From this information, the researchers could find that the treatment was successful or not. To collect the data, the researchers used instruments such as test and observation checklist. In the first cycle the students' speaking ability has not increased. This is caused by several things, such as (1) Unclear explanation of the material, (2) in group division, students choose groups independently so that students who are smart and those who are less intelligent cannot be divided equally. (3) The teacher explaining the material is less relaxed. (4) Instructions are not clear. (5) The teacher determining the topic by his-self. In the second cycle students' speaking ability increased from 85% of students got score 50 to 69 and 15% got scores in the range of 70 to 84 increase into 91% students succeeded in achieving the criteria for the value that must be achieved. The purpose of this study is to find out whether the use of Role Play to improve the students’ speaking ability.The object of this study was the X Culinary 1 Class of SMKN 8 Surabaya. Total of 36 students from the X Culinary 1 Class of SMKN 8 Surabaya were involved in this study. I used questionnaires to collect the necessary data. The data were in the form of questions, from which the data analysis was done. In conducting the research, I observed the students’ activities in the role play.From the observation, it was found out that with the use of role play students were more encouraged to speak English, they more often spoke in English, were able to give feedback to other speakers, and used their vocabulary more in order to make their speaking alive.The result of the analysis showed that students spoke more bravely and fluently than before while using role play. I suggested some ways to teach speaking using role play; the teacher should recognize the students’ experience to make a more simple activity because if they have ever had such a situation they could do the activity easily. The teacher should guide the students to do role play and how to do it well. The teacher should make the students understand the situation in details to give good performance, and if the treatment has done in a long time, it will get a better result.","PeriodicalId":120959,"journal":{"name":"JOEEL: Journal of English Education and Literature","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134462011","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, the quantitative descriptive approach was used. A sample of 36 participants from Piksi Input Serang's fifth semester accounting diploma class served as the basis sample for this study. The study instrument was based on an instrument cited from Hamouda (2013). There are a total of 27 inquiries spread across 7 sections in the questionnaire. The majority of participants, as measured by both mean and dominating factor, identify problems with the physical environment, such as distractions from background noise and distorted audio from a low-quality CD player, as significant barriers to their studies. It's safe to say that the participants have it toughest when it comes to the listening test's actual material and environment.","PeriodicalId":120959,"journal":{"name":"JOEEL: Journal of English Education and Literature","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123090731","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
