Thismay be substantially linked to the fact that men havetrouble admitting that they suffer from depression.Aim of the study: The study aimed to assess the riskof depression in males in relation to health behaviours,loneliness, satisfaction with life, potential sleep disorders, the ability to cope with stress, and the relationships between risky activities, unprotected sex, engaging in casual sexual contacts and problems with erection/impotenceMaterials and methods: The study was based on anoriginal questionnaire, the De Jong Gierveld Loneliness Scale, the Generalised Self-Efficacy Scale, theBeck's Depression Inventory, the Gotland MaleDepression Scale, the Health Behaviour Inventory, theSatisfaction With Life Scale, the Rosenberg SelfEsteem Scale, General Anxiety Disorder GAD-7 andthe Athens Insomnia Scale. The respondents were 616randomly selected men aged 20 to 64, currently healthyand not addicted to alcohol.Results: The average score of the respondents in theBeck's Depression Inventory was 30.8, and 97.4% ofthem suggested mild or moderate depression. Theaverage score according to the Gotland MaleDepression Scale was 23.0, and for 95.5% of therespondents, it suggested possible or highly probabledepression. On the De Jong Gierveld Loneliness Scale,the average values were 33.4 points (quite severeloneliness). On the Generalised Self-Efficacy Scale bySchwarzer et al, the average score of the respondents was 33.4 points (a quite high average self-efficacy).The average score of the men according to the HealthBehaviour Inventory was 66.9 points (low level ofhealth behaviours), according to the Satisfaction WithLife Scale, 18.6 points (average satisfaction with life),according to the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale 30.4points (relatively good self-esteem), of the GeneralAnxiety Disorder - 15.7 points (possibility of exacerbation of the symptoms of generalized anxietydisorder) and according to the Athens Insomnia Scale7.0 points (borderline normal).Conclusions: Most respondents were at risk ofdepression. Significant factors contributing to the riskof depression include age, marital status, place ofliving, flatmates, education, financial standing, level ofloneliness, generalised anxiety, satisfaction with life,preferred health behaviours, sleeping problems, level ofself-esteem and anxiety, and self-efficacy. Significantcorrelations were found between early diagnosis ofdepression/anxiety disorders and identification of therisk of depression. Adiet plan known as intermittent fasting (IF) calls foreating habits that involve prolonged periods of lowor no-calorie intake. The morphology, architecture,vasculature, and cognition of the brain are known tochange as the organism ages. Oxidative stressplays a crucial role in the aging of the brain. Theeffects of oxidative stress include mitochondrialdysfunction, protein modification, membrane lipidperoxidation, nuclear DNA oxidation, and mitochondrial and mitochondrial DNA oxidation.These effects hasten brain aging, neuronal loss, andcognitive impairment. Cognitive ability, long-termmemory, and dementia are improved by CR andIF, which are beneficial for brain andneurodegenerative illnesses. The presented reviewarticle explores recent findings on how two dietaryapproaches, CR and IF, can support healthy agingand improve brain function. We will also explorehow the most studied CR mimetics affect aging andhow they might be used as treatments to promoteneuroprotection.","PeriodicalId":138155,"journal":{"name":"Progress in Health Sciences","volume":"99 17","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139387902","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Modern men's approach to parenting hasalso changed.Aim of the study: To examine why men participatein antenatal classes, how they perceive these classes,and whether participation and perception are influenced by the duration of marriage, men's age, education, and place of residence.Material and methods: The study included twogroups of 200 men who would become fathers thefollowing year and attended a birthing school(groupI) and those who would become fathers the followingyear and did not attend a birthing school(group II).The researchers used a diagnostic survey methodbased on a self-authorship survey consisting of ageneral part, a Questionnaire for EmpathicUnderstanding of Other People(KRE), and a CopingInventory for Stress Situations(CISS)Results: Only 138(34.5%) of the surveyed men fromboth groups participated in the previous childbirth oftheir wives or partners. Previously, 118(29.5%) ofthe surveyed men from both groups participated inantenatal classes. Most study subjects learned abouta birthing school from their wives: 248(58.8%). Thelevel of empathy in both groups was also assessed.The study subjects attending a birthing school mostoften presented a high level of empathy(92.5%), while those who did not participate had a lowlevel(61.5%). The analysis of a stress-coping styleshowed significant differences only in task-orientedcoping: it was used to the greatest extent by the menwho attended a birthing school. The men in group IImost often evaluated their knowledge of pregnancyand childbirth as low: 101(50.5%). The men fromgroup II paid more attention to knowledge gainedfrom TV than those from group I(37.5% vs. 34.5%).The majority of the subjects attending a birthingschool(97.8%) would recommend other fathers toparticipate in antenatal classesConclusions: Most often, when the men decided toparticipate in antenatal classes, they desired toprepare for the care of a baby, acquire knowledge ofmedical issues, and develop the ability to supporttheir wives/partners. Participation in antenatalclasses was more often declared by those who hadbeen in a relationship for up to one year or more thantwo years, did not have children, and had a universitydegree.
