The GSM-R will then become the communication system for data and voice transmission throughout the European Rail Network. However, the GSM-R communications can be significantly disturbed by the electromagnetic (EM) interferences produced by the railway vehicles and installations. Preliminary measurements highlighted that the EM disturbances produced when sparks occur due to the poor contact between the catenary and the pantograph radiate considerable energy in GSM-R band. This paper will then present the main characteristics of these transient disturbances and analyze the relevance of different characterization methods in order to establish their impact on the BER of the GSM-R communications.","PeriodicalId":133902,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility - EMC Europe","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127031209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Voltage distortion (power supply noise) and delay violations (signal and clock skews) dramatically contribute to signal integrity loss. As a consequence, performance degradation, reliability problems and ultimately, functional error occur. In this paper, we propose a new methodology to enhance SoC signal integrity with respect to power/ground voltage transients, without degrading its performance. The underlying principle of the proposed methodology is to dynamically adapt the clock duty-cycle (CDC) according to the signal propagation delay through the logic whose power supply voltage is being disturbed. The methodology is based on a clock stretching logic (CSL) block, which monitors abnormal power grid activity and increases clock duty-cycle accordingly. Moreover, a model to accurately quantify CDC stretching as a function of VDD/Gnd fluctuations is proposed. Practical experiments based on the implementation of a 32-bit pipeline processor in a FPGA IC were performed and demonstrate the circuit robustness enhancement to power line fluctuations while maintaining at-speed clock rate.","PeriodicalId":133902,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility - EMC Europe","volume":"192 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114214047","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These structures are often seen in a printed circuit board (PCB), or the space between a PCB and metal chassis. First, a SPICE model is proposed for these structures using 2-dimensional ladder networks and ideal transformers. Next, the model is expanded to structures including vertical connecting conductors, such as vias in a PCB and grounding posts connecting a PCB to a metal chassis. Coupling properties inside a PCB are calculated using the SPICE model and shown to be consistent with experimental data. Furthermore, radiated emissions from a PCB-chassis system are also calculated based on the SPICE and equivalent magnetic current source models. The results are consistent with experimental data to show the changes in radiated EMI due to the locations of grounding posts.","PeriodicalId":133902,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility - EMC Europe","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114694837","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Metal foams represent a novel class of materials which promise new interesting properties employable for various purposes. More specifically, the realization of electromagnetic shields has been considered and experimental Shielding Effectiveness (SE) measurements have been performed, demonstrating very good performance. In order to allow the design of metal foam EM shields, double 3D wire-mesh screens, obtained as a development of a previously 2D laminated shield, has been presented, comparing the relative results with experimental measure. The good agreement among the preliminary data paves the way to obtain an efficient analytical model of the complex electromagnetic behavior of metal foams.","PeriodicalId":133902,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility - EMC Europe","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126236538","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
