However, there are few studies on hydrogen blending in coal-fired boilers. In order to reduce CO2 emissions from coal-fired boilers, this study investigates the co-combustion of pulverized coal and hydrogen in a swirl pulverized coal burner by numerical simulation. Itis shown that the burnout rate of fuel is 5.08% higher than that of non-hydrogen blended coal when the percentage of hydrogen blended is 5%. The water vapor generated by hydrogen blending not only leads to the formation of a low-temperature zone near the burner outlet; it also results in a prolonged burnout time of moist pulverized coal and a high-temperature zone near the furnace outlet. The greater the amount of hydrogen for blending, the higher the water produced. When 1–3% hydrogen is blended, the water vapor in the furnace reacts with the carbon to produce a large amount of CO. When the amount of hydrogen added to the furnace is more than 3%, the water content in the furnace rises, resulting in a lower temperature at the burner outlet and a decrease in the amount of CO produced. When 1–3% hydrogen is blended, the CO2 emission rises. The CO2 emission decreased by 1.49% for 5% hydrogen blending compared to non-hydrogen blending and by 3.22% compared to 1% hydrogen blending.","PeriodicalId":11557,"journal":{"name":"Energies","volume":"105 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.2,"publicationDate":"2024-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139387960","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First of all, considering the integrated demand response of price-based electricity and heating, an economic scheduling model of the IES integrated demand response based on chance-constrained programming is proposed to minimize the integrated operating cost in an uncertain environment. Through the comprehensive demand response model, the impact of the demand response ratio on the operating economy of the IES is explored. Afterward, the carbon emission index is introduced, and gas turbines and energy storage devices are used as the actuators of multi-energy coupling to further explore the potential interactions between the coupling capacities of various heterogeneous energy sources and carbon emissions. Finally, the original uncertainty model is transformed into a mixed-integer linear-programming model and solved using sequence operation theory and the linearization method. The results show that the operating economy of the IES is improved by coordinating the uncertainty of the integrated demand response and renewable energy. In addition, the tradeoff between the working economy and reliability of the EIS can be balanced via the setting of an appropriate confidence level for the opportunity constraints.","PeriodicalId":11557,"journal":{"name":"Energies","volume":"34 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.2,"publicationDate":"2024-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139388357","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It establishes a model for calculating the rate of gas intrusion that considers various factors, including formation pore permeability, bottomhole pressure difference, rheology of the drilling fluid, and surface tension. Experiments were conducted to investigate the mechanism of gas intrusion under shut-in conditions, and the experimental results were employed to validate the reliability of the proposed method for calculating the gas intrusion rate. Furthermore, this research explores the transportation rates of single bubbles and bubble clusters in drilling fluid under shut-in conditions. Additionally, empirical expressions were derived for the drag coefficient for single bubbles and bubble clusters in the wellbore. These expressions can be used to calculate gas transportation rates for various equivalent radii of single bubbles and bubble clusters. The initial bubble size of intrusive gas, the transportation speed of intrusive gas in the wellbore, the rate of gas intrusion, and variations in the wellbore pressure after gas intrusion were analyzed. Additionally, a method was developed to calculate the rising velocity of bubble clusters in water based on experimental results. The study reveals that the average bubble size in the bubble cluster is significantly smaller than the size of single bubbles generated from the orifice. When the viscosity of the drilling fluid is low, the transportation velocity of the bubble cluster exhibits a positive correlation with the average bubble diameter. When the average bubble diameter exceeds 1 mm, the bubble velocity no longer varies with changes in the bubble-cluster diameter. The research results provide theoretical support for wellbore pressure prediction and pressure control under shutdown conditions.","PeriodicalId":11557,"journal":{"name":"Energies","volume":"127 21","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.2,"publicationDate":"2024-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139387618","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A distinctive feature of this study is the direct connection of a Li-Ion battery to the DC link, which eliminates the need for an additional charging circuit, which is a departure from conventional approaches. Furthermore, the combination of an MPPT controller and a closed-loop fuzzy controller with a current control mode ensures accurate switching signal generation for all three phases. The meticulously tuned system exhibits a remarkably low ripple content in the output