It is becoming a very important matter in the automotive field. Indeed, car industries are planning to replace the traditional mechanical-hydraulic apparatus used for the execution of the driving commands with all-electric systems, the so-called drive-by-wire (DbW) systems, which are made of components that are not as reliable as the ones of the traditional apparatus. This paper, starting from the existing literature, provides at first a conceptual framework for the dependability topic. Then dependable architectures for DbW systems are presented. As a case of study, the steering maneuver is considered.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. The synthesized control algorithm achieves motor speed control, constant flux control and field orientation control via an optimized input vector command contains the synchronous angular speed and the two components of the stator voltage space vector in the synchronous reference frame. The input vector command is realized by generating sector dependent digital words represent the SVPWM switching patterns on the DAC digital lines therefore, the storage memory is minimized and the saw tooth carrier generator is eliminated. The novel error system used in building the optimal preview controller can cure the adverse phenomena caused by parameter uncertainty and unmodeled dynamics. Also few future values of the desired and disturbance signal improve the transient response of the drive system. Extensive experimental results have been carried out to show the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed control system.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. Manually performed, this work is strenuous and slow, with a high risk of injury-only an automated process is able to meet the requirements of economic efficiency, plant availability and operational safety. In this paper a fully automatic solution developed by ARC Seibersdorf Research GmbH is presented. This solution mainly consisting of a gantry robot system equipped with an external sensor system for rod recognition. Beside a description of the system components and the operation principle, the paper gives some details about the operational parameters of the system. The non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) is used to minimize the error between the current and velocity responses of data and an estimated model. The robustness of the method is shown by estimating parameters of a DC motor in four different cases. Simulation results show that the method successfully estimates the motor parameters and is also capable of identifying a load torque simultaneously.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. In this work an improvement of the electronic injection, based at the moment on cartographic methods, by means of the application of neural networks is presented. The neural networks allow to adjust the values obtained to each exact point of operation, forgetting the intermediate steps of the previous methods or another approach that are not adjusted to the ideal function. In addition the proposal reduces considerably the number of data that are necessary to store for very exact controls based on cartographies pre-calculated. On the other hand this approach opens the doors to intelligent systems in the own injection control, that by means of self-learning, will obtain improvements in the methods to obtain the data of the engine operation and their direct and instantaneous interaction on the engine. In this manner, it is possible to achieve that the injection be accurate during all the engine lifetime.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. Some methods have been used effectively for many years, both at generating plants and in transmission network. In this paper, two methods are proposed to improve control stability. The first consists to find the critical clearing time (CCT) by equal area stability criterion and numerical integration. The second interests to fuzzy logic controllers. For this last method, we present the nonlinear model with a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model. Then a model-based in fuzzy controller design utilizing the concept of the so-called \"parallel distributed compensation\" (PDC) is employed. Stability analysis and control design problems can be reduced to linear matrix inequality (LMI) problems. Therefore, they can be solved efficiently in practice by convex programming techniques for LMI's. A single machine infinite bus system is analysed with the proposed methods.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004.
