In particular, it contrasts the typical class hierarchies that the networks found on a machine learning benchmark database. It is proposed that the main difference between the two clusterings are the direct consequence of the existence or absence of an internal feedback mechanism and explicit associative links between a higher-level class and its sub-classes.","PeriodicalId":123427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 1995 Second New Zealand International Two-Stream Conference on Artificial Neural Networks and Expert Systems","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126659096","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper describes the application of these techniques to a well known classification problem, namely the iris species classification problem. The performance of the resulting fuzzy systems exceed that reported for those derived using alternative methods. Preliminary work indicates that the use of genetic algorithms is the more flexible as it allows the simultaneous acquisition of fuzzy set parameters and fuzzy rules.","PeriodicalId":123427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 1995 Second New Zealand International Two-Stream Conference on Artificial Neural Networks and Expert Systems","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133892860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes a method for the amalgamation of these to synthesise a fuzzy model of the system. The artisan knowledge will likely be qualitative, of low resolution and accuracy whilst the data sample noisy and incomplete (not comprehensively covering the whole input space). A model derived from the union of these is potentially superior to one developed from either alone.","PeriodicalId":123427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 1995 Second New Zealand International Two-Stream Conference on Artificial Neural Networks and Expert Systems","volume":"314 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134507950","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Genetic operations are implemented to determine almost all of the parameters in the fuzzy controllers, such as the input variables, membership functions and fuzzy control rules. These parameters are encoded into the chromosomes. Setting the performance index is the only procedure necessary for the designer of the controllers. A GA with a new local improvement mechanism, which is based on genetic recombination in bacterial genetics, is applied to our method. Comparisons with other conventional GAs are also discussed. To show the effectiveness of our approach, fuzzy controllers for a semi-active suspension system are generated.","PeriodicalId":123427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 1995 Second New Zealand International Two-Stream Conference on Artificial Neural Networks and Expert Systems","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134551211","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The task structure framework permits a hierarchical decomposition of tasks into subtasks common in the domain of supervisory process control. Qualitative task descriptions based on fuzzy sets grant the integration of the task structure framework while preserving the inherent flexibility of the blackboard control architecture. Fuzzy sets are further qualified to improve the basic control cycle. Linguistic variables allow the specification of control knowledge in a more natural way according to human knowledge.","PeriodicalId":123427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 1995 Second New Zealand International Two-Stream Conference on Artificial Neural Networks and Expert Systems","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124449948","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An improved learning algorithm for the fuzzy ARTMAP neural network 一种改进的模糊ARTMAP神经网络学习算法

Bartfai","doi":"10.1109/ANNES.1995.499433","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ANNES.1995.499433","url":null,"abstract":"This article introduces two improvements to the learning algorithm of the fuzzy ARTMAP neural network. One of them is concerned with the timing according to which input patterns and their corresponding target output are processed by the network. The other one is the explicit overwriting of an existing association between an input and an output category in case the input is matched perfectly and yet the network's prediction is wrong. Both of these modifications are needed to reduce the occurrence of the \"match tracking anomaly\" (or MTA) during learning, and eliminate MTA altogether in a trained network. As a result, training time is also reduced, which is demonstrated through the performance of the network on a machine learning benchmark database.","PeriodicalId":123427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 1995 Second New Zealand International Two-Stream Conference on Artificial Neural Networks and Expert Systems","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123788697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present paper proposes a method for dynamic generation of a minimal world model based on these redundancies. The technique is an extention of the qualitative topologic world modelling methods. As a central aspect the reliability regarding error-tolerance and stability is emphasized. The proposed technique demands very low constraints on the kind and quality of the employed sensors as well as for the kinematic precision of the utilized mobile platform. Hard real-time constraints can be handled due to the low computational complexity. The principal discussions are supported by real-world experiments with the mobile robot \"ALICE\".","PeriodicalId":123427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 1995 Second New Zealand International Two-Stream Conference on Artificial Neural Networks and Expert Systems","volume":"166 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122555354","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed fuzzy reasoning method refers to interpolation by man. We suppose that humans consider two directions while interpolating. A direction of fluctuation at a given point is one, and a direction toward neighboring data is the other. Both directions are reflected in the consequent part of the fuzzy rule. It is not necessary to give them as knowledge, these are only decided as given data pairs. Even if new data is given, if is not necessary to increase a rule. The reasoning result can correspond to new data without increasing a rule. The effectiveness of the present method as verified by applications to practical data and by computer simulations.","PeriodicalId":123427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 1995 Second New Zealand International Two-Stream Conference on Artificial Neural Networks and Expert Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128697466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It consists of two fuzzy rule bases adjusting the gain K and the time constant T respectively. A special \"soft switching\" procedure called fuzzy switch has been introduced. It calculates at each time instant the activation degree of tuning needed for both fuzzy reasoning procedures. A test plant example has been used for extensive evaluation of the practical applicability of the proposed fuzzy reasoning method.","PeriodicalId":123427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 1995 Second New Zealand International Two-Stream Conference on Artificial Neural Networks and Expert Systems","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127509390","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Integrating vision processing and natural language processing with a clinical application 结合视觉处理和自然语言处理与临床应用

{"title":"Integrating vision processing and natural language processing with a clinical application","authors":"Peter Hall, P. Kevitt","doi":"10.1109/ANNES.1995.499511","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ANNES.1995.499511","url":null,"abstract":"It is an interesting observation that humans are able to combine information from ostensibly disparate sources in order to better comprehend the world around them. For example, the sense information from the eyes and the ears are combined at every instant-tasks such as road crossing would be far more difficult without such integration. Such combinations are nonlinear in nature, so examining each sense in isolation will not shed light on how they combine within the cognitive frame. We are interested in the way humans combine their visual sense with natural language. This is an important area that appears to be little researched to date, despite the large amount of literature in both vision processing and natural language processing. In response to the nonlinear nature of the combination we proceed by synthesising the phenomenon rather than analysing it. To advance our work we focus upon a particular application that not only makes such a combination feasible but has a practical use in the field of medicine.","PeriodicalId":123427,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 1995 Second New Zealand International Two-Stream Conference on Artificial Neural Networks and Expert Systems","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1995-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114786576","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
