One of the techniques used, is the fuzzy logic control which is characterized by robustness and insensitivity to the parameters variation. In this paper, the technique is applied for the design of a drive system fed from indirect power electronics conversion. The adaptive fuzzy controller (AFC) is applied in all regulation loops, starting from speed regulation of permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) until the minimization of harmonics introduced by the line converter, including the control of power factor and DC-link voltage. We study the robustness of the controller using simulation results for different operating modes and parameters variation.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. The determination of the propagation velocity of the sound waves makes possible to deduce the physical and chemical characteristics of the sample such as density, compressibility coefficients and viscosity. The ultrasonic velocity, which depends on the temperature, is one of the most employed parameters in these techniques. We use in this work the flight time to determine the ultrasonic velocity. An electronic device has been developed using a microcontroller (/spl mu/C) of the ST62xx family, DS0026 high-speed MOS driver, AD590 sensor and Peltier thermo electric cooler, for the temperature control of an ultrasonic cell. The microcontroller has a clock of 8. We programmed this timer to generate an alternative impulse of a 0.2 /spl mu/s width and a 1 ms period. Two ultrasonic transducers having 5 MHz resonance frequency have been used to send and receive the electronic impulse through a liquid medium. The two piezo-electric transducers constitute the normal bases of the ultrasonic cell. Data-processing programs were developed and charged in the microcontroller, in order to calculate the command law and to generate electronic signals with variable cyclic ratio, which control the power electronics. We use automatic algorithms, to have a precision on the temperature measurement of about 0.1 /spl deg/C. We present acoustic velocity measurements of the agro-alimentary liquids using the realized device.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. The compression ratio is limited by noise, which degrades the correlation between pixels. Noise can occur during image capture, transmission or processing, and may be dependent on or independent of image content. In this study, we use standard filters that permits to remove some details of the image and to reduce all possible noise. After filtering, the image is compressed with JPEG. By discarding the noise, the compression ratio can be improved. This method was verified using 2 images. This technique can increase the ratio without significantly affecting the image quality. This process has a great impact on storage and transmission.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. The unbalance of the different DC voltage sources of the nine-level neutral point clamping (NPC) voltage source inverter (VSI) constituted the major limitation for the uses of this new power converter. In order to stabilizes these DC voltages, we propose in this paper to study the cascade constituted by three phases three-level PWM rectifier-clamping bridge filter-nine-level NPC voltage source inverter (VSI). In the first part, the authors present a topology of nine-level NPC, then they propose a model of this converter and the algebraic PWM strategy to control it. Then in the second part we study the three-level PWM rectifier is controlled by a hysteresis strategy. In the last part of this paper, the authors study the stability problem of the input DC voltages of the inverter. Thus, this cascade allows improving the input voltages of the nine-level NPC inverter. For the solution, the output voltage of the rectifier is not stable. To remedy to this problem, the authors propose a solution which uses a feedback control for this cascade. This study allows finding a solution for the instability problem of the input DC voltages of the inverter. The results obtained with this solution confirm the good performances of the proposed solution. This study shows the effect of the stability of the DC voltages on the PMSM performances. The results obtained are full of promise to use the inverter in high voltage and great power applications as electrical traction.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. The main objective of the studies is to develop techniques and devices to allow a faster set-up, greater flexibility and higher product quality in industrial sewing operations. One of the main aspects of the sewing process is the interlacing of threads-stitch formation. It has been found that the on-line measurement of thread consumption can provide information about stitch adjustment and serve as a feedback variable for thread tension control. In this paper, an overview of this technique will be given, with particular focus on the quantification of bobbin thread consumption in lockstitch machines, one of the most widely used type of machine. In this specific case, measurement is difficult due to lack of physical space for the sensors.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. A simulation-based phase plane approach is used to evaluate the stability of the controller. Simulation and experimental results are presented to demonstrate that the FMRLC exhibits learning abilities as well as the ability to adapt to varying system parameters. In order to cope with such an increase and to keep up designers productivity, higher level specifications were required. Moreover, new synthesis systems, starting with a high level specification, have been developed in order to automate and speed up electronic design. Existing techniques in high-level synthesis mostly assume a simple controller architecture model in the form of a single FSM. However, in reality more complex controller architectures are often used. On the other hand, in the case of programmable processors, the controller architecture is largely defined by the available control-flow instructions in the instruction set. With the wider acceptance of behavioral synthesis, the application of these methods for the design of programmable controllers is of fundamental importance in embedded system technology. This paper describes an important extension of an existing architectural synthesis system targeting the generation of ASIP reprogrammable architectures. The designer can then generate both style of architecture, hardwired and programmable, using the same synthesis system and can quickly evaluate the trade-offs of hardware decisions.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. With a well-designed automated system, the need for operators' supervision is greatly minimised and hence permits the labour cost to be reduced and optimising the repeatability and efficiency of the process done by the system. Thus, the operator may readily and efficiently take real time action on the flow of the process permitting the latter to have an upper hand on the system as the latter may decide his own desirable set points at critical intervals during the sugar boiling process. Using function block diagrams (FBD) and sequential function chart (SFC) as the main programming languages for the PLC and with the appropriate interfacing of the designed system on the SCADA as per the conductor NT manual, a complete centralised control of the automated system for batch vacuum pans is proposed.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004.
