The author determines the type of periodical in the system of printed journalism of the time, the reasons for its popularity and considers the policy of the publisher and the editorial board. Special attention is paid to the newspaper’s heading system and the forms of interaction between literature and journalism. The research is based on the analysis of specific materials, the author concludes that the interaction of these forms of literature occurs both immanently, due to the combination of elements of artistic and journalistic genres in one text, and contextually, due to the influence of the newspaper’s information field on the subject of literary works.","PeriodicalId":130982,"journal":{"name":"Russian Literature and Journalism in the Pre-revolutionary Era: Forms of Interaction and Methodology of Analysis","volume":"347 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124290433","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Filosofov to K.I. Chukovsky, which are of great importance for the reconstruction of their literary and personal connections during the entire period of their acquaintance (1908–1919). The letters supplement the epistolary complex of D.S. Merezhkovsky and Z.N. Gippius, addressed to the same correspondent, and fill his chronological lacunae. In addition, they contain rich material for revealing the originality of the little-studied literary-critical activity of Filosofov — on the example of his assessments of the work of the young critic-satirist (both in private correspondence and in periodicals). By and large, it is from the responses of Filosofov that one can trace the formation of Chukovsky’s literary reputation, which is important for considering the typology of newspaper and magazine criticism in pre-revolutionary times as a whole.","PeriodicalId":130982,"journal":{"name":"Russian Literature and Journalism in the Pre-revolutionary Era: Forms of Interaction and Methodology of Analysis","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115677600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These have been classed into a number of thematic groups. The selection of names highlighted in the newspaper, the established literary hierarchy and reviews of works all indicate that the “literary” section was maintained by critics of mediocre ability and conservative views. Their articles were compilatory in nature, relying on other materials, above all from the Novoe Vremja newspaper. The authority of these materials was supported by their publication in the “national” Russian press; that is, they had already been vetted by censors, superiors and other readers.","PeriodicalId":130982,"journal":{"name":"Russian Literature and Journalism in the Pre-revolutionary Era: Forms of Interaction and Methodology of Analysis","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124804838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aykhenvald’s literary criticism. Attention is drawn to the relationship between Aykhenvald’s declared “immanent method” and “principled impressionism” and his own “philosophy of life”. It is proved that Aykhenvald’s version of “impressionism” is much closer to the theory of symbolism than it seemed to contemporaries and researchers. The analysis takes into account both the aesthetic “sympathies” (Apollon Grigoryev, Vladimir Solovyov, Oscar Wilde, Remy de Gourmont, Émile Faguet) and “antipathies” (Vissarion Belinsky, Vasily Rozanov), that influenced Aykhenvald’s interpretation of the heritage of literary critics, philosophers, and writers of the 19th century — Pushkin, Tolstoy, Chekhov.","PeriodicalId":130982,"journal":{"name":"Russian Literature and Journalism in the Pre-revolutionary Era: Forms of Interaction and Methodology of Analysis","volume":"228 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121464710","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The author’s goal was to investigate the methods used to form the literary reputation of the “Gilea” group, based on published reviews of the performances of cubo-futurists known for aestheticizing creative behavior. It is important to study the media image of cubo-futurists in the press and the conflicts that arise between them and the media. The author comes to the conclusion that cubo-futurists deliberately formed the literary reputation of hooligans, their creative behavior was characterized by an attitude towards scandal. This image was replicated by the press, conflict relations with which were part of the Cubo-Futurists’ strategy of selfpromotion.","PeriodicalId":130982,"journal":{"name":"Russian Literature and Journalism in the Pre-revolutionary Era: Forms of Interaction and Methodology of Analysis","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132218865","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The death of V. Komissarzhevskaya, M. Vrubel, M. Petipa, A. Kuindzhi, and L. Tolstoy marked the end of an entire epoch. At the same time, several essays published in some of the most important literary magazines of the time exposed the crisis of the symbolist movement, while books such as “Symbolism” by Andrey Bely attempted to give a conclusive account of its ideas. The beginning of a new chapter in the world of Russian art was prefigured in three programmatic works published in 1910: M. Kuzmin’s article “On Beautiful Clarity”, the miscellany “Impressionists’ Studio” edited by N. Kulbin, and the anthology “A Trap for Judges I”, the first collective publication of the Cubo-futurists. The present study focuses on Kulbin’s work and on the miscellany he edited to suggest that this text constitutes both a “bridge” between modernism and the avant-garde and a prototype of subsequent futuristic almanacs.","PeriodicalId":130982,"journal":{"name":"Russian Literature and Journalism in the Pre-revolutionary Era: Forms of Interaction and Methodology of Analysis","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132999440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the hostility of the dominant literary forces forced the early symbolists to move closer to each other.
