The proposed architecture combines relative simplicity with an almost rail-to-rail input range. A synchronous demodulator is embedded into the output stage. These characteristics make it suitable for AC current sensing applications. A prototype has been designed using the UMC 0.18um MM/RF CMOS process. Simulations performed with a supply voltage of 1.5 V, showed that a maximum relative error of nearly 1 % can be achieved for stimulation frequencies up to 1 MHz and with a DC input common-mode voltage variable across a nearly 1 V interval. Power consumption is 150 uW.","PeriodicalId":125553,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2013 9th Conference on Ph.D. Research in Microelectronics and Electronics (PRIME)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134302284","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Measurements show a wide relative tuning range of 37.6% from 4.57 GHz to 6.69 GHz with a tuning voltage from 0 to 3 V. Using an integrated divide-by-2 circuit, both the 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz ISM bands can be covered. A key feature is the low gain variation, which stays below 12.5 % up to 6GHz and below 33.3% for the whole tuning range. At 5.725 GHz, the phase noise at 1MHz offset was measured to -105dBc/Hz. The VCO core consumes 4mA of current from a 3V supply voltage. It is implemented using an IBM 180nm SiGe BiCMOS process and the core area amounts to 0.5mm×0.4 mm.","PeriodicalId":125553,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2013 9th Conference on Ph.D. Research in Microelectronics and Electronics (PRIME)","volume":"668 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132331716","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In semiconductor industry experiments are mainly performed following predefined specifications and guidelines, given by experts for the device under test (DUT). The statistical method design of experiments (DoE) provides an objective solution to the question: which experiments have to be performed to get the most information concerning main influencing factors and interaction between factors. In practical usage classical DoE often reach their limits, especially when resources for experiments are meagre. A remedy is given by optimal DoEs. They are more flexible and offer the possibility to optimize e.g. the prediction accuracy on a pre-defined area, where performing measurements is difficult. For this purpose the IV-optimality criterion is used in this paper. On the basis of already performed experiments, an exchange algorithm proposed by Spoöck and Pilz [2] was used to select 3 further desired experiments. After their performance they were evaluated and, as expected, an improvement in the mean squared error of prediction (MSEP) was observed.","PeriodicalId":125553,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2013 9th Conference on Ph.D. Research in Microelectronics and Electronics (PRIME)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124746288","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

CMUTs are emerging transducer elements in ultrasound imaging applications. Two different circuit topologies for the high-voltage linear transmitter with a 40 V peak-to-peak output voltage are compared. We compare the two designs based on total harmonic distortion, power consumption, bandwidth and area for same voltage gain. The designs are done in AMS 0.18 μm technology, and utilize Si LDMOS device for a high-voltage output.","PeriodicalId":125553,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2013 9th Conference on Ph.D. Research in Microelectronics and Electronics (PRIME)","volume":"134 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116348504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The downconversion mixer is designed for IR-UWB IEEE 802.15.4a standard compliant receivers. It can be reconfigured according to the selected operation channel. In fact, it enables the downconversion of the #3 mandatory channel in low band (4.4928 GHz carrier frequency, 499.2 MHz channel bandwidth), or #9 mandatory channel in high band (7.9872 GHz carrier frequency, 499.2 MHz channel bandwidth), or #11 optional channel in high band (same carrier frequency of channel #9 but 1.331 GHz channel bandwidth). Linearity of the proposed mixer is improved utilizing derivative superposition method and source degenerations at the input stage. The proposed mixer has been designed in a 65 nm CMOS technology. Post layout simulations result in 12 dBm IIP3, 16.8 dB minimum noise figure while consuming 2.7 mW from 1.2 V supply voltage.","PeriodicalId":125553,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2013 9th Conference on Ph.D. Research in Microelectronics and Electronics (PRIME)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127311035","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Moreover, due their use in harsh and prone to dust environment, magnetic characteristics of each pole change over a period of time. This gives rise to change in pole pitch reported by the ABS sensors. The target here is to accurately measure pole angles by analyzing the ABS sensor signal. This paper describes two methods to achieve optimum pole angle or offset calculation by Synchronous Averaging and Kalman Filter accompanied by a novel Pole Skipping technique to compensate for the speed variations. The computed pole angles can be used to calculate the speed signal more accurately. Besides that, application of pole offset correction will remove the regular pattern from the speed signal data, which prevails in its spectrum suppressing important information related to tire vibrations.","PeriodicalId":125553,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2013 9th Conference on Ph.D. Research in Microelectronics and Electronics (PRIME)","volume":"99 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134630028","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The current-mode approach is analyzed by applying for first time to our best knowledge the spinning current technique to Hall plate working in current-mode to eliminate offset and 1/f noise. Among different geometries that have been studied and simulated using COMSOL MultiphysicsTM, cross-shaped model displayed the lowest noise and residual offset and the best sensitivity. The COMSOL results determined a behavioral model implemented in Verilog-A for simulations in the Cadence environment. Simulations results achieved in COMSOL and in Cadence environment show the potentiality, thus demonstrating the effectiveness of the approach, for a possible use of the device with remarkable performances.","PeriodicalId":125553,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2013 9th Conference on Ph.D. Research in Microelectronics and Electronics (PRIME)","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133411355","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An experimental cognitive transceiver is proposed based on commercially available components. The complete system aspects of a filterless implementation are discussed. Along with the intermodulation test for LTE specified by the 3GPP, the intermodulation of Tx leakage with the blocker arising in an FDD scenario is also dealt with. It is shown that even with highly linear RF components, the receiver cannot sustain Tx leakage. The blocker performance and the channel filtering requirements for a SAW-less transceiver are also shown along with an AGC algorithm for a steady SNR. With a brief system analysis, the effect of transmitter noise leaking into the Rx band and its impact on the sensitivity are discussed. The experimental setup has the provision to test the impact of full-FDD, half-FDD and TDD modes on the RF performance in a cognitive environment.","PeriodicalId":125553,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 2013 9th Conference on Ph.D. Research in Microelectronics and Electronics (PRIME)","volume":"6 Electro Ther Sect 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-06-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131318352","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
