This paper proposes a new grid-connected HVDC shunt tap. The proposed tap uses series-input, parallel-output multi-module 2-level voltage source converters (VSCs) as an alternative to the conventional single DC-to-AC voltage source converter (VSC) followed by a step down transformer. In the conventional system, semiconductor devices should be connected in series, in order to meet the high-voltage requirements in the HVDC systems. Hence, careful design to ensure dynamic voltage sharing between switches is necessary. The proposed technique is not limited by this constraint, as series connection of semiconductor switches can be avoided by employing a large number of VSC modules. The controller of the proposed system should keep equal DC input voltages, and equal output current sharing. Detailed illustration for the proposed controller is presented in this work. A Simulation study is carried out to show the effectiveness of the proposed architecture and to validate the proposed controller.","PeriodicalId":127217,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 8th GCC Conference & Exhibition","volume":"4658 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123069461","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Disturbance rejection strategies should be developed to mitigate transient disturbance and ensure stability of energy supply for distributed generation system (DGS). In this study, doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) and DC-DC step-down converter are exemplified as AC and DC microgrids, respectively. Two transient management to handle voltage dip of the utility grid, specifically for the DFIG topology have been discussed. For a DC/DC converter, an average current sharing (ACS) scheme for secondary control is introduced. Technique to specify parameters for PI control is also implemented. Therefore, as the amount of data to be stored is inevitably increasing, the demand for faster data retrieval and sharing is getting higher and the level of security is becoming more critical. Most organizations enter the competitive world with the idea of keeping all their data on centralized computer systems. This enables the organization to automate the processes using which it carries out its operation more effectively and efficiently. In order to be able to achieve the accessibility and availability of data, the Operating Systems (OS) audit should be carried out carefully. The main focus of this research is to find out what are the issues involved in conducting information Technology (IT) auditing in banking sector of Oman, how these issues can be handled in accordance with IT audit standards. Case study is adopted from a real local bank in Oman, where OS auditing was carried out.","PeriodicalId":127217,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 8th GCC Conference & Exhibition","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124184626","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work investigates relay cardinality impact on the performance of sender-driven multi-hop messaging protocols over VANETs. The aim of this study is to identify suitable relay set cardinalities for varying spectrum of applications, with emphasis on active alert messaging protocols. Impact of relay cardinality is evaluated while considering end-to-end communication delays and reachability of messages as performance measurement metrics. Performance evaluation is conducted for broadcast messages over large coverage and densely populated networks. Simulation experiments reveal that reachability of the sender-driven broadcasts improve to a certain extend with increase in relay cardinality, but at the expense of increasing end-to-end delays.","PeriodicalId":127217,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 8th GCC Conference & Exhibition","volume":"259 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122511246","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A survey is tailored in order to capture relevant public belief, perception, and planned behavior, then a descriptive analysis of the data is performed to examine the associations between the willingness to use solar panels in households and the other explanatory variables. Initial results show that government policies and subsidies are main factors affecting the desire to adopt green energy. These results will help overcome obstacles that might be faced prior or during a transition to the Smart-Grid, especially in residential area.","PeriodicalId":127217,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 8th GCC Conference & Exhibition","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132472207","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The privatization of electricity industry originates with purpose of improving the quality of supply, reducing the electricity price (especially in developed countries), decreasing the participation of government in this industry (especially in developing countries), and etc. According to the Principle 44 of Iranian Constitution, at least, 80% of electricity distribution companies must be privatized. Although some shares of distribution companies have been transferred from government to public bodies recently, but elimination of monopoly and introduction of competition are new goals for privatization. In this paper, the reasons of successes and failures of past experiences in privatization in Iran are identified and based on this knowledge and benchmarking with some foreign countries experiences, the structure of distribution sector of Iran in according to facilitating private participation are proposed. The new entities, their functions and interrelations are determined in the model. In addition, the required executive action plan for achieving the proposed model is presented.","PeriodicalId":127217,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 8th GCC Conference & Exhibition","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132144362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These technical rules and recommendations, however, give the operators the option of going beyond mere compliance with these minimum requirements, implementing more stringent requirements or even defining these in details. In this paper, main criteria and rules, which should be considered in interconnection power plants to the islanded grids, are reviewed. One of the criteria, that is a main concern of system planners and operators, is frequency deviation limits and required spinning reserve to diminish it.
