Compared to conventional buck or boost converters, this topology allows a low current ripple at the input for a relatively low level of the DC-bus voltage. Consequently, the high frequency filter needed at the AC-side of a buck converter is avoided, and the high voltage stresses applied on the switches are significantly reduced with respect to the boost converter. The converter is integrated as a power factor correction circuit at the DC-end of a single-phase diode bridge. Based on the averaged model of the converter, a pulse-width-modulated (PWM) control algorithm is developed in order to ensure a unity power factor at the AC-source side and a regulated voltage at the DC-load side. In order to verify the performance of the proposed control scheme, simulation experiments are carried out on a numerical version of the converter with its control circuit. The implemented model of the converter is obtained by using the switching function technique under the assumption of the most general case of a discontinuous current mode (DCM). The control system is tested under both rated and disturbed operating conditions. The system performance is evaluated in terms of source current total harmonic distortion (THD), voltage regulation, robustness and dynamic time response to a set point offset.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. This work presents the design of the proposed distributed system, describing the nodes architecture, communications system, control strategies, etc. as well as the chemical implementation aspects, such as selection of parameters to be monitored, analysis techniques, acceptable values, and so on. From the chemical point of view, the parameters to be controlled and their acceptable levels are based on the current legislation. As for the methods of analysis for the detection of pollutants, well-known electrochemical methods are proposed. The communication among the nodes that form the distributed system is implemented by means of the utilization of data transmission services (like GPRS) provided by a mobile telephone operator. The information is processed, integrated and stored in a control centre. Messina","doi":"10.1109/ICIT.2004.1490216","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ICIT.2004.1490216","url":null,"abstract":"Previous works about robotic arm for the automatic harvesting of an agricultural crop of quality small plants (red radicchio), were mainly concerned about the study of the control system for pneumatic actuators moving the robotic arm. The choice of pneumatic actuators was due to their physical favourable characteristics for positioning applications. The main problem of this choice was linked to non-linear behaviour of pneumatic systems. This non-linearity makes accurate position control of a pneumatic actuator difficult to achieve. A recent trend developed the use of inexpensive on/off solenoid valves to control pneumatic actuator systems. Furthermore, the use of pulse width modulated signals (PWM) across the power devices reduces control problems such as dead band and stiction. The results ensure the possibility of following a desired trajectory using potentiometer feedback and a PI controller with parameters tuned in an iterative way. This paper shows experimental results carried out considering a vision feedback obtained with a cheap cam mounted on the top of end-effector. This vision feedback is processed in order to localise the plant position along the movement plane of the robotic arm end-effector. A kinematical model of the robotic arm defines each actuator trajectory to lead end-effector to grasp the plant in the taking plane according to the vision feedback. The goal is to demonstrate the possibilities offered by system-on-chip programmable devices in specific processing systems, where the costs make the use of specific integrated circuits unaffordable. PSoC circuits built by Cypress Microsystems includes all the components necessary to built classical acquisition circuits based-on-ADC as, also, to include actual and powerful frequency-based acquisition circuitry inside the component. This opportunity is exploited in the paper in order to compare both data acquisition methodologies. Moreover, the frequency-based data acquisition method implemented in the circuit is based on a voltage to frequency-code converter and uses the indirect count methodology. This conversion method produces a very versatile, precise and scalable structure for data acquisition. Also, it has been demonstrated that the powerful Cypress/sup /spl trade// Programmable System on Chip (PSoC/sup /spl trade//) platform, results in a perfect way to acquire, condition, multiplex, process and transmit external analogue data to different external processors, liberating the main processor of tedious works while allowing the system to spend time on processing instead of capturing data.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. It can be concluded from experimental and simulation results that the proposed model is adequate to simulate the dynamic behaviour of the lamp. Simulation studies are presented in order to describe the modification of the lamp v-i characteristics produced by the variation of the operating frequency. These events are generated by equipment or machines in a plant. Event states are modeled using statecharts and colored Petri nets, which were used also for simulating the proposed system. In our lab test a small network is set-up, which represents a federated control system consisting of (simulated) equipment generating events, a server brokering between event producers and consumers and mobile phones, which are the consumer of events and that are used to respond to events using SMS messaging. The testbed simulates equipment or machines in a factory or plant, which under normal circumstances operate stand-alone or with minimal supervision of an operator. In case of failure, these machines require immediate response from a service engineer, as the operation of the machine within the factory or plant is mission-critical and thus demands a minimum downtime (as will be the case when there are abnormalities, failures or events).
