In order to explore the practical application of mixed method, this article starts from the perspective of language learner cognition and selects The Modern Language Journal and Language Teaching Research as the research journals. It explores some empirical papers that used mixed method to learn the specific research designs of mixed method as well as the main means of its application. The study finds that mixed method has been applied in several fields and is more scientifically reliable than qualitative and quantitative methods especially in language learner cognition, and the different research tools used in the field of language learner cognition demonstrate the flexibility and relevance of mixed method data collection.","PeriodicalId":133236,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Literature and Art Studies","volume":"30 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139222415","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Iconography explains the sources and interpretations of 123 paintings in 15 groups. The content covers the celebrities and historical allusions of Tessa in the past dynasties, in which there are many nicknames that are full of Chinese characteristics. This paper takes the English translation of characters’ nicknames in Iconography as the research object. Through the research, it is found that the translation of these characters’ nicknames mainly adopts the methods of transliteration, explanation, literal translation with annotations and free translation. Through the analysis of specific cases, this paper tries to make the translation meet the reading expectation of the target readers to the maximum extent, and provide reference for the English translation of related classical works.","PeriodicalId":133236,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Literature and Art Studies","volume":"13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139218967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

I argue that, according to Hesiod’s genesis theory, order in a society cannot be established organically through social formation. The main difficulty lies in the nature of society itself where the dualistic opposition in the male-female sexual relationship leads to endless conflicts between the two sexes and, further, between generations. To deal with the sexual relationship properly is the key to maintaining a stable social order. In the poem, the mother’s ‘dark womb’ is presented as a prominent image at every crucial moment of social formation and social (dis)ordering in both the divine and the human worlds. Taking this image as a clue, we can see that the issue of sexuality has a profound impact on social order, and also serves as a key to understanding divinity and humanity in Hesiod’s cosmogony.","PeriodicalId":133236,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Literature and Art Studies","volume":"3 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139223054","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is the novella written by the American writer Scott Fitzgerald in 1925 and established Fitzgerald’s position in the history of modern American literature. However, the researches about The Great Gatsby are almost always confined to the interpretation of the American dream, writing skills and the fate of the characters analysis and the interpretation of the original language style. The papers on female images from the perspective of feminism are comparatively few. This paper firstly introduces The Great Gatsby and domestic and foreign researches on it. The first part analyzes the three main female characters in the novel in detail, the second part tells their final fates in the novel, and the third part analyzes the deep root causes of the tragic fates of these female characters from three aspects.","PeriodicalId":133236,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Literature and Art Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139216116","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The novel takes place in a period of social and historical change, and the conflict between the old and the new ethical relations leads to the confusion of the ethical relations, which causes the relationship between the characters to become distorted. This paper tries to analyze the relationship between Baroness W and her family from the perspective of Ethical Literary Criticism in aspects of ethical environment, ethical selection and ethical identity. It reveals that in the period of social and historical change, in the environment of social ethics disorder, the distorted ethical selection of characters and the loss of ethical identity. Two subjects, the Hot Search List and its Public Discussion Forum, were chose to examine the complexity of the current situation of this hashtag activism. An auto-ethnographic methodology was used to interrogate the states quo of Chinese online feminist movement, revealing gender-centric discussions reinforcing stereotypes under the guise of equality. Misogynistic narratives, algorithmic constraints, censorship, and official opposition pose significant barriers to feminist discourse. Nonetheless, the study identifies a potential for hashtag activism within Weibo’s discourse, offering a space for resistance. By acknowledging these challenges, this paper seeks to empower Chinese feminists to challenge dominant narratives and advocate for their rights.","PeriodicalId":133236,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Literature and Art Studies","volume":"85 1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139220954","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Feminism refers to the idea that women and men ought to have equal rights. In 1734, the Swedish Civil Code gave women more rights, most notably prohibiting husbands from selling their wives’ possessions without their approval. In her 1790 essay “On the equality of the sexes,” American women’s rights campaigner Judith Sargent Murray claimed that women are just as bright as men. British author Mary Wollstonecraft responded to philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau and other 18th-century Enlightenment intellectuals who did not extend their concepts of freedom to women in her 1792 book A Vindication of the Rights of Women . She challenges the idea that women are less logical than males and opposes the injustice. “Who made man the exclusive judge?” she demands. However, Frenchman Charles Fourier coined the term “feminisme” in 1837, marking the beginning of the concept of feminism. The Victorian Social Convention exalted and imposed the domestic roles of wife and mother on most married middle-class women in 19th-century Britain. Career aspirations were restricted because they were not allowed to receive an education on par with that of males. In The Communist Manifesto , German philosophers and revolutionary political theorists Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels contend that a bourgeois man regards his wife as nothing more than an apparatus of production. According to Engles, the family is at the core of the violence and oppression that women experience. Marxist feminists saw capitalism and patriarchy as the two fundamental systems that supported the subjugation of women. The British writer and social theorist Harriet Taylor Mill underlined that a lady who could support the family financially and had a good education would be respected by her husband and treated as a partner. However, men utilize rape as a means of controlling women, as seen by the social inequities that still affect women today. It’s shocking to learn that rape was a taboo topic until 1975 when Susan Brownmiller authored Against Our Will: Men, Women, and Rape . There was a notion","PeriodicalId":133236,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Literature and Art Studies","volume":"25 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139216026","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
