Subjects and methods: This study was performed on 20 sites from 20 patients who each received an immediate implant for a single tooth replacement at a maxillary anterior or premolar site. Patients were divided into two groups according to the augmented materials used. One group received an immediate implant and filling of defects using Beta Tri Calcium Phosphate/Collagen bone graft covered with PRF membrane. The other group received an immediate implant and filling of defects with Beta Tri Calcium Phosphate/Collagen covered with collagen membrane. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) was taken before placement, and at 6 and 12 months post-surgery. Results: Both treatment procedures resulted in significant improvements for the primary outcome regarding bone fill as well as thickness and height of buccal bone. In addition, statistically significant differences were found in the buccal bone height, thickness and bone density for the group treated with Beta Tri Calcium Phosphate/Collagen combined with collagen membrane compared with sites treated with Beta Tri Calcium Phosphate/Collagen combined with PRF membrane .Conclusion: Beta Tri Calcium Phosphate/Collagen combined with collagen membrane is significantly superior than Beta Tri Calcium Phosphate/Collagen combined with PRF membrane in treatment of buccal bone dehiscence during immedite implant placement INTRODUCTION Implant therapy is widely regarded as a reliable treatment option to replace missing teeth, for both function and esthetics.1, 2 Original implant treatment guidelines advocated 3-6 months waiting period after tooth extraction to allow for soft and hard tissue healing before placing an implant, which was followed by an additional","PeriodicalId":136230,"journal":{"name":"Al-Azhar Assiut Dental Journal","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124439752","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Subjects & methods: Twenty-eight patients were selected from Outpatient clinics seeking Orthodontic treatment, Faculty of Dental Medicine, Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt. A self-administrated questionnaire was prepared covering oral hygiene practice, oral hygiene cleaning aids and previous oral prophylaxis. Oral health status of each patient was assessed using: Gingival bleeding index (GBI), Plaque index (PI), Oral Hygiene Index (OHI-S) which performed for each patient 3; prior to, during and after orthodontic treatment termination. Measurement of probing pocket depth (PPD) and radiographic examination were done before treatment and 3 months following treatment termination. Results: No significant difference was observed between mean PI & GBI recorded before orthodontic treatment(T1) and that measured three months (T4) following treatment completion but there were significant differences between these measurements during treatment with both before and after treatment; no significant difference between males and females. PPD recorded no differences between any evaluation times. OHI-S recorded higher scores during treatment period with statistically significant difference when compared with recorded scores initially; however, it did not differ significantly with that of at after 3 from orthodontic termination. Conclusion: Dental plaque accumulation among orthodontic patients can aid in development of gingival and dental effects, as it seems likely that orthodontic appliances have potentiality to increase oral microbial population. Orthodontic patients should be monitored and motivated for proper oral hygiene to avoid risk of new caries and periodontal diseases.","PeriodicalId":136230,"journal":{"name":"Al-Azhar Assiut Dental Journal","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132595895","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Subjects and Methods: The present study composed of 26 patients (males, females) aged between 12-18 years who had deep bite and need maxillary incisors intrusion. They were randomly selected and divided into two group: anterior miniimplant group (AMG) and posterior mini-implant group (PMG). In the AMG, approximately 40 g of force was applied per side with elastic chains and in the PMG, with beta-titanium wires with modification of three pieces intrusive arch. This study was conducted on cone beam computed tomography scans taken before intrusion and after 18 weeks of intrusion. Results: The incisors showed a significant reduction in length, this amount was greater in AMG than PMG. Conclusion: Posterior miniimplants assisted maxillary incisors intrusion show less root resorption than anterior mini-implant assisted maxillary incisor intrusion. INTRODUCTION Deep bites can affect a person’s esthetic appearance and smile. Anterior deep bites caused by overeruption of the maxillary incisors can be determined by using lateral cephalometric radiographs. If the lower lip covers more than 4 mm of the maxillary central incisors on a patient’s lateral Cephalometric radiographs, it is the result of maxillary incisor overeruption.(1) Orthodontic treatment often includes the correction of a deep overbite.(2, 3) depending on the diagnosis and treatment objectives, deep overbites can be corrected by intruding the maxillary or mandibular incisors, extruding the buccal segments, or a combination of these. In recent years, the integration of mini-implants into intrusion mechanics has been proposed as an alternative technique to conventional mechanics, which have side effects on anchorage segments such as","PeriodicalId":136230,"journal":{"name":"Al-Azhar Assiut Dental Journal","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116891690","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Subjects and methods: The sample of this study consists of sixty extracted sound human premolar teeth that were divided into three wire groups and three fiber-reinforced composite groups. In wire and fiber-reinforced composite groups, one group is bonded with control conventional composite and two groups bonded using different types of flowable composites. Each sample was etched, bonded and then inserted into the universal testing machine. The resulted data were collected