However, photo quality uploaded by hotel guests may not meet the professional photo quality, which in turn could impact user experience of potential travelers. Thus, this study investigates how Malaysian travelers perceive the importance of photo gallery and their emotional responses toward different types of photo. A low fidelity prototype of the photo gallery tablet application was developed. Fourteen Malaysian participants took part in this preliminary study. Results of eye-tracking data and cued retrospective think aloud showed that Malaysian participants gave positive emotion responses in less than 1 minute and half of the participants fixated on both professional photo and traveler photo. Professional photo had more influence on participants' attitude toward the hotel and perceived room quality compared to traveler photo. Participants also agreed that photo gallery is important for them.","PeriodicalId":136616,"journal":{"name":"2014 3rd International Conference on User Science and Engineering (i-USEr)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130286994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The success of an e-learning tool relies primarily on the level of acceptance of the tool by the e-learners and their state of emotion while using the tool. Therefore, addressing e-learner's emotional competences is important to understand the implicit emotion of the young minds. In this context, virtual agents are expected to play the role of instructors in a virtual learning environment. This paper aims to study the affective design of the Virtual Agent in terms of attractiveness and realism that adopts Kansei Engineering, an emerging technology used to explore and validate the emotion structure defined as a complex state of feelings that can result in the changes of human behaviour and thoughts of e-learners. Adding on, the paper also highlights and validates the six universal emotions such as anger, happiness, surprise, disgust, sadness and fear. The findings suggest that the most attractive and realistic virtual agents have higher Kansei value. Some implications of the findings in relation to expert-like virtual agent design and Kansei are discussed in this paper.","PeriodicalId":136616,"journal":{"name":"2014 3rd International Conference on User Science and Engineering (i-USEr)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129912079","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wayang Kulit (WK) is unlikely to last long due to lack of safeguarding. The traditional WK has a great potential to be incorporated into a digital L&T Mathematics (dLTM) in primary school. This is intended to create a fun and appealing method in the process of learning mathematics. Henceforward, we proposed a conceptual framework that illustrates how digital WK helps students learn mathematics. We explored and developed a digital WK by integrating the core elements of WK into L&T mathematics environment. In order to support the engagement and entertainment in dLTM, the needs for effective interaction design with five attributes of Interaction Design (IxD) theory are added. Afterwards, the survey questions based on Usefulness, Satisfaction, and Ease of Use (USE) were distributed to measure the performance of dLTM. A framework that mapped WK in a dLTM environment, including the useful (79%) and satisfying (83.4%) consequences for such undertaking and endeavor, was also conferred. The result showed that the students perceived high satisfaction towards the proposed digital WK.","PeriodicalId":136616,"journal":{"name":"2014 3rd International Conference on User Science and Engineering (i-USEr)","volume":"201 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133787915","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Following from this interest, two major approaches to shared cognition have emerged: social-based shared cognition and shared situation awareness-based cognition. Social-based shared cognition can be described as the extent to which dyads and groups possess, create and utilize social aspects of cognition that involve coordination between individuals, artefacts and the environment. Shared situation awareness-based cognition is distinct from that of the social-based type in that it refers to shared cognition in a team with the same interpretation of ongoing events, based on shared situation awareness requirements. While a number of conceptual models and frameworks have been formulated for team cognition in human-computer interaction, the appropriate use of shared cognitive models has eluded researchers. The main aim of this paper is to describe the kinds of shared cognitive models that belong to both the social-based and shared situation awareness-based approaches. The secondary aim is to differentiate both shared cognitive approaches based on seven distinguishing properties: the main underlying theoretical foundation, core essence, general purpose, shared cognition models, domain application, types of cognitive environment and types of cognitive systems and applications. The design implications for team cognitive research in human-computer interaction are discussed. For HCI researchers interested in studying team cognition, this work shows the ways of selecting the appropriate shared cognitive models for specific types of systems and applications.","PeriodicalId":136616,"journal":{"name":"2014 3rd International Conference on User Science and Engineering (i-USEr)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133358710","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
