An important place in these processes is taken by the Higher Education sector, which provides the necessary specialists, as well accommodates favorable conditions for research and development activities. Mohatle","doi":"10.47696/adved.202250","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.47696/adved.202250","url":null,"abstract":"The purpose of this study was to design measures that should be included in a framework for the use of English as a Language of Learning and Teaching in a classroom interaction approach to enhance learners’ communicative competence in the Intermediate Phase. The previous research advocates that classroom interaction activities can provide opportunities for the facilitation of the additional language, as they encourage meaningful interaction in the target language and active learner participation. Moreover, a classroom interaction approach helps learners to construct their own learning while expressing themselves in the additional language. In the English as Language of Learning and Teaching (LoLT) settings, where it is an ongoing challenge to provide learners with practical learning and interactive learning opportunities, interaction activities such as discussion, storytelling, role-play, reading aloud and debate are seen as advancing measures, albeit there is superficial implementation of some of these activities in the Intermediate Phase LoLT classrooms. This multiple case study investigated the nature and scope of classroom interaction in teaching LoLT to enhance learners’ communicative competence. The study explored the teachers’ understanding of classroom interaction, teachers and learners’ beliefs and attitudes and the strategies used by the teachers in teaching LoLT in the classrooms. The research was undertaken at five public primary schools, but the focus was on the Intermediate Phase at Motheo District of Free State Province. It was found that most of the teachers still use the teacher-centred method while learners remain passive receivers. The study recommends that LoLT teachers should be trained to implement the classroom interaction using the interactive activities in additional language and create a conducive teaching and learning environment that permits the learners’ participation; the schools should have a parental involvement policy as a means of encouraging parents to be involved in their children’s learning; policy makers should include debate as an interactive activity in the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) document teaching plans in order for the teachers to fully implement it; and parents should be trained on how to assist with homework tasks and take responsibility for their children’s learning. Rodríguez-Correa, David García Arango","doi":"10.47696/adved.202228","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.47696/adved.202228","url":null,"abstract":"UNESCO Global Geoparks are characterized by their contribution to the conservation of natural, geological, and cultural resources of the regions where they are located. Geoparks also represent an important figure within the sustainable development of the regions, so strategies around economic growth, conservation, and promotion of education are a fundamental part of their raison d'être. This study aims to identify the main trends in educational and conservation processes in geoparks worldwide. The methodological approach is based on the review of 114 articles from a search equation in the Scopus database, analyzing the results through a series of quantity, quality, and structure indicators. The search period is between 2005 and 2023, so there are recent advances in implementing educational aspects in geoparks. Other results point to the participation of several Asian and European countries as the most predominant, as well as a trend in the implementation of educational processes focused on earth sciences, environmental sciences, and social sciences. Sustainable development and conservation education programs are major players in the findings of this study. In this way, geoparks work as centers for developing conservation dynamics, developing economic and social aspects driven by educational initiatives, and disseminating knowledge to the communities and visitors. The interest it aroused was mainly due to the effectiveness of its theory and application models, its purpose being the improvement of learning, the support of the acquisition of knowledge and the formation of skills. \u0000The present study is dedicated to Instructional Design and its role in education. The first section provides a brief overview of the evolution of this field from the period of the Second World War to the beginning of the 21st century. We also have here a review of the definitions of Instructional Design identified in the specialized literature. This can be done at the internal level by reforming the justice agencies and building citizens' confidence in them, and organizing and restoring traditional ways of resolving disputes and conflicts through reconciliation and dialogue and Education in order to spread a culture of peace and tolerance in contemporary societies which has become an urgent necessity. Today, education is required to aim at resisting the influence of factors that lead to fear and exclusion of others, and at helping young people to develop their capacities for independence of opinion and critical and moral thinking. Policies and programs should contribute educational curricula and other educational materials in promoting understanding, solidarity and tolerance among individuals and combating violence and extremism. The emergence of democratic culture at the global level is hoped to achieve this goal. In our opinion, the culture of peace is one of the pillars of the culture of democracy. Democratic behaviour is peaceful behaviour. It renounces violence whatever it is, except for legitimate self-defence, which is a natural right, and uses discussion, dialogue and persuasion as a means of dealing. Education aims to develop concepts of education for peace, a better human future, international cooperation and solidarity on the basis of justice, equality, interaction and mutual respect among all nations and peoples. UNESCO stresses that if the goal of education is to raise the level of educational attainment, the most important thing is to link education with life skills in order to prevent violence and build peace.
