Since its inception in the last four months, it has been increased ten times every two weeks outside mainland China. In this case, we address this challenging human crisis with a focus on the early discovery of coronavirus asymptomatic patients which would help to reduce the cross-infection of COVID-19 that estimates to attack at least 60% of the world population, according to WHO (2020). This paper aims targets to raise the capacity of the health services authorities and help the community decision-maker to discover early asymptomatic and mild patients infected with COVID-19 by developing and applying intelligent decision-making protocol that would enhance the 'hit rate' of identifying and stratifying such cases. The paper has important implications of both the elimination of the COVID-19 and enhances the cost-effectiveness and the return of the efforts of the other isolation and quarantine measures taken all over the world.","PeriodicalId":124628,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129335736","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of those death occurred among the elderly which proven to be the most high risk vulnerable group both physically and mentally. This paper targets to address the vulnerability of the elderly age group during COVID-19, with a focus on both the immunological and mental health aspects. The analysis of the literature published on the pandemic shows that the policies for social isolation for the elders can be better aligned to compensate for the variety of needs of this elderly group. Holistic risk mitigation, communication model framework is proposed to compensate for the preventive demands of both elderly’s mental and physical health during pandemics, based on the experience of the first wave.","PeriodicalId":124628,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125374791","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Oke-Ogun area of Oyo state, this extract is being used as an alternative therapy in the treatment of hypertension in human subjects. This work was designed to evaluate the Effect of Liquid Extract of Pear Avocado Leaf used in the Traditional Treatment of Hypertension on the Plasma Levels of Aminotransferases, Total Bile Acids, Total and Low Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol. Fifty (50) anicteric newly diagnosed hypertensive patients with an abnormal increase in plasma cholesterol and blood pressure aged 45 and above that have not been treated with any hypertensive medication but have decided to be treated traditionally using avocado pear leaf extract were recruited from the traditional homes in ATISBO, Saki-East and Saki-West Local government areas of Oke-Ogun - the Northern part of Oyo state-Nigeria. Five (5) milliliter of venous blood was obtained from each subjects after an overnight fasting before and after the administration of the liquid extract for the extraction of plasma. Plasma Alanine amino-transferase(ALT), Aspartate amino-transferase (AST), Total Bile Acids(TBA), Low Density Lipoprotein(LDL) and Total Cholesterol were analysed in the samples of the patients biochemically by spectrophotometry including autoanalysis. The result obtained showed a significantly higher mean value of plasma Total and Low Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol in the subjects before the administration of the liquid extract of avocado pear leaf than the values obtained post-administration with p 0.01. The findings of this study revealed a significant alteration in the plasma level of ALT, AST, LDL and Total Cholesterol in the subjects after the administration of the liquid extrac of avocado pear leaft. The evaluation of these biochemical parameters in hypertensive patients undergoing traditional therapy using the extract is therefore recommended.","PeriodicalId":124628,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences","volume":"24 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125992783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study was conducted to determine the factors affecting satisfaction level of patients with food services in a sample of general hospitals in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. A cross sectional study was carried out in four general hospitals including 250 patients. Interview questionnaire was used for measuring satisfaction of the patients with food and food services. Results showed that (78.8%) of patients were satisfied overall with quality of food services in hospitals. Positive correlation was detected between the overall satisfaction level and the different aspects related to food and food services, the first three variables that had the strongest correlation with overall satisfaction were the taste of foods, being served with the favourite food and food appearance. Logistic regression analysis revealed that low monthly income, taste and temperature of food, attitude of staff serving food, and absence of disturbance inside, and outside the room were associated with satisfaction with hospital food and food services (p < 0.05) .Increasing the quality of foods and hospital food services increases the level of overall satisfaction with foods and food services. Ongoing education and communication with patients and dieticians is important in improving satisfaction with foodservice.","PeriodicalId":124628,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126315850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This investigation was conducted to assess, if microhaematuria and proteinuria as measured by reagent strips could estimate intensity of Schistosomahaematobium infection in endemic areas and evaluate their screening performance among children in Benue State, Nigeria. A total of 1,124 urine samp les were collected, screened for microhaematuria and proteinuria using reagent strips (Co mbi 9) and co mpared to filtration technique the gold standard method. A significant correlation was observed between microhaematuria (rho= 0.66, p<0.01), proteinuria (rho = 0.71, p<0.01) and intensity of Schistosomahaematobium eggs. Proteinuria had sensitivity of 95.7% and specificity of 67.7%, while microhaematuria had sensitivity of 64.8% and specificity of 89.6%. The proportion of false positive diagnoses was higher in proteinuria (19.6%) than microhaematuria (6.0%). The find ings suggest that use of urine reagent strips could potentially estimate intensity of Schistosomahaematobium infection and their performance to screen urinary schistosomiasis agreed with previous observations.","PeriodicalId":124628,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121711334","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

(b lack seed or cumin) is an herbaceous plant, used for centuries for the treatment of various ailments, including infectious diseases. This study investigates the in vitro effect of extract of N. sativa against representative of mycolic acid containing actinomycetes notably members of the genera Gordonia, Mycobacterium, Nocardia and Rhodococcus. Methanolic and petroleu m ether ext racts of N. sativa at different concentrations (0.3 mg/ mL, 0.6 mg/ mL, 1.25 mg/ mL, 2.5 mg/ mL and 5 mg/ mL) were used to impregnate filter paper disks. The disks were incorporated onto Diagnostic Sensitivity Test agar, plates inoculated with test strains and incubated aerobically for up to seven days at 37 ℃. Inhibition zones around discs were measured in millimet res. At 0.6 mg/ mL all test strains showed inhibition zones of 1.5 cm except Mycobacterium phlei and R. rhodochrous. Petroleu m ether ext ract was found to be more effective than the methanolic extracts since relat ively h igher concentrations from the latter were needed to achieve similar inhibit ions zones produced by petroleum ether ext racts. It be concluded that extracts of N. sativa is a promising candidate for the in vivo application since it is a natural food additive with no reported harmfu l effect.","PeriodicalId":124628,"journal":{"name":"American Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125984161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
