This negative emotional state hurdles the learners from starting to practice the target language with native speakers, their instructors, and their peer learners. The immersive learning environment provided through Virtual Reality (VR) technology enables students to start orally practicing the target language without directly facing the real audience at the beginning of their learning journey. In this panel, it is projected to present the possibility of applying VR language learning tools for students to practice speaking in a low-anxiety immersive environment for multiple languages: English, French, and Chinese. With four panelists, the possible tools, their affordance, appropriate instructional design, and activities suitable for VR delivery in the foreign language classroom will be discussed.","PeriodicalId":136196,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Immersive Learning Research Network","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126674058","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hybrid creativity in participatory media culture meets agency beyond physical limitations. Yet, with strong affective and multi-sensorial stimulation, it is vital to match learners` heterogeneous abilities and preconditions. This workshop is addressing art educators as well as XR-platform designers for joint interdisciplinary perspectives. How do platforms engage or inhibit creative potential? How accessible and safe are SocialVR environments for creative purposes? We suggest a classification of SocialVR scenarios in art education and respective quality criteria. The criteria stretch from accessibility, room for creativity and aesthetic flexibility to ethical implications.","PeriodicalId":136196,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Immersive Learning Research Network","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117115395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Evelien Ydo will present on performance-based assessment (PBA) and simulation-based assessment (SBA) using virtual reality. Dr. Diego Zapata-Rivera’s presentation will focus on conducting adaptive, embedded assessments that leverage the virtual presence of experts, teachers, and observers, and interactions with virtual agents and virtual objects. Dr. Mathew Hillier will present on the \"Transforming Assessment Project\", that includes the use of unique software tools and augmented reality. Dr. Michael Casale will present on innovations in work-based assessment and industry training.","PeriodicalId":136196,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Immersive Learning Research Network","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131124419","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The workshop will begin by outlining methods for capturing digital media in-situ, establishing the ‘ground truth’ of a place as both teaching preparation and as a learning activity in its own right. The workshop will then demonstrate how data captured in physical locations can be incorporated into online 3D models that can be experienced as a ‘virtual field trip’ in social virtual reality (VR). This activity highlights the student’s constitutive role in the selection and capture of data representing their environment and encourages active learning through engagement with the creation of IVEs. Workshop participants will be taken on a virtual expedition into one such model to stimulate further discussion about how these environments can be used to promote active learning. While the session focuses on the use of captured media to establish the ground truth of a location, the session will also consider the further potential of social IVEs as opportunities for storytelling, repositories of shared experience, and as a means for imagining and experimenting with counter-factual histories and alternative futures.","PeriodicalId":136196,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Immersive Learning Research Network","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123514418","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
