The publication was weekly and came out in only 24 issues, but during this short period it significantly changed its political orientation. This was largely determined by the change of editors: N. Vasilevsky was replaced by M. Rubakin. The newspaper is also interesting in so far as it published letters from the deputy of the Duma from the Novgorod province P.G. Izmailov, a peasant who was a member of the Social Democratic Party. He used the newspaper as a platform for speaking out about important socio-political issues.","PeriodicalId":130982,"journal":{"name":"Russian Literature and Journalism in the Pre-revolutionary Era: Forms of Interaction and Methodology of Analysis","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131113870","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An emphasis is placed on the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries as a period when Burenin’s core devices in his critical works in the context of his own literary reputation have already acquired the character of cliché. I consider ego-documents, and Critical Essays by Burenin, published in Suvorin’s newspaper Novoe Vremya and critical responses to these essays. In analyzing the assessments, given by contemporaries and researchers, I prove the need to take into account a more subtle gradation of research positions and statements, formed partly under the influence of the Burenin’s contradictory, shockingly reactionist strategy. Keywords: Burenin, literary reputation, polemics, literary scandal.","PeriodicalId":130982,"journal":{"name":"Russian Literature and Journalism in the Pre-revolutionary Era: Forms of Interaction and Methodology of Analysis","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125049249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Returning to Petrograd in September 1917, Zamyatin met Gorky, after which four more of his stories and three articles were published, this time on the pages of the newspaper Novaya Zhizn’ (1917–1918). Literature and journalism interact in many ways. The mechanisms of this interaction are still not well understood. The peculiarity of the Russian cultural situation lies in the unusually close connection in which not only journalism and literature developed in the 19th century, and especially at the beginning of the 20th century but also the way in which philology did. Poetics as a science is largely shaped by focusing on the current literary process, and the participation of leading scientists as critics noticeably increases the level of journalism.","PeriodicalId":130982,"journal":{"name":"Russian Literature and Journalism in the Pre-revolutionary Era: Forms of Interaction and Methodology of Analysis","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129257404","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The real diversity of positions seems to us more complex and contradictory. On the one hand, the status of a Russian writer as early as the 19th century began to influence the socio-political life of the country. On the other hand, at the turn of the century, journalism, as never before, actively participated in the creation and destruction of writers’ reputations, adapted for the general reader the meanings contained in works of verbal art. The proposed book, the second issue of the new scientific series “Russian Literature and Journalism in the Pre-Revolutionary Era”, is devoted to a multifaceted consideration of these processes.","PeriodicalId":130982,"journal":{"name":"Russian Literature and Journalism in the Pre-revolutionary Era: Forms of Interaction and Methodology of Analysis","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122367304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thanks to the transition from the formulation of theoretical and methodological questions to the study of the practical implementation of the interaction of literature and journalism on the actual material, a more rigorous idea of the process of integrating literature into the sphere of public attention is created. The study aims to demonstrate the genre-thematic features of the literary and critical publications of the social, political and literary daily newspaper Yuzhnyj Kraj in 1900–1905. Attention is paid to such aspects as the context in which the periodical press existed at the beginning of the 20th century, the forms of interaction between literature and journalism on the pages of the Kharkiv edition, the poetics of the feuilleton as a public and literary center of the newspaper, the presence of literary and critical discourse in the Yuzhnyj Kraj, as well as the role of individual authors in its transformation by 1905.","PeriodicalId":130982,"journal":{"name":"Russian Literature and Journalism in the Pre-revolutionary Era: Forms of Interaction and Methodology of Analysis","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132581370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
