This method extracts representative patterns from the training set using an instance averaging technique. First, the proposed algorithm partitions the pattern space into a fixed number of hyperrectangles, and then it averages patterns in each hyperrectangle to extract a representative. This algorithm then uses the mutual information between the features and class information as its weights to improve the classification accuracy. We present the FPA algorithm and verify its performance. We compare its classification accuracy, storage requirement and actual classification time with k-NN and the EACH system on 7 carefully chosen data sets from the UCI Machine Learning Database repository.","PeriodicalId":121142,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE. The reduction of switch size and the fault tolerance are important issues in designing an ATM switch for reliable satellite communications. In this paper we propose a new ATM switch architecture by slightly changing Wang's modified MOBAS. The proposed scheme increases the supportable data traffic load which is limited to satisfy the pre-determined QoSs of voice users such as the required BER, by allocating the transmission power of the data users to be less than that of voice users. Through a numerical example, this scheme shows the enhancement of system capacity. This paper proposes a new hybrid self-healing mechanism based on the VP priorities over the ATM networks. Backup VPs are assigned to restore the failures on the restoration domains such as the OAM segment or end-to-end VPC. Semi-dynamic VP restoration algorithms are used for the VPs which do not have backup VPs or whose backup VPs fail. Multipoint-to-multipoint communication requires the creation of a multicast tree. Though ATM networks are capable of providing guaranteed QoS, the support for efficient group communication (multicasting) is necessary. Unfortunately as the ATM networks belong to the class of non-broadcast multiple access (NBMA) achieving such a simultaneous transmission in terms of multicasting is very difficult. This paper addresses the issue of multicast connection establishment and proposes a new, 'dynamic programmable shared virtual path assignment' algorithm for the creation of a multicast tree. The proposed algorithm realizes each branch of a multicast tree by a segmented VP and reserves the required resources for each VP. Further, the nodes in which the multicast tree edges branch out are realized as virtual path junctions (VPJs). At VPJs two streams (VPs) of a group from two input links are merged into one input stream (VP) for an output link by performing copy or split and merge operations. The output of the merge operation at each VPJ is a function of the programmable filter installed at each VPJ. On one Xilinx XC4062XL chip, we designed a 578-tap adaptive filter, which operates at a sampling rate of up to 29.4 kHz. We discuss the word-length requirement of various modules in the design. An interesting finding which has been ignored in most earlier publications is that although a relatively long word-length should be used for the filter tap-weights to prevent the stalling phenomenon, the actual tap-weight bits which should be used to calculate the filter output can be many bits less. The proposed design is cascadable, meaning that by cascading a few chips, adaptive filters with lengths at a multiple of 578 could be implemented.","PeriodicalId":121142,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE. Shamir's (1979) shared secret scheme is adapted to operate over an extension field GF(p)[x]/x/sup m/-/spl omega/ where p is an odd prime p. Both multiplication and multiplicative inverse in such a field can be efficiently computed on 8-bit microcontrollers with appropriate choice of p and exploiting the built-in byte-multiply instruction. In applications with fixed p, m, and /spl omega/ further acceleration can be achieved via a small set of pre-computed values. Pre-computation also eliminates the necessity for division at the sub-field level. A brief discussion on efficiency and memory trade-off is provided.
