The proposed technique employs a single FNN with three hidden layers for both subsampling and interpolation, providing the advantages of high speed, parallel processing capability, and good image reproduction quality. An adaptive antenna array can cancel out an undesired signal using beamforming. However, if there interfering signals from undesired users with the same arrival angle as that of a desired user, an adaptive antenna array cannot suppress it. This paper proposes an adaptive antenna array including a multiuser detection unit to cancel out remaining interference at the same beamforming region (arrival angle). The performance analysis of the proposed system is developed for frequency selective Rayleigh fading channels. Simulation results show that the proposed system provides a significantly enhanced performance.","PeriodicalId":121142,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE. IEEE Region 10 Conference. TENCON 99. This scheme is implemented basically based on the GSC (generalized sidelobe canceller) algorithm which is one of the famous adaptive interference suppression schemes. The implementation of GSC requires complex computations due to the adaptive filtering. Therefore, we propose an efficient GSC employing the split RLS algorithm. However, this method leads to an estimation error caused by the correlation between the split vectors. In order to reduce the estimation error the proposed GSC is combined with a Walsh blocking matrix instead of a bi-diagonal one. In conclusion, the SINR of the proposed method is as close as possible to the SINR obtained by full tap solution as its complexity decreases. When the system complexity decreases nearly half the SINR of the proposed method becomes 1 dB worse than that of the full tap solution.","PeriodicalId":121142,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE. The stable pole of an optimal servo system is specified to the pole placement of a closed-loop in the adaptive control system and the stability index is introduced for the evaluation of the relative stability. The appropriate characteristics can be derived, by adjusting automatically the weight of a performance index in optimal control by means of the fuzzy inference on the basis of a stability index. Numerical simulation is used to prove that the proposed method provides sufficient performance regarding both tuning and control.","PeriodicalId":121142,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE. The formant postfilter is generally composed of the conventional ARMA filter with the 1-order tilt compensation filter. We propose a new method to improve speech quality using multi-order tilt compensation filter instead of the 1-order tilt compensation filter. This algorithm is applied to G.723.1 for Internet phone or videoconferencing. Consequently, spectrum distortion is improved about 3.22% and speech quality is improved about 0.04 of MOS score maximally.","PeriodicalId":121142,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE. Today, many services are provided through Web browsers connected to the Internet. As we can see easily, it is difficult to execute an application program developed for the conventional terminals on the Internet because the I/O scheme used for terminals is different from the I/O scheme used for Web browsers. We describe the WEBIO library that extends the concepts of conventional terminal I/O to Web I/O. By using the library, we can easily modify application programs developed for terminals to be executed through Web browsers and we can easily build application programs that are executed through Web browsers. The library consists of a CGI program and a set of Web I/O routines for programming languages, namely C and Prolog.","PeriodicalId":121142,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE. In a conventional physical examination radiologists check the chest image projected on a viewing box by a magnifying glass and determine what the disease is. The detection of disease on X-ray fluoroscopy images is tedious and time-consuming for humans. This lowers the efficiency for chest diagnosis as many mistakes by the radiologist are caused because of the need to detect micropathology from a film of small size. So, the authors propose a method to quickly find out what the object on a chest radiograph is. This method comprises the functions of image sampling, median filter, neural network image equalizer and neural network pattern recognition. The authors confirm that this method has improved the problems of conventional methods.","PeriodicalId":121142,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE. IEEE Region 10 Conference. TENCON 99. The head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) of a dummy-head are approximated by third to seventh-order IIR filters. The binaural signal sounds using the approximated HRTFs are reproduced via two loudspeakers, and sound image localization on the horizontal plane is realized. Experiments on the direction and the elevation angle of the sound image are carried out with 3 subjects. The results of the experiments show that the localization on the horizontal plane using the approximated HRTFs is of the same accuracy as the case of FIR filters that simulate the HRTFs.","PeriodicalId":121142,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE. This paper proposes the new field-based scan conversion that consists of spatial interpolation based on spatial correlation and edge enhancement. First, edge-preserving directional interpolation is performed along the vertical direction to double the field rate. Second, edge enhancement based on unsharp masking is used to increase the contrast which is sensitive to the HVS (human visual system). The proposed method is very simple and hardware complexity for realizing the algorithm is very low.","PeriodicalId":121142,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE. IEEE Region 10 Conference.
