by the way birds observe their environment. The filtering is done using two different approaches:using motion blur during motion parallax, and using the optical flow algorithm. The two methods have different advantages and drawbacks, which will be discussed in the paper. The proposed system can be used in robotics for 3D space perception.","PeriodicalId":139846,"journal":{"name":"2008 Conference on Human System Interactions","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124936672","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of the techniques and models use the result of design, implementation and test phases; there are only a few models that are employed at the early phase of software development. Assessment of software reliability in the early phases of software development process, however, is very important for better prognosis and management of risks. In this paper we propose an approach for early software reliability assessment, based on software behavioral requirements. The major difference between our approach and those of others is the fact that we use a formal method, called Viewcharts, to specify the behavior of software systems.","PeriodicalId":139846,"journal":{"name":"2008 Conference on Human System Interactions","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121884912","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this system, the main unit communicates with the powered terminal by changing the voltage signal to the positive and the negative. The powered terminal communicates with the main unit using the reply current signal. Because this system is used for on-off control, the communication speed is slow. Then, we proposed the add-on type multiplex module to be able to do communications at speeds higher than conventional systems. The input impedance of the main unit is very low though the multiplex module communicates by increasing the input impedance. In this paper, we propose the impedance upper connected to the main unit for steady communications, and describe the basic characteristics.","PeriodicalId":139846,"journal":{"name":"2008 Conference on Human System Interactions","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122870743","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The state-models obtained by applying these general-case approaches are valid under both continuous and discontinuous operating modes. The first two methods use averaging process and allow only a low-frequency representation of the converter, whereas the third one, which is based on the using of the switching function concept, gives a mathematical model that is valid in the entire frequency range and has thus more accuracy in computer implementations. For illustration purpose, and in order to show the extendibility of all three modeling approaches to other families of switch-mode converters, a boost-type single-phase full-bridge rectifier is considered. The most-general switching-function-based model is highly suitable for real-time simulations.","PeriodicalId":139846,"journal":{"name":"2008 Conference on Human System Interactions","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130109771","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
