This research aims to explore the teacher's approach to online teaching of recount text material and its impact on eighth-grade students' listening skills at SMP Negeri 1 Wonoayu. Employing a descriptive qualitative research method, data was collected through interviews and observations. The findings reveal that students effectively learned through listening to recount text materials, as evidenced by exercise scores. Communication between teachers and students occurred via WhatsApp Messenger Group, while recount text materials were delivered through YouTube videos. However, challenges faced by English teachers included technical understanding, selecting appropriate online listening methods, and motivating students for virtual learning. The research concludes that online teaching of recount texts can be successful but requires addressing these challenges for enhanced effectiveness in remote learning environments. Data were collected through video recording and observation at SMPN 3 Candi in Sidoarjo, employing a qualitative research design. Muysken's theory (2000) was used to analyze the variation of code mixing in the English class, which included alternation, insertion, and congruent lexicalization. The most prevalent type of code mixing observed was alternation, used as an alternative teaching strategy to enhance student comprehension. The study involved a non-participant observation approach, with data categorized by dates and dialogues classified based on code mixing types. Results indicated that alternation was the dominant code mixing type used by the teacher and students, facilitating improved understanding of English materials. The research concludes that code mixing serves as a valuable pedagogical tool in the learning process, acting as a bridge between students and teachers. The implications suggest further exploration of code mixing in educational institutions and the development of teaching techniques based on the findings to enhance language learning experiences. Highlight:  The study examines code mixing patterns in online English classes at the junior high school level, focusing on the usage by teachers and students. The most frequently used code mixing type is alternation, which serves as an effective alternative teaching strategy for facilitating student comprehension. A quantitative correlational approach was employed, with a sample of 290 students selected using stratified random sampling from the total population of 1,118 students. Data collection involved psychological scales, and Spearman's rho was used for data analysis. The results revealed a significant correlation (p < 0.05) between emotional intelligence and prosocial behavior among the students, with a correlation coefficient of 0.951, indicating a strong positive correlation. The majority of students demonstrated high levels of both emotional intelligence (57.6%) and prosocial behavior (60.3%). These findings suggest that an increase in emotional intelligence positively influences prosocial behavior, while a decrease in emotional intelligence leads to a decline in prosocial behavior. The implications of this research provide a basis for understanding students' emotional intelligence and prosocial behavior levels, allowing for interventions to enhance emotional intelligence and maximize prosocial behavior. Future studies should consider increasing the sample size and exploring additional factors, such as mood, genetic factors, situational influences, and personality, which may impact prosocial behavior. Highlight: Significant correlation: The study establishes a significant correlation between emotional intelligence and prosocial behavior among high school students, indicating a strong positive relationship. Impact of emotional intelligence: Higher levels of emotional intelligence contribute to an increase in prosocial behavior, while a decrease in emotional intelligence leads to a decline in prosocial behavior. Implications for intervention: The findings provide a basis for developing interventions to enhance students' emotional intelligence and maximize their prosocial behavior. The research took place in Sidoarjo and employed data obtained from interviews, observations, and documentation. The results showed that there are both advantages and disadvantages to each recording process, and the two systems cannot be equated. While manual recording provides a backup in case of system errors, the system facilitates monitoring of the total level of bad debt by the school treasurer.
