The direct current controller determines the inverter switch state from the current error information with no additional controller and modulator. The drive protection and monitoring is based on the observation of logical control and drive operation critical signals such as heat-sink temperature, DC-link voltage and maximum current. To describe such combination of time and event-driven functionality, drive is considered as discrete-event driven system and a new, matrix based approach to the modeling of discrete event systems is introduced. Modeling of the structure of discrete event-driven system is based on matrix representation of Petri Nets. The discrete dynamics of such a system is described by transferring the system among its specific discrete states, which is denoted using a combination of algebraic and logic equations. To confirm the proposed approach, simulation and experimental results are presented. The proposed algorithm was implemented on FPGA, which is considered as an alternative to the DSP based implementation. Furthermore, some benefits of the FPGA based implementation are presented.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. These two components have widely contributed to reduce the pollutant emission and to improve engine performance. For the control design, a simplified nonlinear model of the diesel engine is considered. This model is linearized around an operating point to design a linear polynomial controller based on the flatness property. The diesel engine variables are completely determined by the planning of the flat output trajectory in a discrete-time framework. The resulting controller is then applied on the nonlinear model initially considered. Simulations results on a real-time electronic test bed show the performance improvement in terms of tracking and robustness.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. Using the proposed approach, a robust controller is designed for building structures under earthquake excitation. When a fuzzy logic control method is used for a structural system, it is hard to get proper control rules directly, and to guarantee the stability and robustness of the fuzzy control system. Generally, the fuzzy controller combined with sliding mode control is applied, but there is still no criterion to reach an optimal design of the FSMC. In this paper, therefore, we design a fuzzy sliding mode controller for the building structure control system as an optimization problem and apply the optimal searching algorithms and GAs to find the optimal rules and membership functions of the FSMC. The proposed approach has the merit to determine the optimal structure and the inference rules of fuzzy sliding mode controller simultaneously. It is found that the building structure under the proposed control method could sustain in safety and stability when the system is subjected to external disturbances.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. The cables connecting the PV panels to the inverter may be a source of electromagnetic emissions generated by the commutations of power electronic devices; these emissions may become radiated disturbances due to the length of the cables, so possible interference occurs even in a range below 30 MHz. Moreover the DC cables behave as a receiving antenna and the induced radio frequency (RF) currents flow via a capacitive parasitic coupling into the ground connection. Through an experimental investigation the prevalent involved electromagnetic phenomena have been pointed out. General guidelines for the high frequency modelling of the system are also addressed.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. This algorithm is based on the instantaneous active current component i/sub d/ method, which was previously designed for the three-phase shunt hybrid power filter topology. In that design, the circuit performance was found unsatisfactory under unbalanced load. The proposed algorithm is therefore, motivated in order to solve such problems. The SHPF damps the resonant frequency created by source inductance and power factor correction capacitors to a non-critical value. The simulation results show that the performance of the proposed control algorithm and its capability to compensate for harmonics and reactive power under unbalanced nonlinear load and/or nonideal mains voltages and resonance problem of existing power factor correction capacitors can be improved by applying the SHPF.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004. In this line, our research group has developed several distributed systems applied to chemical analysis and industrial automation. For these implementations the CAN network was used. Nowadays there is a market for technical tasks like distributed control, monitoring or data acquisition where there is a need for wireless connectivity. Thus, in this paper we want to discuss possibilities and necessary developments to set up wireless communication for industrial applications. Also, an abstract definition of a new layered architecture for the implementation of intelligent and distributed systems interconnected by means of wireless networks is proposed. Several techniques of discrete control may be used, from Petri nets to an expert system based on rule nets, while continuous control loops may be implemented by means of from traditional PID devices to distributed neural network approaches. Finally, for the communication layer implementation, a wireless network such as Bluetooth or ZigBee could be used.","PeriodicalId":136064,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2004.
