Our ultimate goal is to create effective methods for training and assessing human operators of joystick-controlled robots. Towards that goal, in this paper we present an extensive study consisting of 18 experimental subjects controlling a simulated robot, using either no feedback or auditory feedback. Multiple observables were recorded, including not only joystick and robot angles and timings, but also subjective measures of difficulty, personality and usability data, and automated analysis of facial expressions and blink rate of the subjects. Our initial results indicate that: First, that the subjective difficulty of teleoperation with auditory feedback has smaller variance as compared to teleoperation without feedback, and second, that the subjective difficulty of a task is linearly related with the logarithm of task completion time. The department admits around 2 5% to 30% of engineering students every semester. Specialization selection is based on students' discretion and academic achievement. From its inception, ECE accommodated the largest share of students in the college and was usually favored by students compared to other departments. Nevertheless, it was observed that students refrain from selecting ECE as a first choice in the last couple of years. In 2005, 33% of students applying for specialization chose ECE as their first choice. Today, the number is south to 13%. The inverter is modulated with space vector PWM. However, the proposed approach is independent of the modulation technique. The open-circuit faults under study are single transistor open-circuit, single inverter switch open-circuit, double-transistors open-circuit, double-switches open-circuit, and inverter leg/legs open-circuit. The proposed approach is based on measuring the terminal voltages of the inverter and compares it with the output voltages of the analytical model. These measurements require one cycle from the output voltage to detect the fault and to identify the fault location. Simulation and experimental results of common open-circuit faults occurred in the five-phase voltage source inverter are given. Results and analysis lead to extract rules for different fault conditions. This paper presents a fault diagnostic and fault tolerant control algorithm on the altitude sensor of a quadrotor UAV. The quadrotor used is QUANSER's Qball-X4, which is part of the Unmanned Vehicles Lab (UVL) at UAE University. The proposed fault tolerant control is based on hardware redundancy of three altitude sensors. Residuals are generated based on the three altitude measurements, which are then used to compute indicators about fault occurrences. These indicators serve the fault isolation algorithm to determine the faulty sensor, and in return allows for automatic switching between the sensors in case the faulty sensor is used in the closed-loop system. This huge volume of vehicles leads to higher accidents' rates and more congested roads. Therefore, there is a severe need to exploit new technologies to minimize the fatalities in the streets and increase the traffic safety. The Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) aims at increasing the roads' safety and enhancing the roads' efficiency. ITS have different applications, such as overtaking assistance, animal detection, road enforcement, Collision avoidance, etc.. There are several forms of networks that are designed for intelligent transport applications. The main forms are the Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET) and Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANET). Messages in these forms of networks are broadcasted among the nodes, however a number of challenges appear to affect reliable broadcasts. In order to minimize the flooding caused by the network inefficient broadcasting, several clustering algorithms are designed. Clustering is a technique to group the nodes that have similarities according to some criteria together. Each algorithm has specific criteria that play a critical role in building a stable cluster. Through this paper, several clustering algorithms are presented and classified according to different categories. In this paper, we developed a basic and simple wireless electricity system to investigate and analysis the system performance. This system was developed using electrodynamic induction technique to demonstrate the wireless power transfer system. Moreover, this system is able to transfer power without a man-made conductor connected between power source and electrical load. A few experiments have been done to investigate the related parameters of the wireless electricity system. However, the results of experiments depict the important of number of turns of coils, distance between two transmitter and receiver coils and the diameter of both coils. Each of these parameters could affect the efficiency of the system. In this connection-oriented protocol, network failures can cause a serious disruption to critical data traffic which is unacceptable for customers who require highly reliable services. To guarantee high QoS and enhance network performance during failures, researchers have developed different recovery mechanisms for MPLS to ensure rerouting traffic from original faulty paths to alternate paths. In this paper, a comprehensive study is carried out on MPLS recovery mechanisms for protecting and restoring traffic after failure occurrence. In order to model the recovery mechanisms in MPLS networks, a new modeling framework for MPLS recovery was developed on a multi-layer approach. Providing services for accessing, sharing and modifying large databases is a crucial task for grid management systems. This paper proposes an artificial neural network (ANN) prediction mechanism that provides an enhancement to data replication solutions within grid systems. Current replication services often exhibit an increase in response time, reflecting the problems associated with the ever increasing size of databases. The proposed replica selection prediction model will locate files for incoming jobs using users' historical executions. As a result, electrical voltage is induced in other electrodes. The measured voltage across driver and non-driver electrodes/segments are called the piezoelectric voltage and the induced voltage respectively. The induced voltage has been used in displacement estimation and control of piezoelectric tube actuators since 2006, while the piezoelectric voltage has been used for the same purpose since 1980's. However, the newly introduced signal of the induced voltage has never been critically assessed for piezoelectric tubes' displacement estimation and control purposes, particularly in comparison with the piezoelectric voltage, another easy to measure electrical signal; this article aims to present such an assessment. In this research, both signals were mapped into displacement through linear and nonlinear models. Under the persistent excitation condition, it is shown that the overall observer injection gain, that ensures the convergence of the system states and the adaptive parameters, is composed by a sum of a constant and a time-varying gains. It is found that the constantgain output injection is sufficient to make the observer globally convergent under the condition that all the system parameters are known. In addition, if the persistent excitation condition is verified, the time-varying output injection is easily conceived by appropriate selection of a free design parameter. The observer design methodology is stated as the solution of a linear matrix inequality which is numerically tractable.
