Many methods and approaches have designed and introduced algorithms to solve the problem of morphology and stemming of Arabic language. Each researcher proposed his own standards, testing methodology and accuracy measurements to test his algorithm. Therefore, we cannot make an exact comparison between these algorithms. However, this research goes over stemming processes by explaining and discussing Arabic language characteristics and difficulties of stemming it, comparing root-based stemming, suffix and prefix - based stemming, and translation base stemming against each other, representing a modified stemming algorithm which helps go over some missing words in other algorithms. And finally, representing a new vision of Arabic stemming techniques.","PeriodicalId":127217,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 8th GCC Conference & Exhibition","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114784006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Being widely reported, the nine-switch and ten-switch based converters are considered for the comparative analysis. Conduction losses of both these converters are compared to identify the merits and drawbacks as they are used in dc-ac, ac-dc, dc-dc or ac-ac energy conversion systems. Although nine and ten switch converters have been reported to experience higher dc-link voltage leading to additional losses, this is not the case in general and therefore requires a comprehensive study to evaluate the real standing of each. An analytical model is employed to evaluate the losses in each switch for different operational modes Simulation results are included to verify the analytical evaluation.","PeriodicalId":127217,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 8th GCC Conference & Exhibition","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117203520","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cutoff frequency of the conditioning filter is based on the power transfer matrix of the DFIG system. The power transfer matrix elegantly linearizes the DFIG's state space matrices using small signal approximation. We have investigated the effect of the different parameters on the bandwidth of partial transfer functions of the DFIG system. We were able to determine the bandwidth of the DFIG system by evaluating the dominating poles of the system. This is achieved by solving for the roots of the characteristic equation of the linearized state matrices of the power transfer matrix model. The low pass conditioning filter was used to remove additive Gaussian noise from the control signals. The proposed filter was simulated using Simulink/PowerSysTool, and the simulation showed that additive Gaussian noise was removed while the DFIG operated near its optimal power extraction point.","PeriodicalId":127217,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 8th GCC Conference & Exhibition","volume":"124 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124652425","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system detects and diagnoses faults in the basic components of the excitation control systems with high accuracy and in almost real time using fuzzy set theory. Once a fault is diagnosed, a mitigation action follows, where the signal out of the faulty component is replaced by an alternative signal generated by the fault mitigation system. The mitigation action ensures that the field excitation voltage and thus the terminal voltage of the affected generator are controlled in a way that pre-fault stability of the grid is maintained. The accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed scheme are verified through case studies performed on the IEEE 30 bus test system.","PeriodicalId":127217,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 8th GCC Conference & Exhibition","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130686474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Studies show that rural customers are more susceptible to longer daily driving distances, insufficient charging infrastructure, and lower consumer awareness, all of which decrease BEV adoption. To help promote the environmental and economic benefits of BEVs to local residents a case study is carried out in which 13 BEVs and charging stations are deployed across nine small communities in Nebraska State with an average population of 11,600 residents per community. Using local electricity mix and fuel price data, the predicted costs savings for one BEV over a conventional vehicle (CV) are $1,680 to $1,810 per year and the environmental impact is an emission reduction of 2,680 to 2,880 kg of CO2 per year. Data from the BEVs and charging stations and comparisons to predicted values will be presented in a future version of this paper.","PeriodicalId":127217,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 8th GCC Conference & Exhibition","volume":"231 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123262499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ultimate goal of this paper is to investigate the voltage stability of Musandam (an area in the Sultanate of Oman) micro-grid during the expansion of the network. A micro-grid is normally composed of relatively small-distributed generators supplying an islanded distribution network. Although a micro-grid may not be a complex interconnected power system similar to a transmission network, but it has some characteristics that makes it undergo stability problems when it is exposed to disturbances. In this paper, a study is being done to expand the power network of the area of Musandam. Since, this area is not connected to the main interconnected system of Oman, it operates as a microgrid. In order to perform the voltage stability analysis, modal analysis as well as PV and QV curves were evaluated based on load flow for selected scenarios. A MATLAB m-file has been developed to carry out the static voltage stability analysis. The dynamic voltage stability analysis has been performed by using time domain simulation with PSAT software.","PeriodicalId":127217,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 8th GCC Conference & Exhibition","volume":"119 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121126695","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From there, the worker is then able to perform necessary risk assessments and evaluate control measures that could be employed to ensure that the risks around him/her are minimized. There have been numerous researches circulated as well in the sole objective of improving the hazard identification effectiveness of a worker. However, all of them concentrate on leadership and management aspects, and in most cases, focusing on guidelines, policies and procedures. In this paper, a simple mathematical model that could be used to describe and measure a worker's hazard identification effectiveness is proposed. It is argued that hazard identification is executed under three psychological stages: 1) signal detection of potential hazards; 2) recognition of potential hazards; and 3) evaluation of signal based on stock knowledge. The resulting model, although just a simple probability rule, may suggest that in order to improve the effectiveness of a worker's hazard identification skills, the worker must: 1) be educated by increasing the knowledge base; and 2) improve his/her skills by performing continuous practice and coaching.","PeriodicalId":127217,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 8th GCC Conference & Exhibition","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116053391","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper introduces the concept of Consolidated Demand Reduction Bid (CDRB) and develops a dynamic algorithm to compute the same for a consumer having a set of devices with different ratings, importance and constraints. CDRB consist of various power levels at which consumer is willing to curtail it's load during a particular control interval Pl(k) and the corresponding bid to curtail Pl(k) units of power for a specified duration is F(CPl(k)). The proposed algorithm can be implemented using two way communication between the consumer and the service provider. The applicability of the dynamic algorithm is illustrated using a cases study. The dynamic nature of the algorithm is also illustrated for different choices of the service provider.","PeriodicalId":127217,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 8th GCC Conference & Exhibition","volume":"344 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122644846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Oman Electricity Transmission Company and Tractebel Engineering analyze the challenges and review the existing load demand forecast studies used in Oman. Different studies analyze load forecasting at short to medium term. A spatialization of the long term load forecast is required in the Transmission Master Plan (2014-2030) of Oman in order to correctly address the transmission expansion plan. Several approaches are proposed to review and challenge existing studies and to spatialize the load demand forecast. The approaches are called global and areabased forecasting methods. Each approach is complimentary and allows to cross-check the adequacy of the method to the peculiarities of the local load demand and the accuracy of the data available. The global method allows linking the electricity consumption to the various economic indicators through mathematical regression relating the electrical energy consumption to socio-economic indicators. The area-based based method aims to spatialize the load forecast taking into account the consumption at regional level and the local characteristics of each area in the Sultanate. The results of the load demand forecast analysis defined the area with very high growth, the amount of generation required in the firm of the Transmission Master Plan and accordingly the least cost transmission network development plan.","PeriodicalId":127217,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 8th GCC Conference & Exhibition","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-03-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125811220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
