Firstly, the simulations of the braking energy accumulation process were carried, followed by simulations of the process of reuse of previously stored energy. Losses in the accumulation process and losses during reuse were deducted from the full braking energy. Simulations of both new and used energy storage systems were carried to study also the effects of aging.","PeriodicalId":117212,"journal":{"name":"2019 20th International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126408873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The biggest sources of stray currents are direct current traction systems such as railways and city lines using rails as a return conductor. In many cases, the return current does not flow back to traction converter substation by rails but uses other paths such as metallic devices stored under the ground (pipelines, metal-coat cables). This results in stray currents formation, which is the main cause of electrochemical corrosion. Electrochemical corrosion may cause serious damage of storage devices situated especially in proximity of direct current electrical traction systems. This paper deals with the issue of stray currents, describes the formation, spreading and the method of stray current measurement. The final part of this paper analyzes the results from real measurement of stray currents originating mostly from city tram lines. Measured data indicates a high activity of stray currents which can lead to damaging of metallic devices stored under the ground.","PeriodicalId":117212,"journal":{"name":"2019 20th International Scientific Conference on Electric Power Engineering (EPE)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124277600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