voltage, surpassing calculated values, and demonstrates a superior dynamic performance. The investigation extends to a comprehensive analysis of losses, encompassing inductor copper loss and semiconductor conduction loss. In all scenarios, the converter exhibits an efficiency exceeding 93%, highlighting its robust performance as an effective solution for PV systems.","PeriodicalId":11557,"journal":{"name":"Energies","volume":"19 16","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.2,"publicationDate":"2024-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139388952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) can be used to extract the time series features of the original wind power data, the number of its modes will increase with the complexity of the original data. Too many modes are unnecessary, making the prediction model constructed based on the sub-models too complex. An entropy ensemble empirical mode decomposition (eEEMD) method based on information entropy is proposed in this work. Fewer components with significant feature differences are obtained using information entropy to reconstruct sub-sequences. The long short-term memory (LSTM) model is suitable for prediction after the decomposition of time series. All the modes are trained with the same deep learning framework LSTM. In view of the different features of each mode, models should be trained differentially for each mode; a rule is designed to determine the training error of each mode according to its average value. In this way, the model prediction accuracy and efficiency can make better tradeoffs. The predictions of different modes are reconstructed to obtain the final prediction results. The test results from a wind power unit show that the proposed eEEMD-LSTM has higher prediction accuracy compared with single LSTM and EEMD-LSTM, and the results based on Bayesian ridge regression (BR) and support vector regression (SVR) are the same; eEEMD-LSTM exhibits better performance.","PeriodicalId":11557,"journal":{"name":"Energies","volume":"142 21","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.2,"publicationDate":"2024-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139387451","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most automakers are adding electric models to their lineups to prepare for the new electric future. From the analysis of the automotive market, it is evident that there is a growing interest in such vehicles. They are expected to account for half the models released after 2030. Electric-drive vehicles include battery-electric vehicles. As indicated in the research literature and emphasized by experts, electric vehicles (EVs) are supposed to be an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional vehicles. The rising number and variety of EVs contribute to a better understanding of their performance. With more EVs on the market, there are problems to be solved and challenges to overcome. This article is the first part of a two-article series reviewing the strengths and weaknesses of EVs. The article analyzes the environmental effects of EVs at each stage of their life cycle, compares large- and small-scale recycling methods, and explores the potential applications of second-life batteries. This article is an attempt to find out how environmentally friendly EVs are.","PeriodicalId":11557,"journal":{"name":"Energies","volume":"79 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.2,"publicationDate":"2024-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139388188","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many premature deaths attributed to exposure to indoor air pollutants result from diseases exacerbated by poor indoor air. CO2, one of these pollutants, is the most prevalent and often serves as an indicator of IAQ. Indoor CO2 concentrations can be significantly higher than outdoor levels due to human respiration and activity. The primary objective of this research was to numerically investigate the indoor relative humidity and CO2 in cob buildings through the CobBauge prototype, particularly during the first months following the building delivery. Both in situ experimental studies and numerical predictions using an artificial neural network were conducted for this purpose. The study presented the use of a piecewise autoregressive exogenous model (PWARX) for indoor relative humidity (RH) and CO2 content in a building constructed with a double walling system consisting of cob and light earth. The model was validated using experimental data collected over a 27-day period, during which indoor RH and CO2 levels were measured alongside external conditions. The results indicate that the PWARX model accurately predicted RH levels and categorized them into distinct states based on moisture content within materials and external conditions. However, while the model accurately predicted indoor CO2 levels, it faced challenges in finely classifying them due to the complex interplay of factors influencing CO2 levels in indoor environments.","PeriodicalId":11557,"journal":{"name":"Energies","volume":"22 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.2,"publicationDate":"2024-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139389185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A cement sheath at a relatively shallow depth undergoes the most significant stress change due to the high differential temperature between the geothermal gradient and the production fluid’s temperature. Understanding