Gorky, published 17 essays by I. Babel, testifying to the young writer’s real immersion in the revolutionary reality. In these essays, there is already that outwardly dispassionate, somewhat detached manner of narration, which is inherent in Babel’s later works. However, he does not describe what is happening with an indifferent tone. The events depicted do not speak in favor of the new Bolshevik government. At the same time, these essays form the humanistic position of the future author of “Red Cavalry”. Babel will always remain true to the belief in the eternal continuity of life and the victory of good principles.","PeriodicalId":130982,"journal":{"name":"Russian Literature and Journalism in the Pre-revolutionary Era: Forms of Interaction and Methodology of Analysis","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114418401","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study of the print media raises the issue of integrity and indivisibility between the history of journalism and the history of literature. The article proposes the fundamental principles of journal (almanac) context theory based on the context division into external and internal, textual and non-textual ones, revealing the media’s editorial policy. The article gives examples of the practical implementation of the proposed theory for a certain press organ study. The conclusion reached is that there is a need for a complex journal or almanac-focused study (specifically historical and cross-cultural).","PeriodicalId":130982,"journal":{"name":"Russian Literature and Journalism in the Pre-revolutionary Era: Forms of Interaction and Methodology of Analysis","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117266568","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although members of the press most often act as secondary characters in the prose and drama of M. Gorky, A.I. Kuprin, E.N. The “power” of the press over public consciousness is often evaluated negatively, but the journalist’s figure can be described in tragic tones in terms of how it is perceived by these writers. P. Burenin in 1860–80 meet the requirements that were put forward in relation to fiction by the figures of the Proletkult (1918–1922). In this regard, a comparative analysis of a number of provisions underlying the two aesthetic doctrines is carried out, with a conclusion concerning the similarity of their basic provisions and their parallelism in building requirements for literature and journalism, which should not only be thematically devoted exclusively to practical human activity, but also actually be an integral part of it. The idea of “impudent realism”, put forward by Burenin in 1860s which sounded like a call was implemented on a practical level in the writings of such figures of the Proletkult as B. Arvatov, V. Pletnev, A. Bogdanov, etc.","PeriodicalId":130982,"journal":{"name":"Russian Literature and Journalism in the Pre-revolutionary Era: Forms of Interaction and Methodology of Analysis","volume":"33 1-2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116719901","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, satirical graphics constantly turned to the image of the Russian writer. The study compares the methods of depicting writers in the 19th and early 20th centuries and isolates the traditions of referring to the literary past and present. Caricature in connection with new trends in literature showed writers in the role of heroes of low and elite cultures, “tramps” (bossjaki) and modernists.","PeriodicalId":130982,"journal":{"name":"Russian Literature and Journalism in the Pre-revolutionary Era: Forms of Interaction and Methodology of Analysis","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134221792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Newspaper versions of texts are compared with later versions from collected works and poetic features are revealed. The historical background of the publication is restored and the poets’ attitude to military service during the First World War are clarified. Critical responses given by Nov’ publicists are considered and the discussion between V. Mayakovsky, N. Raevsky and A. A. Suvorin is described. The commentary makes it possible to look at the page “Mourning Hurray” as a complete artistic statement.","PeriodicalId":130982,"journal":{"name":"Russian Literature and Journalism in the Pre-revolutionary Era: Forms of Interaction and Methodology of Analysis","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128637614","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the “western outskirts” of the empire, anti-Russian, nationalist and separatist sentiments are spreading more and more widely. Under these conditions, the idea of a “united and indivisible Russia” is being actualized as a fundamental principle of state policy. This idea became the core of the process of Russification of the “outskirts”. The government’s Finlyandskaya Gazeta (1900– 1917) became the brainchild of the incipient process of Russification. The newspaper’s ideological pathos, concept, and tasks formulated by its editor I.A. Bazhenov are discussed in this article.","PeriodicalId":130982,"journal":{"name":"Russian Literature and Journalism in the Pre-revolutionary Era: Forms of Interaction and Methodology of Analysis","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127832289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Myth of a Failure of the First Staging Chekhov’s “The Seagull” 契诃夫《海鸥》第一阶段的失败神话

Chekhov’s “The Seagull” at the Alexandrinsky Theater is far from certain. After the relative failure of the premiere performance, painfully perceived by Chekhov himself, but, incidentally, marked by the wonderful performance of Vera Komissarzhevskaya, the first production of the play had an ordinary and even quite prosperous fate: four more performances, marked by good preparation and increasing theatrical success. As such the idea of a complete “failure” of the first production of “The Seagull” was partly man-made and came not least from the founders, followers and historians of the Moscow Art Theater, for whom it was important to emphasize its role in the creation of the new Russian theater (at the same time diminishing the role of Chekhov himself in it).","PeriodicalId":130982,"journal":{"name":"Russian Literature and Journalism in the Pre-revolutionary Era: Forms of Interaction and Methodology of Analysis","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117348362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objects of attention were publications that touch upon topics related to literature, music, painting, theater, architecture, sculpture and philosophy. The pages of a relatively short-lived newspaper reflected, in particular, such events as the arrival in Moscow of F. Marinetti, H. Wells, G. Kogan, the protest actions of European suffragettes, the exclusion of V. Rozanov from the Religiousphilosophical society, the centenary anniversary of T. Shevchenko, the return of M. Gorky to Russia and exhibitions of avant-garde artists. This indicates that the Nov’ newspaper can be used as a valuable source for the study of Russian culture at the beginning of the 20th century.","PeriodicalId":130982,"journal":{"name":"Russian Literature and Journalism in the Pre-revolutionary Era: Forms of Interaction and Methodology of Analysis","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116195860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