and then analyzed to obtain the mean values of shear bond strength of each sample. Results: In wire groups, the results demonstrated that the difference between groups was statistically non-significant (p value>0.05) as indicated by one way ANOVA. In FRC groups, the results demonstrated that the difference between groups was statistically significant (p value>0.05) as indicated by one way ANOVA. There was a statistically significant difference between conventional composite and Tetric-N flowable composite when used, respectively. Conclusion: In all FRC groups the results of shear bond strength were less than the results of wire groups. It was found that the FRC weakens instead of strengthens the fiber/composite complex. INTRODUCTION Retention is usually necessary following orthodontic treatment to overcome the elastic recoil of the periodontal supporting fibers and to allow remodeling of the alveolar bone. With the possibility of acid etching and bonding, it has become common practice to apply bonded fixed retainers for long-term retention of the achieved orthodontic results.(1) Bonded lingual retainers are fabricated in various designs that consist of combinations of different wires in different sizes and different composites.(2) Spiral or multistrand wires appear to be the most popular for direct bonded retainers. Subjects and methods: twenty systemically healthy patients with partial edentulous narrow maxillary alveolar ridges were selected from those attending at the Out-Patient Clinic, Oral Medicine and Periodontology Department, Faculty of Dental Medicine, Al-Azhar University, Assiut Branch. Then they divided randomly into the following equal groups. First Group, ten patients with partial edentulous narrow maxillary anterior alveolar ridges, treated by piezoelectric ridge splitting and expansion with simultaneous implant placement into their ridges. Second Group, ten patients with partial edentulous narrow maxillary anterior alveolar ridges treated by piezoelectric ridge splitting and expansion with simultaneous implant placement into their ridges; combined with application of nanocrystallin hydroxyapatite bone graft mixed with platelet rich fibrin (PRF). Patients were evaluated clinically to assess probing depth and implant stability quotient, and radiographically to assess the alveolar ridge width, marginal bone loss, and bone density measurement parameters at baseline, 6, 9, and 12 months. Results: Among the studded groups, there is a high statistically significant difference between the clinical and radiographic measurements. Conclusion: Usage of combination of nanocrystallin hydroxyapatite bone graft and platelet rich fibrin as a grafting materials around the implant after narrow alveolar ridge splitting and expansion by piezoelectric surgery appeared significantly superior to immediate implant placement alone. Subjects and Methods: 40 patients requiring endodontic treatment for single rooted teeth were enrolled in this analysis. The selected patients were separated into two groups with 20 patients each; Group І: Propolis paste. Group II: Ca (OH)2 paste. The local anesthesia was administrated, and the working length determined by Root ZX apex locator, and then confirmed radiographically. The root canals were mechanically prepared in a crowndown approach using the “TF Adaptive” setting on Elements Motor. TF Adaptive Green ML1 file (Medium Large) and Yellow ML2 size 35 taper 4% until the file reaches wanted length. Intracanal medicaments of the two groups were placed inside the canals and left for a week. Then the obturation was done in the second visit. Postoperative pain was judged by visual analogue scale (VAS) after 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours. Results: The pain intensity showed that there was no statistically noteworthy difference concerning the two groups. Conclusions: Propolis is an effective and safe intracanal medication that can be used to reduce post-operative pain in necrotic teeth. INTRODUCTION Pain and related suffering are globally relevant topics for health-care providers (1), Pain of endodontic origin is widely feared by the public (2), but only 17% of subjects experiencing root canal treatment described it as their most painful dental experience (3). Root canal therapy lowers pain incidence although immediate post-treatment pain severity may sometimes exceed the pretreatment sternness levels. Current inflammatory processes or apical instrumentation especially with former peri radicular inflammation may cause this (4). Post-operative pain predominance at 24 hours was 40% and markedly decreased during the first 2 days after treatment, dropping to 10% or less after 7 days. Subjects and Methods: 120 CBCT of bilaterally maxillary sinuses of adult Egyptians of both sexes with ages ranging from 20 to 50 years were randomly selected. Then CBCT images were grouped according to gender, age and side. Three measurements in millimeters (width, depth, height), were taken on the axial and coronal cross sections. Results: Right and left height was statistically significant difference in male group than in female group (P<0.005). There was not statistically significant difference in dimensions between any age group and any another age group. It was difference between right and left sides of maxillary sinus, but this difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion: mean values of maxillary sinuses dimensions of males were found to be larger than these of females and this difference was statistically significant only for height dimensions. INTRODUCTION Maxillary sinus is a pneumatic space with its base adjacent to the nasal wall and apex pointing to the zygoma. It is the largest bilateral air sinus located in the body of the maxilla and opens in the middle nasal meatus of the nasal cavity with single or multiple openings. It varies greatly in size, shape, and position not only in different individuals (1) Maxillary sinus is located in the left and right maxillary bones and consists of two air filled cavities lined with mucosa. Maxillary sinus tends to appear at the end of the second embryonic month and complete by the age of 18 to 20 years.
