The proposed recognition system is based on multilayer feed forward neural networks (MFNNs) and uses texture information encoded with corresponding statistical measures that are fed as input to the MFNN. Experiments were performed for recognition of different types of tumors in various images and also a number of sequentially acquired frames. The recognition of a polypoid tumor of the colon in the original image, which were used for training was very high. The trained network was also able to satisfactorily recognize the tumor in a sequence of video frames. The results of the proposed approach were very promising and it seems that it can be efficiently applied for tumor recognition.","PeriodicalId":138250,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 26th Euromicro Conference. Much current research aims to alleviate these problems by tailoring content and navigation options to individual users. OO provides a means of creating a modular framework for generating different, as opposed to singular, structures, enabling tailoring to different audiences. We present (part of) ExAM, an OO model that separates document concept-segments from the structure generating devices, providing a generic framework for structuring knowledge from any subject domain, according to any definable instructional techniques.","PeriodicalId":138250,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 26th Euromicro Conference. Thus, a bad evaluation of the company network capabilities can generate dysfunction of group conversations. The objective of this paper is to improve the network organization in order to improve the quality of service that it can guarantee. A method based on the analysis of cooperation graphs is proposed. The interests of this method are shown from the network organization simulation results of an exchange scenario.","PeriodicalId":138250,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 26th Euromicro Conference. Cell batching introduces small on-board data buffers, thus enabling longer burst transfers on the system bus. The effects of cell batching on other server components are investigated. In particular, cell batching alters the temporal relationship of bus accesses initiated by ATM controllers, and can thus affect the performance of arbitration in terms of access latency. We use extensive simulations of a traditional multimedia server architecture in a streaming scenario to evaluate a number of widely used arbitration protocols. Simulation results suggest that cell batching can increase average and maximum access latency of I/O devices, and that it reduces fairness. These results are consistent across the considered range of arbitration protocols. Compared with results for a system without cell batching, however overall level of service is improved by up to 20%. Moreover, cell batching tends to obliterate the difference between arbitration protocols.","PeriodicalId":138250,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 26th Euromicro Conference. EUROMICRO 2000. It is used in high-level synthesis for operation scheduling and allocation. Basically it is a scheduling algorithm, but due to some additional criteria it is able to produce an optimal schedule for the process of allocation. In other words, it prepares the data-flow graph to be allocated easier, faster and more efficiently. The algorithm is also compared with other algorithms through the evaluation of schedules of various graphs. We found that the MOGS algorithm made the best solutions in all tests and is therefore very appropriate for use in high-level synthesis.","PeriodicalId":138250,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 26th Euromicro Conference. Complex, dynamic systems can be simulated without the cost and time constraints involved with real systems. Experimentation with the simulation enables the system characteristics to be rapidly explored and system performance data to be generated, so encouraging modification to improve performance. This paper details the experiences encountered when designing and building a proprietary continuous discrete-event object-oriented simulation in order to further investigate the performance of a proposed continuous-media server I/O subsystem. Previous investigations of the proposed architecture have been based upon mathematical models in order to calculate comparative performance. However such static models do not take into account the dynamic properties of a system. A simulation tool was therefore built in order to assess quality of service under high system load conditions. The resulting simulation rapidly produced more realistic performance figures, in addition to providing a flexible simulator infrastructure for other unrelated projects.","PeriodicalId":138250,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 26th Euromicro Conference. Unlike the Y-chart approach (A.C.J. Kienhuis, 1998) which helps design space exploration at higher levels of abstraction, PRCLIB methodology addresses the issue of design space exploration at RTL levels. Although the methodology is developed keeping in mind Data Driven Media Processor (DDMP), the methodology is applicable to general purpose processors as well. In PRCLIB methodology, we also support parameterized test pattern generation, intellectual property (IP) reuse, automatic RTL code generation. Finally, we compare the scope of our tool with a similar tool, Hyper (O. Bentz).","PeriodicalId":138250,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 26th Euromicro Conference. EUROMICRO 2000. The system is based on a database where anatomical concepts have been organized into a hierarchical framework. Along with term queries that allow retrieving concepts containing or exactly matching the used keyword, the system provides semantic access to anatomical information. Queries can be setup for retrieving concepts relying on a particular meaning and sharing particular relationships. Moreover, the application has the capability to refine the term search by automatically querying the UMLS Knowledge Server. Integration between symbolic and visual knowledge has been carried out by providing access to indexed image content. The system has been implemented through Java client-server technology and works within standard Internet browsers.","PeriodicalId":138250,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 26th Euromicro Conference. Exhaustive testing is assured by a balanced mixture of pseudorandom, fault and application-oriented instruction sequences. Special tools have been used to manage the test monitoring and to optimize the fault coverage. Their usefulness was illustrated with experimental results. Some data related to the cost (in time and RAM space) of the developed tests are presented.","PeriodicalId":138250,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 26th Euromicro Conference. EUROMICRO 2000.
