Subjects and Methods : A total of 120 specimens were made and divided into four groups, (n=30) for each group. Group A, control group made of conventional heat cured PMMA with no reinforcement. Specimens of the other groups were reinforced by the rubber modified MMT composite with different percentages (2%, 4% and 8%) by weight. Group B (2% composite), group C (4% composite) and group D (8% composite). All specimens were evaluated as regard impact strength, transverse strength, water sorption, hardness, and roughness. Results: The results of this study revealed that, impact strength values of acrylic resin denture base were increase after the addition of rubber MMT –composite at any ratio. After addition of 2% rubber MMT-composite the flexure strength was nearly similar to that of control group. While, a significant reduction occurred after adding 4% and 8% composites. Water sorption was significantly increased by the addition of 4% and 8% of rubber –MMT composite ( P < 0.05). There was a significant decrease in the micro hardness after the addition of 4% and 8 % composite, while insignificant decrease occurred with 2% ratio. As regards to surface roughness there was significant increase in the surface roughness values after addition of rubber –MMT composite for all ratios (P < 0.05). Conclusion : The most favorable properties were observed by the addition of 2% rubber –MMT acrylic composite to the heat-cured acrylic resin . However, PMMA denture base material has drawbacks such as insufficient surface hardness, low flexure and impact strength. Clinically, failure of complete or partial denture prosthesis is most","PeriodicalId":136230,"journal":{"name":"Al-Azhar Assiut Dental Journal","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133420640","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Subjects and methods : twenty patients having isolated hopeless teeth indicated for extraction followed by immediate dental implant placement following phase I therapy were classified into two groups, Group I: received extraction of the desired teeth combined with immediate dental implants placement, and Group II: received extraction of the desired teeth combined with immediate dental implants placement followed by applications of low level laser. Clinical and radiographic parameters were recorded at base line, 3 and 6 months post treatment and biochemical assessment of OPG level in GCF base line, 2,4,12 weeks. Results: The use of Low Level Laser (LLL) seemed to be an effective adjunctive therapy in improving probing depth, marginal bone level and osteoprotegrin (OPG) level around immediately placed dental implant. Subjects and Methods : Sixteen completely edentulous patients aged 50 to 60 years old were selected for this study. According to the treatment protocol, the patient had a mandibular implant-retained overdenture at the canine area, and the patients were randomly divided into two equal groups. Group 1: Eight patients had two mandibular implant-retained overdentures with equator attachments, and group 2: Eight patients with ball and socket attachments. The bone density is measured in greyscale (Hounsfield units) using a partial scan Cone Beam Computed Tomography (pCBCT) after one week (baseline), six, twelve, and eighteen months of the insertion of the attachment. The mean values of bone density were compared between two groups, and between the different times within each group. Comparison between the two groups was made using an independent t-test, and multiple comparisons between times were made by one-way ANOVA with posthoc turkey test (p< 0.05). Results: The results didn’t show any statistically significant difference between groups during all the follow-up times. Within each group, the readings were statistically significant from the baseline and with each other. Conclusions : The results of this study showed that the bone density around the implant overdenture increased significantly with time irrespective of the type of attachment used.","PeriodicalId":136230,"journal":{"name":"Al-Azhar Assiut Dental Journal","volume":"154 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122502235","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The duration of orthodontic treatment is the primary concern of almost all the patients. Therefore, this increases the demand to find the best method to increase the rate of tooth movement with the least possible disadvantages. Subjects and Methods : This prospective randomized clinical study was conducted on a total sample of 32 orthodontic patients recommended for upper first premolar extraction as part of their orthodontic treatment plan. The patient ages were ranged from (16-26) years. Patients were assigned to (Group I) single slot bracket, (Group II) double slot bracket. Results: Regarding the post-treatment value, a significantly higher mean value was recorded for Canine Vertical Tipping Angle in single slot bracket group (12.65±6.15), in comparison to double slot bracket group (7.31±2.71), (p=0.00). Canine Cusp Retraction Distance showed a non-significant higher value in double slot bracket group (p=0.30). This prospective study was designed to evaluate three-dimensional (3-D) alveolar ridge augmentation through two stages surgical approach, using vertical alveolar distraction osteogenesis (VADO) followed by onlay sticky bone covered by collagen membrane, for augmentation of the atrophic alveolar ridge to facilitate implant installation. Subjects and Methods: Ten patients with atrophic alveolar ridge were treated by VADO. After bone consolidation the distractors were removed, implants were inserted, sticky bone graft was packed at buccal aspect, and covered by guided tissue regeneration (GTR) membrane. The implants were loaded after three months of its placement. Clinical evaluation was done to assess wound healing and implant stability. Also, the following parameters were evaluated on orthopantomography and cone–beam computed tomography; relapse in the distracted bone, crestal bone loss around the implant and bone density around the implant. All data was statistical analysed. Results: Mean vertical bone gain was 6.5 mm (range 5-8 mm), and the mean width gain was 4 mm ( range 3-5mm). There was 100% survival rate of all implants. There was significant decrease in the mean bone height throughout all periods. Also, significant improvement in bone density around the implant was reported along follow up periods. Conclusion: VADO followed by onlay sticky bone graft with GTR can be successfully performed to gain proper 3-D measurements of alveolar ridge that are essential for ideal implant installation in severe atrophic mandibular alveolar ridge.","PeriodicalId":136230,"journal":{"name":"Al-Azhar Assiut Dental Journal","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125636240","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
