Since globalization enhances intercultural interaction, the study of languages and cultures in the world community becomes the most important part of research. An important linguistic effect of globalization is the selection of a number of languages that are most common in the world community. Today world practice demonstrates the steady prevalence of a small group of languages over all the others. These are the languages that are most often used in various types of communication. The bulk of business correspondence is conducted on them, most of the fiction and scientific literature has been translated into these languages, they are taught in schools and universities around the world. It should be noted that in the twenty-first century, knowledge of only one language is not enough both for economic, social and educational growth. Accordingly, the requirements for education in the field of a foreign language in higher school have changed. This problem concerns not only the education system of Russia, its regions, but also the educational practice of the entire world community, which indicates the relevance, scale and significance of this problem for modern civilization. It is fully manifested in high school and raises the issue of systemic changes in the professional training of future specialists in the field of professional education. It also determines the need to form the readiness of Russian federal and regional university graduates for life and professional activities in an open, democratic post-industrial society, where representatives of different races, nationalities and cultures coexist and interact with each other. This study investigates the effectiveness of retelling as a reading strategy for university students of ESL. Three A2 level, two B1 level and three B2 level students participated in the study. They were divided into two groups (Group A and B) according to their English language competence and other factors. Their retelling outcomes including oral, and written during 2 months period were collected and analyzed. During the study, students were being taught stories and asked to retell the stories orally and/or in writing through creative activities. The results show an improvement in the story structure, length of the retelling, reading comprehension, and confidence. Major improvement in vocabulary growth was found. Self-evaluations and observation indicate that the participants enjoyed story readings, their attitude toward reading became more positive, and they gained self-confidence. The experiment was conducted in an ICP EFL reading comprehension course, a five credit course, with five hours of instruction per week, over the first semester of 2021-2022 academic year. Forty ICP EFL students of Sciences and Arts College taking EFL reading comprehension course took part in this study, with 20 students in the experimental group and 20 in the control group. The experimental group received a Jigsaw strategy instruction, whereas the control group received a traditional lecturing instruction. The sole instrument used in this study was an identical pre-post EFL reading comprehension test. Both of the experimental and control groups were administered pre and post EFL reading comprehension tests. The pre- and post- scores from the EFL reading comprehension tests were calculated for descriptive statistics and compared using a t Test. The findings of the study indicated that there were statistically significant differences in favor of the effectiveness of using Jigsaw strategy instruction in enhancing ICP EFL students’ reading comprehension skills. The students’ scores in EFL reading comprehension were higher for the post-test than the pre-test after being subject to Jigsaw strategy instruction. Most literature published on using cooperative learning strategies in the Saudi higher education context did not focus on using Jigsaw strategy in teaching EFL reading comprehension for ICP EFL students. To the best of the researcher’s knowledge, this is the first paper to investigate the effectiveness of using Jigsaw strategy in teaching EFL reading comprehension for secondary school leavers without prior experience with cooperative learning strategies like ICP EFL students. And that means keeping people safe and healthy. Safety and health can also be defined as a freedom from hazard, protection from or not being exposed to the risk of harm or injury, inability to cause or result in harm, injury, or damage, and in terms of a place it is a place where damage or harm is very unlikely. Educational institutions which includes schools and universities should provide a safe and healthy environment for all. There are various forms of safety and health issues which can occur in educational institutions like bullying, fighting, gang activity, the use of weapons, shootings, violence against authority, violence against peers, racial, religious, sexual, gender or bias-motivated violence or intimidation as well as vandalism. The issue of safety and health can also include the suitability of the building structures itself to the occupants. Sometimes the structures itself is not suitable to be occupied and be used as educational settings. The issue can also be extended to include pollutions where students and workers in the educational settings are being exposed to unsafe and unhealthy environment from the surrounding. Such pollutions might come from air, water soil and many more. Foods hygiene can also become an issue when discussing about the issue of safety and health in educational settings. With the spread of Covid-19 pandemic in early 2020, the issue of safety and health has become a very hot topic of discussion by everyone including those belong in educational settings. Students, their parents and guardians, along with their educators and administrative staffs now demanding a more safe and healthy environment for them to teach and learn. A safe and healthy learning environment will allow students and all workers in educational institutions to focus with their respective duties and responsibilities. Similar like other workplaces, the issue of safety and health in all educational institutions should be the prime concern for everyone. And similar like other workplaces, employer in the educational institution play very important role to ensure their educational premises is safe and healthy for everyone. Employer in such institution should take responsibility if there is any neglectful breach on their part to ensure safety and health issue in their educational settings. All educational settings should provide conducive space where everyone can come to teach and learn without having worry over their own safety and health. Safety and health of the students and workers which includes educators and the administrative staffs in the educational settings should be given top priority for everyone. There cannot be any compromise on such issue.
