Phasor measurement units (PMUs) provide valuable instantaneous information regarding power system stability and security, and thus have the potential to improve the reliability of the state estimator. Also, measured synchrophasors can be used for transmission line impedance estimation, which results in more accurate power system state estimation, in comparison with the traditional approach that uses catalogue values of the transmission line impedance.","PeriodicalId":136720,"journal":{"name":"Eurocon 2013","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129969494","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed technique is able to quickly calculate voltages at load busses, as well as reactive power injections at generation busses, using the results of a preliminary ordinary DC load flow. Due to the extremely reduced computational time, this technique can be successfully used for fast reliability assessments, when a huge number of load flow scenarios, generated by a probabilistic approach like Monte Carlo techniques, must be analyzed in terms of voltage violations; the algorithm is also promising for Optimal Reactive Power Flow procedures. Two case studies, based on the IEEE RTS-96 and Poland transmission and sub-transmission network, confirm a speed-up of more than 6 times respect to the Newton-Raphson algorithm, while keeping the mean squared error of voltages within 0.5% and the maximum voltage error below 1.5% of the voltage limits.","PeriodicalId":136720,"journal":{"name":"Eurocon 2013","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131336174","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The different steps of the design of these controllers are presented together with its simulation. The performance comparison between sliding mode controller and P&O controller has been carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of sliding mode controller to draw much energy and a fast response against change in working conditions. In this paper the understanding and the good modeling of any system allowed us to create an algorithm which is applied in any programming software in our case M-file of MATLAB, the use of M-file presents many advantages like a short time of simulation.","PeriodicalId":136720,"journal":{"name":"Eurocon 2013","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126658057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results of the clustering procedure are then used to group the customers into classes by identifying a suitable set of attributes describing each class in a non-overlapping way. Starting from an initial set of centroids, it is possible to construct a clustering algorithm to upgrade the clustering results by refining the initial centroids. The Electrical Pattern Ant Colony Clustering (EPACC) method recently introduced by the authors, based on ant colony clustering principles, has been shown to outperform the classical k-means for electrical load pattern clustering based on an initial centroid model. This paper illustrates the genesis of the EPACC algorithm by providing additional information on how the method parameters have been chosen and set up. Examples are taken from a case study application with actual load patterns.","PeriodicalId":136720,"journal":{"name":"Eurocon 2013","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121559770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Medium-voltage electricity distribution network has two voltage levels. These are 10 kV and 35 kV voltage levels. Connection of the new distributed energy source to the surrounding 10 kV distribution network is not optimal, because there is not enough demand for total generated electricity. Also, distribution to distant consumers has no justification. Geothermal power plant could be successfully connected to the medium distribution power network by construction of new medium-voltage cables. Results of analysis and calculations showed that connection to 10 kV electricity distribution network is not a good choice, because it does not provide a reliable, safe and efficient supply of produced electricity. On the other side, connection with two 35 kV cables to the adjacent 35/10 kV substations turned out to be the best and optimal solution for geothermal power plant connection.","PeriodicalId":136720,"journal":{"name":"Eurocon 2013","volume":"87 21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126301251","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, user requirements for flexible cloud computing resources impact the overall performance of the cloud. From the other side, virtualization adds additional layer in cloud stack and therefore decreases the service performance compared to on-premise traditional hosting. It seems that the price to pay for scalability and flexibility is not so small. Therefore, in order to improve the overall cloud performance and make it sustainable there is need for real-time resource orchestration. Considering the heterogeneous architecture of the cloud, CSPs must develop appropriate strategy to achieve maximum performance minimizing the utilization of hardware resources and energy consumption. In this paper, we propose a novel Low Level Load balancing (L3B) approach applied to Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). Our approach preserves the cloud's elasticity by dynamic activation of cloud resources and load balancing the traffic over the resources on low network level. In addition, our L3B balancer tends to load the instances in the region where they provide maximum performance. Introducing L3B improves the overall cloud performance, reduces power consumption and customers' cost for renting cloud resources, etc.","PeriodicalId":136720,"journal":{"name":"Eurocon 2013","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125740313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, WSNs provide a number of advantages to ecoinformatics such as the possibility of constructing quality datasets that coupled to machine learning-based prediction systems, can be used for ecological and process modelling. In this manuscript, we present a survey on recent WSNs based on several fields related to environmental research e.g. ecoinformatics, precision agriculture and wildlife observation.