the impact of cyclical thermal stresses on cement is critical for assessing the barrier integrity at a shallow depth that serves as aquifer protection. A novel large-scale setup simulating a 1.5 m-long casing-cement-casing well section was built to study the changes in cement’s sealing performance of low-enthalpy geothermal wells during production. Using this setup, a cement sheath can be cured similarly to the in situ conditions, and the annular temperature can be cycled under realistic operating conditions. The change in flow rate through the cement sheath before and after cycling is quantified through leak tests. UV dye is injected at the end of the experiment to identify the location and type of damage in the cement sheath. A hydromechanically coupled finite element model was used to estimate the stress evolution in cement during the tests. The model incorporated the impact of cement hydration and strength development during curing. The numerical results were used as a guide to ensure the test design closely mimicked in situ conditions. The results show the presence of a small microannulus immediately after curing due to hydration shrinkage. Thermal cycles reduced the permeability of the microannulus. The size of the micro-annulus was observed to be sensitive to the backpressure applied to the cement sheath, indicating the need for pressure to maintain an open microannulus. Thirty-nine thermal cycles between 80 and 20 °C did not change the permeability of the cement sheath significantly. Tensile cracks in the cement sheath were not continuous and may not be a significant pathway. The new setup allows for measuring cement’s effectiveness in withstanding in situ stress conditions when exposed to thermal cycles such as geothermal and CCS wells.","PeriodicalId":11557,"journal":{"name":"Energies","volume":"112 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.2,"publicationDate":"2024-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139390826","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An innovative DC-DC converter is suggested in this article. Designing a new, high-gain DC-DC converter scheme known as a double-switch SEPIC-buck converter (DSSB) is possible after making some adjustments to the SEPIC converter that is currently known in accordance with accepted techniques. The output voltage magnitude of the proposed converter is either larger than or less than the input voltage magnitude and is the same sign as the input voltage. According to the theoretical and analytical study that has been supported by the real-world application, high voltage gain, low switching stress, and low inductor current ripple are the main characteristics of the proposed DSSB converter. The related small-signal model was also used to build the closed-loop system. The frequency response and output voltage behavior were investigated when the input source voltage abruptly changed as a step function. Based on the comparison study with other DC-DC converters, the DSSB converter outperforms currently known DC-DC converters such as Buck, SEPIC, Boost, Buck-Boost, and other SEPIC converter topologies in terms of voltage gain, harmonic content, normalized current ripple, dynamic performance, and efficiency. Additionally, the frequency response and control of the proposed converter using an alternate current (AC), small-signal, analysis-based, current-mode control technique are both provided. Thus, the DSSB is regarded as safe in overcurrent situations because of the small-signal analysis with the current control strategy. As a result of the verification of the proposed control technique, the resistance to changes in the DSSB parameters, improved dynamic performance, and higher control accuracy are further advantages of current-mode control based on small-signal analysis over other control approaches (PI controllers). Finally, the experimental and simulation results from Simplorer 7 and MATLAB/Simulink are used to validate the findings of the analytical and comparative investigation.","PeriodicalId":11557,"journal":{"name":"Energies","volume":"111 40","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.2,"publicationDate":"2024-01-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139391581","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At the same time, however, the system inertia decreases as synchronous generators decrease; this is crucial for maintaining the stability of the power system. Virtual inertia control (VIC) can regulate the output of an inverter-based resource (IBR) by increasing the inertia. For a wind turbine generator (WTG), output control factors such as pitch angle control and maximum power point tracking (MPPT) significantly affect the performance of the VIC. This paper theoretically clarifies that the pitch angle control contributes to improvements in the performance of the VIC and helps avoid a loss of operation of the WTG in frequency drop events by analyzing the movement of the operational point of the WTG based on the physical characteristic of the WTG and control characteristics of the pitch angle control and MPPT; an electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation, performed to verify the analysis, is also presented.","PeriodicalId":11557,"journal":{"name":"Energies","volume":"56 41","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":3.2,"publicationDate":"2024-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139126828","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
