To implement such critical functions, these networks have hard real-time and fault tolerance constraints. There exist two automotive protocol families: event-triggered (e.g. CAN) and time-triggered (e.g. TTP/C). The aim of this paper is to compare these two protocols efficiency using quality of service (QoS) criteria. A methodology based on timed automata modeling (UPPAAL) is used to obtain efficiency measurements. An example of X-by-Wire application (engine control) is used to show impact of network properties on application QoS. The X-by-Wire application QoS gives from application point of view the protocol efficiency.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. An hierarchical modeling approach is proposed, which considers both the effects of different kinds of faults-permanent, transient and common-cause and the interaction between hardware and software components. Stochastic Petri nets are used as the modeling technique to obtain dependability models, with emphasis in the use of analytical/numerical methods to provide model's solutions. In scenarios where its difficult to apply this approach, compact simulation models are derived.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. The rotor flux sliding-mode estimator detects the rotor flux components in the two-phase stationary reference frame using the motor electrical equations. The flux estimation accuracy is guaranteed through the current observer .i.e. the error between the actual current and observed current converges to zero which ensures the accuracy of the flux estimation. In order to achieve a robust speed dynamic response even under severe variation of some key parameters such as rotor resistance/self-inductance, and inertia, a simple design of the scaling factor fuzzy tuning procedure of a fuzzy logic controller (FLC) for speed regulation is proposed. Moreover in order to improve the field-orientation robustness with respect to parameter variation, sliding-mode controller was incorporated for rotor flux regulation. The proposed scheme is recommended for applications requiring robust speed control and field-orientation even in presence of some key parameters deviation. The performance of the suggested scheme has been tested via some simulation results.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. In this work we present a fuzzy model building to make the acceptance/rejection decision for each can end from the information obtained by the vision system. In addition it is interesting to note that such model could be interpreted and supplemented by process operators. In order to achieve such aims, we use a fuzzy model due to its ability to favour the interpretability for many applications. Firstly, the easy open can end manufacturing process, and the current, conventional method for quality control of easy open can end repair coating, are described. Then, we show the machine vision system operations. After that, the fuzzy modeling, results obtained and their discussion are presented. Finally, concluding remarks are stated.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. However just as in the case of the biological brain the mathematical description of the data transformation is hidden. In the case of the human brain the transformation, in terms of rules, may be extracted by interviewing the person, in the case of the artificial neural network other approaches have to be utilized. In the case described here a second neural network that represents the transformation in terms of fuzzy rules is trained using gradient descent. The parameters that are learned are the parameters of the fuzzy sets and also the connection weights in [0, 1] between the outputs of the membership function units and the final output units. There is an output unit for each rule and consequent membership function. The fuzzy output set with the highest membership value is taken to be the output fuzzy set. The extracted rules are of the form if X/sub 0/ is small or X/sub 0/ is Medium and x/sub 1/ is large or X/sub 1/ is medium then y is large X/sub 0/ and X/sub 1/ are inputs and y is the output. The cost measure consists of several terms indicating how close the actual output is to a target output, how close the weights are to 0 and 1, and how close the output of membership values is to a 1 of n vector. The cost measure is a linear combination of these individual terms. By changing the constant multipliers the relative importance of the cost measures can be changed and studied. The method has been tried on randomly generated feedforward neural networks and also on data produced by functions with specific properties. The fuzzy network is trained using data produced by the feedforward neural network or the known function. This method can also be used in extracting rules such as control rules implicitly used by a human if input and output data is gathered from the human.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. A local linear neuro-fuzzy model is used to model SRM. Then a predictive control schema is devised considering an appropriate energy term in the optimization phase. Commutation occurs naturally as an outcome of the predictive control design process, not as an extra step added to the control policy. From a computational view point, we use locally linear model predictive control that with a quadratic cost and linear constraints reduces to a simple quadratic program, which can be solved very fast in a closed form. Simulation studies justify applicability of our proposed method to SRM applications.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004.
